The Expendables 2 ranks on the lower tier for the top-down twin-stick shooter genre. If you have 3 buddies who love twin-stick shooters, by all means pick this game up. When everything around you is exploding and there are 50 guys on screen trying to kill you the Expendables is a lot of fun to play. Unfortunately for every one thing this game does right, it does 2 things completely wrong. Only serious fans of the source material and the genre need apply. For everyone else, skip the Expendables 2 video game.
Worth Playing (Sep 03, 2012)
The Expendables 2 should have been better, especially since the game just needed to get a good handle on shooting. Instead, a bevy of technical snafus and odd design decisions drag down the experience and uphold the belief that licensed games are rarely more than mediocre. The game isn't horrible, but shooting fans can certainly find a better title to play before settling for this.

The Expendables 2 somehow manages to turn the act of blowing anything and everything up into a dreadful bore.

The Expendables is a great Hollywood concept that could easily make a great video game but sadly this isn’t it. I can only hope the movie does well enough to give us a threequel and another chance at a bigger budget game that can show more potential. There are plenty of great dual joystick shooters on the market and while they are fun to play around with I suggest you avoid this one if you can. It makes me question Sony’s tactics when they choose this as their debut title for this year’s Playstation Play promotion.

As a fan of competent twin stick shooters, I found nothing at all in The Expendables 2 that would warrant me to recommend this game in any way. Boring gameplay, drab levels and poorly produced content are the headliners here; avoid at all costs, even if you are a fan of the movies. There are better games in this vein to spend your money on and one of them, Tomb Raider: Guardian of Light, is even free at the moment if you have a Playstation Plus subscription.
Gamegravy (Aug 13, 2012)
At $15, Expendables 2: The Video Game is an overpriced, fun-destroying slop of a game that is entirely not worth it. It seems like the only people who would enjoy it are action movie fans who don’t play video games, and therefore don’t know any better. This tiny demographic probably has no idea how to purchase a game on PSN Store though, so I think we’re safe in this being the only time we’ll be subjected to a crappy movie tie-in game ever again. Don’t play this.
GamesRadar (Aug 14, 2012)
The Expendables 2: The Game has very few redeemable qualities. The gameplay completely misses the mark, and leaves you feeling like you are battling the controls more than you are fighting the enemy. Polish issues pop-up regularly, the story makes no sense, the enemies are boring, and the list goes on. Also, only three out of a cast of a dozen action stars have likenesses that are in the game. If you’re looking for a fun, action-heavy co-op shooter, steer clear of The Expendables 2 and invest your time elsewhere. This is a game that isn’t expendable; it’s avoidable.

And that sums up The Expendables 2 Videogame in a nutshell: This game has no purpose. It’s one of the worst wastes of time I’ve ever had to review. It has no direction, shoddy controls, an ugly look, and possibly the most absent plot in the modern console generation. It’s an embarrassment, even as movie games go. I implore you to steer clear of this title at all costs.
