The foundation of Deadly Premonition, the stuff that matters, is still absolutely perfect as far as I am concerned. It is true, of course, that this perfection has been scarred somewhat by the faults found in The Director's Cut, and there's no denying that longtime fans may not be getting what they hoped for in this package. To newcomers or the severely dedicated, however, this is still a bloody great time, and remains one of those games that truly, desperately, must be experienced to be believed.

Anime News Network (May 29, 2013)
But it's bogged down by its crap shooting and schizophrenic writing, and it spends more time worshiping Twin Peaks than it does building on it. For all its effort at simulacra, Deadly Premonition doesn't even come close to the contrast between Twin Peaks's humorous moments and its terrifying ones. That lack of contrast saps the energy out of a second playthrough, though the script throws more than enough absurdity and folderol at the screen for a first one. In that way, Deadly Premonition is much better at mimicking 80s horror movies than it is Twin Peaks, and maybe its greatest achievement is that it is exactly the quality of some of the shlocky B-movies that inspired it.

Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut is basically the same game as the first, but with upscaled graphics, a few new cut scenes and massively improved controls, making the game far more accessible to the average person. The game’s story is still as brilliant, surreal, and bizarre as ever, and while the game won’t appeal to everyone, those who miss the titles like Clock Tower, Hellnight, Shadow Hearts and Enemy Zero will love this, while other gamers will be left shaking their head at the sheer amount of adoration this title gets.
