Description official description

Fallout: New Vegas - Honest Hearts is the second downloadable add-on for Fallout: New Vegas. The story leads the protagonist to the Canyon of Zion where he stumbles into a war between three tribes: the White Legs want to assimilate the Sorrows so they can join the Legion; the Dead Horses are allied with the Sorrows, but the two spiritual leaders have different opinions how to proceed: Joshua Graham, previously a high-ranking member of the Legion, wants to attack and Daniel, a New Canaanite (Mormon), prefers an evacuation.

Just like in the first DLC, once started, the player has to finish his new quests before he can return to the main game content. He also has to leave behind his companion and all equipment over a weight of 75 (respectively 100 with the right skills) behind. The structure of this DLC is somewhat different: while Dead Money tells a linear story, Honest Hearts is more about exploring the new playing area. The maximum character level is increased by five, and a variety of new enemies, perks and weapons is added.

Plenty of indians, but no cowboys

The Good
Honest Hearts expands on the back-story of the Burned Man, a character from the main New Vegas game who's believed to be missing and dead. Instead however, he's moved on and is trying to defend a tribe which is on the verge of being wiped out by a more aggressive clan.

Visually, Honest Hearts is amazing, with the action taking place amid vast canyons and gullies, and with some weather effects (e.g. rain) which aren't encountered in other areas of New Vegas. And there's a few new weapons to play with, too!

However...

The Bad
For all that it's visually interesting, Honest Hearts is perhaps the dullest area to explore in New Vegas. The main story is incredibly cliched, as are the characters you meet - everything revolves around the "humble indians living a simple pre-industrial life" trope. And it's not actually that much fun to explore: the mountains and canyons seriously restrict your freedom to move around the map, and there's not much other than a few tribal villages and a handful of abandoned pre-war buildings.

Overall, I fairly quickly lost interest, completed the main storyline and moved on to Old World Blues...

The Bottom Line
Competently implemented, but fairly dull compared to the rest of New Vegas!
