Avalanche Software has broken the movie-game stigma for me by releasing the awesome Toy Story 3. Does that mean Disney's upcoming Tron: Evolution is destined for greatness? Not necessarily -- but it tells me Disney is heading in the right direction in capturing the magic from their feature films and translating it to the home videogame console.

This game is one of the best movie tie-in games I have played to date and I am confident in saying it will be hard to compete against in the future. Toy Box mode really made Toy Story 3: The Game top notch and without it this title would have been another cash grab to get kids to buy movie games. Not only did I enjoy Toy Story 3: The Game, my four year old son gives his two thumbs up of approval as well.
GameFocus (Jul 13, 2010)
Toy Story 3 isn’t the best game out there and is far from being flawless. However, in the realm of movie licensed titles and family games in general, this one deserves the opening of your wallet. I’ve actually started wondering if the Toy Box mode wouldn’t push Disney Interactive to do an open world Toy Story game. There’s enough content to make it happen. In the meantime, give Toy Story 3 a chance. Your kids will love you for it, provided they can get you away from it long enough for them to play it.
Extreme Gamer (Jun 25, 2010)
As cliché as it sounds, 'Avalanche Games' has gone above-and-beyond what is expected out a “kids game.” Toy Story 3 is near perfect, delivering an opened ended, action packed game that can be enjoyed for hours on end. It doesn’t hurt that Toy Story 3 also looks spectacular and plays just as good. I could easy ramble on for hours about how great this game is, so instead of being any more redundant, the verdict is simple. Have kids? Then pick up this game. Simply outstanding.
Toy Story 3 is a marvelous achievement in the world of licensed family games. I found myself more addicted to it than some of the more mainstream titles released lately. It appeals to anyone who enjoys solid gameplay, and especially those that have a love for Pixar's trilogy. If you want to go to infinity and beyond then look no further as Avalanche Software has replicated the Toy Story experience better than anyone before it. This is one licensed game I am proud to have in my collection.

It very easily could be the best game for youngsters I've ever played, and with my nephew I've played a decent number (including that horrendous Teletubbies game back on the PSOne *shudder*). Even I felt drawn in for a good time, mostly throwing around townspeople and the occasional robber as I ran around the Toy Box. It's a faithful reworking of a movie in playable form. It's good to be a toy.
GamingExcellence (Jul 10, 2010)
Toy Story 3 isn't perfect, with some loose controls and a dull plotline to follow, seemingly more for the convention of having a plot in these games than anything else. The Toy Box mode adds a whole lot to the game, however, propelling it far beyond what a typical tie-in game offers. That said, on its own merits, the game is still pretty good, and perfect for any fans of the series. Being able to run around and just do what they want at their own pace really makes the game great for a younger crowd. It's fun, got a ton of content, and really redefines what a movie tie-in game can be.
Middle East Gamers (MEgamers) (Jul 19, 2010)
Nothing too complicated here, Toy Story 3 is actually a perfect complement to the movie in theaters right now. It might not match the level of excitement or creativity found in the movie it self, but the fact that the developers did use everything they had on hand and made sure the game is more Toy Story then anything else, is good enough for us. Older gamers might find the game too simple to warrant a purchase or to be seen playing in public. I used the excuse of teaching my nephew how to play videogames, come up with your own excuses people. Quick!
PlayStation Official Magazine - UK (Aug, 2010)
With the film not out as we go to press, it's hard to know how true the game is to the continuing story - but it's got the feel of the franchise sorted, right down to its tiny CGI toes, the looks, most of the voices, the tiny aliens that make me go "SQUEEEEE" every time I see them. There's probably not as much here for us proper grown-ups as there is in Lego Harry Potter, but with the summer drought coming there are worse ways to rack up the trophies. And parents, look at it this way - between this and the equally excellent Potter, you might even be able to avoid that desperate trip to the Cumberland Pencil Museum come August.

The game's not free of other technical flaws, with twitchy car controls and some poor pacing that lets you unlock too much too quickly. The latter is a pretty good problem to have though, in what is a breakthrough effort that will make any subsequent low effort tie-in even less excusable.
Spazio Games (Jul 16, 2010)
Eurogamer.net (UK) (Jul 14, 2010)
Toy Story 3 is an awkward and uneven package at first glance, and the perfunctory and annoying movie levels sour the sweetness of Woody's Roundup, but not enough to overwhelm the game's easy charm. With those missteps cast aside, Toy Story 3 is a rare treat that appreciates the fine line between play and playing, and hints at a future where movie tie-ins could actually be something to look forward to.
PSX Extreme (Jul 08, 2010)
The game isn’t perfect and there are noticeable flaws concerning the control, technical aspects, and the camera (occasionally), but none of these flaws are serious enough to significantly hinder your enjoyment. I sometimes thought the challenge level might be a touch high for the intended audience but it’s a bad idea to underestimate the ability of younger gamers nowadays. The bottom line is that if you’re a fan of the movies, or you know someone who is, you probably wouldn’t regret a Toy Story 3 purchase. You can spend plenty of time doing a variety of things, and Avalanche does a good job of capturing the colorful hilarity of the film series. It feels like “Toy Story” and that’s really all we require.
PlayStation Lifestyle (Jul 09, 2010)
As the Toy Story series comes to a close, the series finally receives the video game treatment it deserves. Avalanche Software took it upon themselves to make one of the best games, if not the best game based off a CGI animated film and it shows clearly. Even though the Story mode can be a bit too difficult at times, the Toy Box mode helps the game rise above the rest. Gamers and fans of the series of any age should take the time to enjoy Toy Story 3 the video game.

And that's about it! Got a kid who's into Toy Story? There's a lot here for them to sink their teeth into, and thankfully it's not all bad. There are definitely some rough spots, and it's a shame about the story mode, but overall this is one of the better movie games around. I know, I know, that's not saying a lot, but I really do mean it as a compliment.
IGN (Jun 23, 2010)
Toy Story 3 is an example of how to do a license right. With great cooperative play, a short, fun story mode, and an inventive new Toy Box mode, this is one game that's easy to recommend to anyone who games with family. Older players might be occasionally bored by how simple the game's quests can be, but in general TS3 manages to be most everything your kids (or your own inner kid) wanted out of a Toy Story game.
PlayStation Universe (Jun 23, 2010)
Toy Story 3 is a surprisingly enjoyable experience for gamers of all ages. You may just revisit your lost youth for a few hours in the story mode, and then go have some fun as an adult in the Toy Box.
PSFocus (Jul 16, 2010)
Worth Playing (Jul 02, 2010)
Toy Story 3: The Video Game is a very interesting title. On one hand, the Story mode tries its best to deviate from the movie for a bit, and while it works, it barely raises the game beyond a decent rating. On the other hand, the open-world nature of the Toy Box feels so refreshing and fun that one wishes it were the entire focus of the game. Thankfully, every other technological aspect of the game, from the controls to the graphics and sound, work well enough so that the entire experience is enjoyable. Fans of the movie series will have lots of fun with this one, as will younger fans who are in need of a new platforming game. The older set should stick with the Toy Box mode; you'll be surprised at how much time you'll spend with the game.
Gamer Limit (Jul 27, 2010)
Nevertheless, Toy Story 3 stands as one of the better movie incarnations. It shows genuine innovation at times, and yet other times it feels like a run of the mill platformer coated in Pixar’s flowery veneer.
GameSpot (Jun 15, 2010)
Toy Story 3 may not be able to reach the lofty heights of Pixar's movies, but it is a fun game for youngsters who want to play around in this colorful world. The variety of activities ensures there is something new to see in every level, and though none of the missions are deep, they do offer plenty of simple fun. Control issues lead to a number of unavoidable deaths, but the forgiving checkpoint ensures that you won't have to backtrack much if you end up in a bottomless pit. Toy Story 3 has a lot of content and provides a good time for players eager to spend a few more hours with Woody and Buzz.
Eurogamer.pt (Jul 07, 2010)
PAL Gaming Network (PALGN) (Jul 19, 2010)
In conclusion, Toy Story 3: The Video Game is rough around the edges, has small amounts of fraying and some of the stuffing has come out. However, it still has that Toy Story charm and is quite a fun game. Despite moments of frustration you will find yourself having fun as you play through the story and the excellent Toy Box modes.
Vandal Online (Jul 14, 2010)
The Video Game Critic (Jan 23, 2011)
This is an uneven effort - the kind of game that gets you excited at the outset but fails to hold your attention for long.
