Defunct Games (Jun 14, 2010)
Red Dead Redemption is more than a great western, it's the first time this type of game has been successfully recreated for a home game console. Others have tried, but nobody has been able to offer a world as compelling as Rockstar Games. With its lengthy story, exciting characters and fantastic online implementation, Red Dead Redemption is a must-buy for anybody who has always wanted to be a cowboy!

Game Revolution (Jun 01, 2010)
Red Dead Redemption is a game that leaves you satisfied with your experience with a great ending that will hopefully lead right into the sequel (or at least some DLC) and at the same time makes you want more. Seriously, this is the best GTA since Vice City, and it's not even technically GTA. With more co-op missions on the way and an already enticing multiplayer beyond the single-player game, it's going to be a long time before this one rides off into the sunset for good.
Boomtown (May 17, 2010)
I've enjoyed playing RDR on Xbox 360 so much I'm about to start my second run through the game. I'll take my time and explore even more, earning my stripes as a hunter, survivalist and treasure seeker ahead of launching into the multiplayer madness when the game is released tomorrow. I'll add some multiplayer impressions in the coming days once I've had a chance to play Red Dead Redemption under real-world conditions. For now rest assured that Red Dead Redemption is a single player game that keeps on giving, is as good as if not better than Grand Theft Auto IV and is as beautiful as a Hollywood epic.

Gamereactor (Sweden) (May 17, 2010)
NZGamer (May 18, 2010)
Red Dead Redemption has, to this point, been a near perfect experience in videogaming. It's a game of wide open spaces, gravelly voiced cowboys, crooked politicians, and intimidating facial hair. Now's the time for me to go an obsess about whether I have accurately conveyed not only my intense pleasure in having finally been able to play it end to end, but whether I have quite rightly said: YOU won't be disappointed. The world is populated by rustlers, cutthroats, thieves, whores and power-drunk commanders. But at the same time, you'll find sweethearts, poets, hardworking ranchers and those that are willing to die alongside you for a good cause. You can choose which side of the line you want to walk, and I am quite sure you'll be walking it for a long, long time. On a personal note, this reviewer has a new favourite of all time: see ya later, Ocarina... we had some good times.
Cheat Code Central (May, 2010)
Red Dead Redemption more than lives up to the billing; if this game's concepts seem even remotely interesting to you, head out immediately to your nearest game store and slap your cash down. The single-player story alone is more than worth the price of admission, and the multiplayer is truly unique and will likely evolve into something very special as the community continues to grow. Bravo Rockstar! You've created yet another juggernaut. I can't wait to see where the series goes from here.
1UP (May 17, 2010)
Anyway, Red Dead is a great game to climb into and just live for a while, and that's everything I wanted. In fact, I'm actually feeling pretty annoyed that I'm not wandering around in there right now. Stupid videogame reviews. There are herds to save, outlaws to kneecap, frontier ladies to rescue, random strangers to tie up and drop off a cliff for no reason, and sunsets that need riding off into.

Only time will tell, of course. Perhaps I’m wrong, and the gaming masses don’t want to rush out and embrace Red Dead Redemption in the way they did with GTA IV. If they don’t, it’ll be a crying shame and perhaps the final proof that cowboy games just don’t work. But I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think this game is going to do the business, big time. I certainly hope it does, because to be frank, it’s a magnificent piece of work that everybody should play. John Marston may not quite be the next Jack Sparrow, but in the realm of cowboy games, Red Dead Redemption is clearly the genuine article.
GameSpy (May 19, 2010)
The fact of the matter is, this is a game that you really need to play (hell, just watching someone play might be enough) to appreciate. With Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar succeeds in creating one of the most impressive open worlds I've ever seen in a game, and it's telling that -- even after playing for over 30 hours -- all I want to do is get back on my horse and gallop back into the wilderness. Hey, those endangered species aren't just going to kill themselves, right?
3D Juegos (May 18, 2010)
Digital Chumps (May 21, 2010)
Every aspect of this game is heavenly. You'll be drawn in immediately and soon find yourself unable/unwilling to pull yourself out of this very real, rich, alive world that Rockstar has created. Excellent gunfights, strong characters and plenty of room for expansion makes Red Dead Redemption one of the best games of 2010.
IGN UK (May 17, 2010)
At the outset Red Dead Redemption promises to be GTA on horseback. Several hours later it goes on to fulfil that promise and then top it. This is so much more than a mere retooling of Rockstar's tried and tested open world formula – it's an artful take on a world long lost, an evocative paean to not only the Western genre but also to the beautiful expanse of the American landscape. Even better though is that under that remarkable feat is a game that's been refined and revitalised, setting the open world genre free and creating an experience that's quite likely to be one of this year's very best.
IGN Australia (May 17, 2010)
Look, here comes the hyperbole; you'll have to excuse us on this one, but Red Dead Redemption surely deserves heaped praise: this is a momentous gaming experience; one that marries artistry with supreme design rarely seen. If there's a textbook on how to be referent to a classic genre while always pressing forward, Red Dead Redemption is the byline. Wonderful.
Game Informer Magazine (May 17, 2010)
To succeed where other Western games have failed, Red Dead Redemption deftly recreates a sandbox playground of a tumultuous historical period swept away by technological progress. The game perfectly captures the expansiveness of frontier life and the gritty gunplay of spaghetti westerns, rightfully earning its place alongside the great Western films and the best Rockstar games.
ZTGameDomain (May, 2010)
I don't know what else to say about this game and I'm sure I forgot to mention something, that's how big this game is! But I can't say it enough: this game is amazing! It's the total package: it has a fantastic single player story (with great voice acting) and some of the best multiplayer that I have experienced so far in a sandbox type game. With all the great games that came out the same day as RDR, I highly recommend this game over the other ones hands down and that is hard for me to say because the other games are pretty amazing as well. But if you have to only choose one, choose Red Dead Redemption because you really can't afford to miss this one! It has set a new standard for sandbox games.
Vandal Online (May 17, 2010)
IGN (May 17, 2010)
Red Dead Redemption is a must-play game. Rockstar has taken the Western to new heights and created one of the deepest, most fun, and most gorgeous games around. You can expect the occasional bug or visual hiccup, but you can also expect a fantastic game that offers the Western experience we've all been waiting for. Red Dead Redemption is a complete game in every sense -- both the single player and multiplayer modes are excellent -- and still manages to offer an attention to detail you rarely see from a game of this scope.
I haven't had a chance to evaluate the multiplayer aspect of Red Dead Redemption, and even so, I think it deserves a separate review anyway. So, overall, I give RDR a 9.6, purely because it is an awesome game, but there are a few, well, glitches that have been found by the community since release. Sure, we don't expect developers to be perfect all the time, but seriously, wrong models? Flying horses? It just blows your mind.
GamingEvolution (Mar 02, 2011)
Many people like to call Red Dead Redemption “GTA 4 in the Wild West” and I honestly do not mind the comparison. Rockstar did a Grand Theft Auto like job with this game in that it’s a total sandbox game with great dialogue. The graphics and visual design of the game works very well and looks awesome. All the interactions with different animals and the landscape creates’ a world that is wild and intense at times. Rockstar gives you a character in John Marston that you love, even though he does bad things. Along his journey you will grow a fondness for Marston; through the highs and lows, in a similar fashion to Niko Bellic from GTA 4. If you like westerns and are fond of epic adventures, this game is a must have for your collection. From the open-world environments, to more than 20+ hours of gameplay and an epic multiplayer that will have you spending hours upon hours enjoying, Red Dead Redemption is clearly a title well worth the sticker price.
GreatGamer.Ru (Jan 12, 2011)
PlayStation Universe (May 21, 2010)
Those thinking that this is nothing more than Grand Theft Auto IV in the West will be surprised to see that, in many ways, Rockstar has outdone its last major sandbox game. Red Dead Redemption is arguably one of the best games we’ve played in a long, long time. Sure, it has some minor problems, but overall its story and immense world offer up both engaging and compelling gameplay that any self-respecting gamer needs to experience.
Impulse Gamer (May, 2010)
How ever you go, either with the Xbox360 or PS3 version. Red Dead Redemption is more than just some basic concepts with a new coat of paint. Standing on it's own two feet, with out comparing it to anything else from Rockstar's past games...(Because of course something years later sure as heck should be better.).....Red Dead Redemption is a stellar game. Such a basic concept brought to quality heights by the sum of it's pieces and how they mesh together. Sure some of the acts and side missions may smack of representativeness, but there is enough there to balance it out to a truly enjoyable gaming experience.
GameSpot (May 18, 2010)
Between the Free Roam and competitive modes, there's enough great multiplayer content to keep you playing Red Dead Redemption long after you've watched the credits roll at the end of the superb single-player mode and gone back in to finish up any optional challenges and missions that you missed. This is an outstanding game that tells a great story with memorable and occasionally laugh-out-loud-funny characters. Think about great moments that you remember from spaghetti Western movies, put them all into one 20- to 40-hour epic feature, and picture yourself in the starring role. Now you have some idea of what's waiting for you in Red Dead Redemption.
PSX Extreme (May 19, 2010)
So what does the above score say taking that into consideration? Even the online multiplayer is great; the various host of modes makes everything feel fresh, you really have to take your time and be precise, and there were only a few technical hang-ups during my matches. Never did find a Rockstar employee, though… Anyway, Red Dead Redemption is a triumph and although not entirely devoid of an assortment of little flaws and annoyances, it’s still one of the best of the generation. Saddle up and ride!
SOS Gamers (Jun 04, 2010)
Videogameszone (May 20, 2010)
GamingLives (Jun 02, 2010)
Red Dead Redemption has taken a genre that few have had the guts to venture into and thrown it straight into the spotlight. It’s an all-round complete experience, be it single player or multiplayer, which ever your preference you won’t be disappointed. It oozes quality from every orifice, the attention to detail, the killer soundtrack the masterpiece of character design, it all slots together to create a game that surely must be touted as potential game of the year material. This isn’t just the best game I’ve played all year, but it’s also the best piece of digital entertainment, I’ve had the pleasure of inducing on myself. A phenomenal masterpiece of game creation.

Enjoy !
TheHDRoom (HDR) (Jun 06, 2010)
Red Dead Redemption is an excellent game and one of the best 2010 has produced so far for Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. The novelty of the side quests and activities begin to drag after a few hours, but a top notch main mission which must be experienced to be appreciated and additional multiplayer options online more than make up for the slack. Grab the reins and head off to the dusty trails of New Austin. Look past the odd glitches as they don't detract from the majority of the experience which is well worth your hard earned cash.

Merci Rockstar.
GamersGlobal (May 22, 2010)
GamesRadar (May, 2010)
Without a doubt, Red Dead Redemption has been worth the wait. The finesse of the final delivery and the richness of the world is awe-inspiring and will keep you thrilled from start to finish.
Video Games Daily (May 18, 2010)
Surprisingly few games have attempted to realise this most captivating period of American history, and fewer still have managed to nail it so convincingly. In Redemption, Rockstar have succeeded in taking an over-subscribed genre and realising it with such atmosphere and boundless possibility that it fluently captures the thrill of the Wild West, and with that they’ve taken the Red Dead franchise into the big league, proud to stand alongside the best work they’ve ever produced.

DarkZero (Jul 09, 2010)
It has been said more than once that Red Dead Redemption is simply Grand Theft Auto IV with horses. There is certainly a strong case to argue there, but this is to miss much of the great success of either game. Red Dead Redemption is a wonderfully envisaged take on the spaghetti western that includes much of what you’d crave and expect of a game based in the Wild West: revenge, treasure, horses, duels and ponchos. Yes there are niggles with the shooting mechanics and reports of the occasional invisible horse, but these are easily forgiveable given the greater extent of the overall achievement. For me it is a shame that plot did not match the technical qualities exhibited by Rockstar, but for many this may well not be an issue. If you like the idea of a sandbox western then this is money well spent. In what other game can you earn a ‘dastardly’ achievement by saving a damsel in distress, then putting her on the rail road tracks to meet her fate?
80 (UK) (May 17, 2010)
The result is an exceptional Rockstar game, one that successfully re-clothes the Grand Theft Auto framework in an exciting, distinct and expertly realised scenario. But just how satisfying the formula remains after the exuberant destructiveness of Red Faction: Guerrilla, or the joyful, ad-hoc player stories born in the freedom of Just Cause 2's playpen, is increasingly under scrutiny. And even within Rockstar's own canon, there is little here for that smart young journalist to inform Liberty City about that it didn't already know. A magnificent eight, then.
Read Dead Redemption is a running attempt at a game. It’s fun when you first pick it up, but with an inverse learning curve, bug problems, and a weak story propelled forward with unlikeable characters, it doesn’t have enough going for it to warrant it beyond a bargain-bin purchase.
