Is it possible to save your sister, Bethany, from death? Leave her at home or take Anders along?

If you play a non-mage character then your brother dies instead. It's fixed according to your class.

Wait, but brother dies by the hand of ogre in prologue. Do you mean female protagonist?

I see now which part of the game your talking about. Leave her home or take Anders along with her to the Roads both help her to save her life.
