Even if your child runs around the house, yelling, “I love Snips!” this title’s frustrating gameplay will be a hard sell. If you have such a child in your household, I would do everything in my power to ensure they never catch wind of this game. Moreover, I would correct the “I love Snips” error through Clockwork Orange-like viewings of the original trilogy.

Unless you or your kids want to play as Jedi or clone troopers just for the sake of doing so, then there's really nothing here that'll keep anyone, young or old, interested for very long. Even if it does, you or your kin are bound to be frustrated at numerous sections and will likely wind up putting down the controller sooner or later. If you want a good family-oriented Star Wars game, you're still way better off with the LEGO Star Wars titles.
Whether you've got a friend playing with you or not, Republic Heroes likely won't hold your interest the entire way through. Sure, the game is fairly long, but every level feels the same as the last, as you kill wave after wave of the same few droids types and continue to fight with the game's biggest challenge: its poorly implemented platform jumping. Being able to play as both Jedi and Clone Troopers was an interesting idea and one that I think could have worked, I only wish it had been tried in a better Star Wars game.

I get the feeling that development on Star Wars: The Clone Wars may have been rushed to coincide with the release of the second season of the show, which is kind of a shame because there is a lot potential in the concepts behind it. But a family-friendly game really needs to be accessible to kids first and foremost but still fun for adults as well, which is what made the Lego Star Wars games so much fun to play. But all the platform follies you’ll face playing this game take away that accessibility. I think if they’d been given another month or two to put another coat of paint on this one, we may have seen something really fun that would’ve pleased fans of all ages. As it stands now though, the Dark Side of the Force clouds everything.

In the game's defence, hearing the voice actors reprise their roles from the animated series will help convince young Clone Wars fans that what they're playing is the real deal, despite the fact that the dialogue, especially Yoda's, is terrible (hearing Yoda say “Droid-Jak” is particularly soul destroying). And while the graphics are uninspiring and bland, they're at least designed in the same Cartoon Network anime style as the show. But these slight positives are unceremoniously blasted into oblivion by the unresponsive controls and awful platforming. It's obvious that adult gamers should avoid Republic Heroes. But, more damning, it's also impossible to recommend it to anyone wondering whether they should buy it for a young fan of The Clone Wars.
GameSpot (Oct 06, 2009)
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes is the Jar-Jar Binks of 3D platformers. Even the most diehard Star Wars fan will have a hard time stomaching this disappointing effort. All of the control problems, confusing level design, and weird camera positions create a perfect storm of stupid that makes for one spectacularly frustrating platformer.
Gamekult (Oct 09, 2009)

To simply state that Krome Studios should have worked harder to replicate Traveller's Tales various successes is perhaps to undermine what the LEGO developer has achieved. Good game design for children is difficult and demands not only diligence and inspiration at the planning stage, but also an awful lot of observation of how children react as they play. Right from first touch, it's clear that Republic Heroes hasn't undergone nearly enough of this sort of testing, and the uninspired foundations are further compromised as they are built upon. As a result, this is a product that will make children frustrated and unhappy, the very opposite of that to which Star Wars should aspire.

1UP (Oct 13, 2009)
Even if you do like the cartoon, though, I urge you to avoid Republic Heroes. Its basic design philosophy is one of laziness and glossing over problems rather than really putting out the effort to make a decent game. That's a bitter pill to swallow for a kid who just shelled out 50 bucks of lunch money.
