It really is tragic that these two games have been treated so poorly. This is still a great package as both games are still a joy to play; you just can't help but feel that this could have been a must-have title for horror fans if it left in the right hands. As it is, maybe buy this if you can't get hold of original copies.

I would say that the answer would have to be yes, most definitely. Us older gamers will love the chance to go back to a game that was truly a breakthrough for it's time. It's still scary as all get out and filled with the most eerie environments ever seen in a video game, at least in my opinion. The audio is creepy and a true character in itself so make sure your sound system is up to snuff before embarking on this journey. You won't be disappointed. A friendly note to younger gamers would be simply this: Be kind to this game and give it a chance. Both titles on this collection are what made the games that you enjoy now so good. A lot of them wouldn't have the edge that you take for granted if it wasn't for Silent Hill. So be kind and remember the legacy behind this title and proceed with caution, a great and horrifying story awaits.

One new addition that cuts into the Silent Hill experience is trophies, specifically the little jingle that plays when you earn one. Sure, you can disable system notifications on the PlayStation 3, but doing doesn't disable trophy notifications. It's also unfortunate that Silent Hill 4: The Room, released around the same time and on the same platforms as the previous two, escaped inclusion in this release. Nonetheless, Silent Hill HD Collection is a convenient way for fans to experience the series' early years on modern hardware.
