Bravo, 2K Sports!

We can't wait to see what 2K Sports shoots us next year as we're expecting a slam dunk! (Hey, you didn't think you were getting out of this without at least one bad joke did ya?)

While it isn’t perfect, NBA 2K7 simply offers the most well-rounded, entertaining, and error-free hoops offering this season. Plenty of modes and gameplay depth combine with stunning visuals and presentation to make NBA 2K7 this year’s king of the court and a must own for PS3-owning hoops fans.

NBA 2K7 is an exceptional game. Graphically it’s beautiful on the PlayStation 3 and fine details have been put in to the stadiums and players like sweat running down a players arm. The game goes further by continuing the fine gameplay established in previous titles in the series and adding new opportunities with the SIXAXIS controller. While other sports games pull out essential features from their next-generation titles, 2K Sports doesn’t and instead pulls out all the stops to make this one of the best basketball titles in recent memory.

I suppose what it all really comes down to is this: NBA 2K7 is easily the greatest basketball game ever made regardless of the platform you play it on. It will please NBA fans infinitely and it will make non-fans appreciate the sport even more. Visual Concept has crafted a game that not only plays wonderfully but that rewards the player for playing it properly. While a lot could still be accomplished on the presentation side, NBA 2K7 remains the pinnacle of sport gaming and peerless among its competitors.

If you like basketball, or just having fun, do yourself a favour and get this game if you haven’t already. It’s a great title that won’t be out-done easily! Still here? What are you waiting for... go and purchase NBA 2K7 NOW!

It’s a two horse race as to which publisher has released the finest basketball game this season. Both EA and 2KGames have produced fine simulators but in terms or sheer gameplay and polish we think the crown this year firmly belongs to NBA2K7.

IGN (Nov 17, 2006)
NBA 2K7 is still the best basketball game out there, and it's improved thanks to the SIXAXIS controller, turning an already impressive title into a great one. By forcing you to use the controller instead of the analog stick for free throws, NBA 2K7 manages to make the SIXAXIS both a gimmick and a contribution to the gameplay. It's a gimmick that's contained to only a few situations during play, but it's a contribution because it's easy to learn, yet challenging to pull off. It also helps give you a better sense of the shot stick timing, which will definitely make you a better player in the long run.

Love basketball? NBA 2K7 is all you need. It’s faster, more realistic, and more naturally executed than the competition. But even if the competition were better, they’d still have a hard time matching, let alone surpassing, what 2K Sports has achieved. Pick up the controller, take one shot and you’ll know that this is where next-gen gaming is at.

If you really want a basketball game for your PlayStation 3, NBA 2K7 is definitely worth buying. The gameplay and graphics are still great and the amount of content here is stunning. Still, if you can wait a few more months until NBA 2K8 arrives, I suggest you do that.

Overall there isn't a lot to detract from NBA2K7 as a purchase for any PS3 sports game fan. The action is as deep and varied as ever, and providing you can put in the time to learn the nuances of the control scheme and the benefits of playing to the strengths of your favourite team, this is as deep and satisfying as any basketball simulation to come before it. It's also a considerable graphical powerhouse; the flowing cloth physics and televisual in-game presentation will show off your new hardware in a fantastic manner, and whether your interested in the purely aesthetic aspects or the oodles of deep and varied gameplay, NBA 2K7 is a worthwhile addition to any sports fans collection.

GameSpot (Nov 17, 2006)
When everything comes together, NBA 2K7 looks and feels amazing. Watching a player in the low post receive a bounce pass, pivot one way, take a drop step the other, and finally slam the ball home is truly something to behold. Unfortunately, these instances of perfection aren't as frequent as they could be, given the preponderance of nagging gameplay issues. If you already own the game on the Xbox 360, there's no reason to pick it up again on the PlayStation 3. However, if you're looking for a great, well-rounded basketball game for your new PlayStation 3, you'll be pleased with NBA 2K7.

Although not a huge amount has been changed from the previous instalments, when a game is as good as NBA 2K7 it's hard to care, especially when almost everything added works so well. Although not quite the defining basketball experience that you might have hoped for, NBA 2K7 comes dangerously close while still giving the impression that it has a few more tricks left in the locker. Maybe the inevitable NBA 2K8 will resolve the minor issues that still exist, but until then basketball fans need not look anywhere else, because NBA 2K7 is still without doubt top dog when it comes basketball.

TotalPlayStation (Nov 30, 2006)
Luckily, few other parts of NBA 2K7 are painful. The street ball section may be a little more half-baked than the rest of the game, but extensive career options, great online play, and a downright solid game of basketball help VC and 2K Sports deliver the best roundball sim on the PS3.

GameSpy (Nov 30, 2006)
NBA 2K7 is an excellent basketball game, with more features than you can exhaust in months of play. There are enough gameplay modes available here to appeal to any basketball fan, whether it be the competitive head-to-head fan, the franchise-loving simulation freak, or even those who can't get enough over-the-top streetball action. If the online multiplayer functionality can work the kinks out in the next few days, then this package will be well-worth a look by any and all PS3 owners. Visual Concepts and 2K Sports have done it again, and NBA 2K7 comes highly recommended.

While slightly inferior to the Xbox 360 version on a technical level, the PlayStation 3 version of NBA 2K7 is still a fantastic basketball game – so if you’re a PlayStation 3 owner in need of a hoops fix, this is the way to go. The depth of play modes, quality of gameplay and robust online options should have any basketball fan entertained for months.

Bordersdown (May, 2007)
NBA2K7 is generally a success at moving the franchise into the next generation. Although a few niggles still remain it’s by far the best serious basketball game currently available and with a decent online community that harks back to the series’ Dreamcast roots it is definitely a recommended purchase if you are a fan of the sport.

DarkZero (Jun 06, 2007)
When all is said a done, NBA 2K7 is another fantastic edition to the now long running series that started life on the Dreamcast seven years ago. It terms of gameplay it does very little different than its predecessor, and as such is not a necessity to pick up once again. Nevertheless, fans will most likely want to get their hands on it for the small changes and extra modes it brings to the table. In closing I would say that if you were still playing NBA 2K6 for months after you bought it then there is a great chance you will be doing exactly the same with this year's version should you choose to buy it… in fact I’d be willing to guess you’ll be doing the exactly same thing with 2K8, but I don’t blame you!

Thunderbolt Games (Sep 27, 2007)
Overall however there isn't a lot to detract from NBA2K7. Providing you can put in enough time to learn the nuances of the control scheme and generate a set of tactics that you feel comfortable playing with, there is an almost endless level of depth here that other sports games simply cannot match. On top of this, 2K7 is a definite graphical powerhouse, and will show off any next-generation setup to the maximum of it's capabilities. Whether its for purely aesthetic reasons or gameplay alone, NBA2K7 is a worthy purchase for any basketball fan.

GamePro (US) (Dec 12, 2006)
Which game to choose? Though both games bring some of the most realistic gameplay of any NBA game to date, they're mostly just shinier, glossier versions of their prior releases. Still, we give the nod to NBA 2K7 for its superior in-game management and franchise development mode.

NBA 2K7 drops the ball. That’s all there is to it. It’s not an awful game, but it is riddled with gameplay flaws that weren’t apparent in last year’s next-gen debut. The visuals are great, the presentation is great, all the modes are there–but when the game isn’t as fun to play as it is to simulate, it isn’t worth your $30, your $60, or really any amount of your money.
