Sure, Order of the Phoenix is a little rough around the edges, but it's still the best Harry Potter game yet. Fans will get a huge kick over how well it recreates Harry's world. I know a lot of multiple system owners are wondering if they should get this version of the game or go for the waggle-enhanced Wii version. It's a tough call, really. Even though this version does sport motion control, it's not nearly as nice as the Wii version. However, the PS3 version looks quite a bit better than its Nintendo counterpart. It's your call, I suppose. What's more important to you, graphics or interactivity? Whichever one you choose, you're going to have a great time.

Order of the Phoenix is without a doubt the best entry in the Harry Potter game series to date. Its impressive ‘go anywhere’ style of play is every fan’s dream come true and the amount of freedom available in the game will keep players interested for a long time--just don't expect much replay value. Anyone hoping to play this game without first reading the book may be turned away by the constant bombardment of Harry Potter subtlety, but die-hard fans will be hooked from beginning to end.

The entire game will take you about 10-15 hours, but you may grow tired of running around in circles, completing menial tasks. The voices are great, the world is both lively and well-designed, the graphics are better than average, and the controls are decent, but unless you're really mesmerized by this virtual world, you'll probably grow bored long before you reach the conclusion. At the very least, though, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is definitely a solid choice for big fans of the series, and perhaps that's all EA was going for in the first place. It just isn't the kind of title we'd recommend to avid gamers looking for a high-quality and singular action/adventure experience.

After playing this game, my desire to read the final Harry Potter book has fluttered away into the night sky like a pesky golden snitch. I have no doubt that J.K. Rowling’s mesmerizing fiction will offer a thoroughly satisfying conclusion, but I don’t think that she’ll be able to pen a better future for Harry than this game does. Rather than grooming young Potter into Lord Voldemort’s ultimate opponent, Dumbledore is clearly prepping Harry to become the next janitor of Hogwarts. Through the majority of this game, you are asked to fix broken vases, straighten out rugs, open drapes, light torches, hang paintings, make beds, pick fruit, feed birds, and sweep up leaves. I just love the idea of this legacy ending, not with a Quidditch broom in hand, but a mop.

Game Chronicles (Aug 08, 2007)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a good game. I understand that the creators had to stick to the book or more so the movie. I know a lot of people were disappointed with the movie and the slow pace, so it’s only natural the game would be a little slow. When you’re reading the book you can experience Harry’s thoughts with him through your imagination, but it is a lot harder to make that into a game.

Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix is best suited for those looking to explore the depth and breadth of Hogwarts at their leisure. There's plenty of exploration waiting for gamers that want it and there are lots of little secrets tucked away in the vastness that is Hogwarts along with a number of interesting mini-games that you can partake in in between doing menial tasks to form your army. But not everyone will enjoy spending the 8+ hours it will take to get to the end of this latest Harry Potter game - particularly those that find the multitude of fetch quests a complete drag. At the end of it all the Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix games are good for Potter fans that want to explore, sandbox style, the fabled Hogwarts Academy. The experience isn't perfect, but it is one of the best Harry Potter games to come out of EA in awhile.

It's hard to imagine that the video game version of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will appeal to anyone. Older fans of Harry Potter will enjoy exploring Hogwarts for a while, but they'll soon be bored to tears by the low level of difficulty and the tedious objectives. The younger set will also get a kick out of seeing the sights and will appreciate the forgiving difficulty, as well as the simplicity of the tasks at hand. But they'll quickly grow tired of using their favorite character to perform a seemingly endless parade of chores. If being the most famous wizard in the world were this boring, there wouldn't have been more than one book.

Potter fans may enjoy this sightseeing tour around Hogwarts, but it’s going to take better, deeper stuff to innovate in the Grand Theft Auto genre. Order of the Phoenix is all about homework and chores, and feels harder to take in than a whole book - those are poor marks for a video game.
