Bravo 2K Sports - so muss Basketball aussehen!
Gaming Age (Oct 22, 2008)
2K seems very comfortable with their winning formula - they've got a game that plays and looks great that improves a little each year. They've succeeded in adding wrinkles that do what should be the #1 goal of anyone who makes sports games: They stay out of the way.
Middle East Gamers (MEgamers) (Oct 11, 2008)
A wonderfully done basketball game by 2K Sports that is worth all the money and time you will invest in it.
1UP (Oct 07, 2008)
The NBA 2K9 team has refined last year's game and added several new features that change the way videogame basketball is played. While it's not perfect, 2K9's certainly headed toward another title run.
Gameswelt (Oct 29, 2008)
GamesRadar (Oct 09, 2008)
NBA 2K9 is the closest thing yet we’ve seen to a total hoops package. Other than a few minor quibbles – the visuals get choppy during the cutscenes between play and the Blacktop mode is a throwaway collection of uninteresting minigames – we’re utterly delighted with 2K’s latest ode to the hardwood. Besides, with the promise of Living Rosters and an always-impressive set of online options, there’s plenty to keep us entertained. Even though the competition this season is better than ever, NBA 2K9 puts the franchise back on top of the hoops heap. Sometimes, everything just comes together nicely.
GameSpy (Oct 15, 2008)
Don't get us wrong though, as the most passionate NBA purists should hardly be scared by those quibbles. This game delivers where it needs to, offering the most realistic NBA experience to date. Heck, even free-throw shooting means memorizing the shooting styles of different NBA players (a feature we really like, by the way). Playing a quick game isn't so difficult that a casual fan would be turned off, and the people who eat, sleep and live hoops can go as deep into the game as they desire. We'll be interested in seeing whether or not Living Rosters is a worthy update to the NBA 2K series, but even if it needs work, the look, feel and knowledge of the sport that NBA 2K9 displays will be more than enough to help it repeat as champion.
Gamernode (Oct 19, 2008)
Despite those two issues, everything about NBA 2K9 blows NBA Live 09 out of the water. The presentation of players is better; the presentation of fans, on-screen stats, and arenas are better; the gameplay is better; Association 2.0 blows the Dynasty Mode out of the water. If you're a basketball fan, NBA 2K9 is easily the game to get this season.
Gamezone (Germany) (Oct 16, 2008)
Digital Chumps (Oct 20, 2008)
I had a great time with two friends last year as we played through our NBA 2K8 season over the course of several months. We've been looking forward to NBA 2K9 since, and now it's finally here, and our new season has begun. The best game for NBA simulation continues to improve upon itself and this year is no exception.
NZGamer (Oct 22, 2008)
In the end, if like me you’re of average height, average athletic ability and only have an average white man ‘fro then standing under the hoop while some sweaty guy in a singlet dunks on top of you, has reinforced the shear impossibility of basketball. Throwing a ball I get, catching, kicking, and hitting those same balls with a stick - no problem. But, dunking I have long resigned myself to never be able to do. However, with the insight and dedication the makers of NBA 2K9 have applied to their franchise, dunking from my couch has never been more fun, more rewarding or closer to the real thing.

All in all, 2K9 is a great basketball game. The game has set new standards for visuals and sound in a sports game, and I think it could be quite a while before somebody tops those efforts. With the gameplay as fun as it is, 2K9 could be a constant visitor to your PS3’s Disc-Tray. This game constantly updates, keeping your rosters up-to-date (thanks to the new Living Roster feature). The online options can keep you occupied for quite some time, especially with the added 5-on-5 mode, which makes every scoring opportunity seem like a huge deal.
PSX Extreme (Oct 15, 2008)
In that way, we really don’t get a good representation of the patented NBA vibe and lifestyle. It’s a major drawback and quite noticeable, even when you’re only fooling around in Quick Play mode, but that doesn’t mean the game isn’t worth playing. Quite the contrary in fact; NBA 2K9 has set the bar quite high and EA’s NBA Live 09 will be hard-pressed to leap over it. In comparison to last year’s title, 2K’s 09 effort presents a faster, smoother, livelier, and perhaps most importantly, an even more accessible and realistic depiction of basketball. There are a few problems – we once watched an opponent try to back down our locked-in defender for the full remainder of the shot clock – but nothing that will deter you from having fun. Slowly but surely, developers are starting to produce simulators that are both accurate and entertaining, and it’s something we’ve been waiting for since this new generation kicked off.
Futuregamez.net (Nov 04, 2008)
Overall NBA 2K9 is a thoroughly enjoyable game. The controls are a bit over-complicated which will turn some newcomers off, but devoted basketball fans, or those with a bit of patience will be well rewarded for their efforts. NBA 2K9 looks great, plays well and the crowd does a great job of setting the right atmosphere. With a deep and enjoyable Association mode NBA 2K9 should keep fans busy until next year's instalment.
GameFocus (Oct 27, 2008)
Yes, NBA 2K9 is great. While Living Rosters and Five-on-Five online are noteworthy additions to the franchise, the game doesn’t feature much new stuff besides those two options. Instead, Visual Concepts tweaked, improved and continued to build upon several aspects the franchise has been accustomed to deliver year after year. It’s definitely good to see the improvement especially after the less-stellar 2K8. NBA 2K9 is the closest you will get to the NBA world and it’s definitely worth every penny.
Game Informer Magazine (Oct, 2008)
With its realistic animations, solid controls, and ambitious Association mode, NBA 2K9 makes its title run once again. But the competition is stiffening, and next year needs to bring significant leaps forward with online play and the low-post game if 2K wants to make it 10 in a row
IGN (Oct 06, 2008)
NBA 2K9 is basketball game for the purists out there and has plenty for diehard basketball fans to enjoy. There are tidbits built in to appease casual fans, but there’s no question that with things like Bird Years making their way into this year’s game that 2K9 is made for aficionados. Even still, anyone who has seen a pro game will be able to see the similarities and the finite details that make NBA 2K9 the best game in town.
TotalPlayStation (Oct 07, 2008)
NBA2K9 is another quality basketball sim from 2K Sports. While it is not perfect, it is without a doubt the best of the three NBA games available this fall.
GameTrailers (Oct, 2008)
The NBA 2K series has seen modest improvements since NBA 2K7, primarily due to the level of quality achieved at such an early phase in the next-gen life cycle. Because of this, casual hoops players aren't going to be wowed with this latest iteration of NBA 2K9, but it's meant to satisfy those who live and breathe basketball, as the improvements in the AI and atmosphere alone are sure to tickle the inner twine of dedicated fans.
ZTGameDomain (Oct, 2008)
Overall, NBA 2k9 is a very good, if not perfect game. The Association mode is making a case for the best franchise mode in the entire genre, and the on court gameplay is mostly very solid. With some tweaks to the post play, and an overhauled menu system, next years' version has the potential to be a truly outstanding title. As it stands, 2k9 is definitely worth picking up for NBA fans, and a worthy addition to any sports gamers library.
Game Over Online (Nov 03, 2008)
NBA 2K9 trails NBA Live 09 in the visuals and presentation department, but it makes up for this shortcoming by whooping Live in the gameplay department. NBA 2K is still the standard for basketball gameplay, and if you're wondering which title to go with this year, NBA 2K9 is your choice.
Cheat Code Central (Oct, 2008)
NBA 2K9 is a solid basketball experience through and through. While the competition is still in a rebuilding process of sorts, 2K has taken advantage by improving on what they’ve accomplished in their NBA series throughout recent years. Anyone who has enjoyed the last couple of installments won’t be disappointed with the changes made this year. The Living Rosters feature is certainly enticing enough for 2K fans to pick this title up. Whereas Live 09 offers similar new features, 2K has the ability to back up their new features with smooth on-court gameplay. This is simply a more fun basketball experience.
Worth Playing (Oct 23, 2008)
The main thing to take away from NBA 2K9 is that this is a game designed and built for hardcore fans, and it's not going to waste any time concerning itself with anyone who doesn't "get it." To be perfectly blunt, the game is very, very hard, and most decidedly not for everyone, especially if you aren't an NBA superfan or a longtime franchise devotee. Those willing to put in the time and effort to learn the game are going to absolutely adore it, but anyone who is looking for a title that will allow you to easily jump into a game of basketball is going to be frustrated. The bottom line is that NBA 2K9 is a beautiful, deep, staggering game, but its high walls bar entry for all but the most fanatical fans.
HonestGamers (Staff reviews only) (Nov 10, 2008)
NBA 2K9 needs a bit more work before it can achieve a truly “perfect” status within its current form. By the time that can happen, it will likely need another overhaul to correspond with the next console generation, thus creating a never-ending battle for 2K Sports’ developers. Despite the flaws, they’ve created a wonderful gaming experience that will surely entertain series veterans and casual sports fans alike but may not have what it takes to win over those who prefer EA’s brand of basketball.
Daily Game (Nov 18, 2008)
But really, not much has changed from NBA 2K8 that will really compel you to buy this latest edition. Free throws are still much more difficult than they should be, and the advertising is still smothering. Are roster updates and full online teams worth $60? Really, that all depends on how much your Gamerscore is worth to you, because you can rack up Achievement Points in a hurry. Otherwise, stick with NBA 2K8 and see what 2K...10(?) holds in store.
Game Informer Magazine (Nov, 2008)
Dedication is also shown in the extensive dynasty options, with player roles being a much better way to value chemistry over the broken player dialogue system from a few years back.
GameSpot (Oct 08, 2008)
It's disappointing that there aren't more noteworthy additions to this year's game. Living rosters and five-on-five play are nice, but their appeal is limited. That said, there's very little not to like about NBA 2K9. Player animations are outstanding, Association mode is deep, online options are plentiful, and the gameplay is terrific. If you're a baller, this is the game for you.
GameDaily (Oct 08, 2008)
This all combines to form an impressive hoops package that's worth your money if you intend to invest the time become a quality ball player. Yes, NBA 2K9 has shortcomings, but it will keep you occupied well into the season. We just hope 2K Sports fixes the aforementioned issues before NBA 2K10. Otherwise, this franchise is in danger of getting bumped from the first round.
Gameplanet (Nov 13, 2008)
If this franchise is going to keep its head above water then there’s a load of problems that need to be ironed out before NBA 2K10.
Game Shark (Nov 05, 2008)
The Association mode is a very deep simulation experience that should satisfy most simulation fans. There's a wealth of information available and the ability to customize the league and determine how much control the owner has over the team. The in-game engine, while showing some animation weaknesses, still provides a good simulation experience. 2K Sports needs to get the menu and gameplay controls simplified to the point where an advanced degree isn't needed to master the game. As it currently stands, there are a few too many nagging issues to qualify it as a major advancement in this series.
