Super may lack the impact of its immediate forebear, which grabbed headlines with its heady combination of brilliance and novelty. But this is the very best sort of evolution, a perfection of detail, one that diminishes its faults and amplifies its successes. If Super is, as producer Yoshinori Ono claims, to be the final iteration of Street Fighter IV (besides the inevitable DLC), then fittingly it goes out in its prime, a game at the very top of its game.
Giant Bomb (Apr 25, 2010)
However, there's still a big, tutorial-shaped hole in Street Fighter IV. You're left with the impression that if the challenge mode would just show you what it's asking you to do before you do it, or if there was some even more basic training that would show players how to properly use focus attacks and dash cancels, more introductory players would go on to become better, smarter street fighters. Of course, a fighting game is only fun if you're matched up with like-minded, similarly skilled opposition, and in this respect, the game seems to be able to help you have fun, regardless of your skill level. SSFIV makes last year's fighting game a lot better, and it does it at a less-than-full retail price. Like I said up top, if you've got any interest in fighting games at all, Super Street Fighter IV is a killer deal.
1UP (Apr 27, 2010)
Change can be scary, but it's inevitable. So long Street Fighter 4, we'll miss your quirks (see: Ryu's superfireball traps, post-round hits, and Sagat's damage output). Now, let's welcome Super Street Fighter 4 with open arms.
Teletext (2010)
You could argue that the fairly plain single-player is still a notable flaw but other than the hell of a standard 360 D-pad it's largely the only one. Hopefully it's already obvious whether this will appeal if you already have the original version, but if it helps it is a tenner cheaper than usual. The real incentive though should simply be to experience the best fighting game ever made. Until the next one at least.

Game Shark (May 11, 2010)
Still, learning is part of the fun, and when this, and a few weird user interface issues (do I really need to tap the A button 16 times to individually acknowledge the number of new costume colors I’ve unlocked?) comprise the worst parts of the game, how can you hate? Super Street Fighter IV is more than a basic expansion pack. Yeah, it probably could have been added to Street Fighter IV as downloadable content, but it would change the game, especially for the hardcore, to the point of being too dissimilar. And if being a different, better version of one of the best 2D fighting games ever doesn’t warrant your time, I don’t know what does.
Impulse Gamer (May, 2010)
At the end of the day, Street Fighter IV is easily one of the best fighting games for quite some time that is high on content and high on gameplay. With unlockable content from modes to taunts to name a few, this game has it all and whether you want to play online or offline, both are equally good. The game is quality from start to finish and even if you're not a Street Fighter fan, I still recommended that you check it out, even a rent before a buy. Definitely great value for money! A++
In a nutshell, Super Street Fighter 4 offers new characters, great gameplay, amazing value and best of all great replay value. This game is a must have. In the words of Street Fighter “A new Challenger has approached”.
96 (May 04, 2010)
It's a big game, and one that requires a serious amount of dedication and commitment. You can't just dabble in Street Fighter, but you shouldn't really want to: spend a few hours trying to learn it and you'll be hooked for life. This is the epitome of hardcore gaming, a masterclass of competition that demands the upmost in technical proficiency and mental clarity. As my friend Dudley would probably say, it's a game with plenty of dignity.
95 (Apr 26, 2010)
SSFIV is the definitive version of Street Fighter. There hasn't been this large of an effort into rebalancing, adding and polishing what already worked in the franchise on this magnitude. The reduced retail price is a sweet spot and makes it easy to recommend even for those who have purchased the original Street Fighter IV. The future looks bright for SSFIV and its newly buffed online modes with the promise of Tournament Mode DLC in the near future. Fighting game fans need to own SSFIV.
Worth Playing (Apr 30, 2010)
Combine that with the return of almost everything that made Street Fighter IV a big hit, and the game turns out to be much beefier than expected. The $40 price tag, which is two-thirds the cost of a full game, further emphasizes that this title is an absolute bargain. For those who didn't enjoy last year's game, this won't change your mind about the franchise. For fans of the series, this review only reinforces your purchase or will encourage you to get this since the online community for the original could migrate to this game. For those who have been interested in the series but failed to pick up last year's title, this is the definitive version to get. Just be prepared for the imminent pummeling at the hands of gamers who have played the original for more than a year.
Gamernode (Apr 27, 2010)
To say Super Street Fighter IV is "worth it" or even necessary is an understatement. The addition of 10 new characters, re-balanced fighters, new features, and a revamped online mode make this $40 dollar package an astounding deal. Capcom has done much more than slap on a few new characters and push the game out the door. They've taken the original title, reconstructed it, and produced a game that surpasses the original Street Fighter IV in every way possible.
PlayStation Universe (May 01, 2010)
What you’ve essentially got with Super Street Fighter IV is a more balanced Street Fighter game that has been enhanced with more characters, more play styles, more moves and a blindingly brilliant online component that represents the pinnacle of the franchise's glittering career. The only negative words that we can say about the game is that we have no idea where Capcom can take the Street Fighter franchise from here.
Console Monster (May 10, 2010)
All-in-all Super Street Fighter IV is a welcome addition to the series that fine-tunes and tweaks what is already a world-class beat-em-up title, though it is debatable whether you should buy this edition if you already have the earlier edition. If you are a regular online player, most dedicated players will flock over to Super and you should definitely follow suit, even if it’s to start off a fresh slate in rankings. If you are a casual player who has already exhausted what Street Fighter IV has to offer, then you will not find much extra here to warrant a purchase. However Capcom knows this and has priced this title under the usual full retail price, making Super Street Fighter IV a thoroughly recommended purchase if you have yet to lay some punches in this fourth edition of the series.
PSX Extreme (May 07, 2010)
Super Street Fighter IV is one of those rare exceptions where it's worth double-dipping. The exception is simply because instead of just releasing the same game with 10 new characters, Capcom went back and reworked the balance, added new modes, added bonus stages, redid the storyboards, changed various aesthetic bits and pieces, and on top of that only charged $40 for it all. To me, Super Street Fighter IV is a no-brainer. I urge fans of the genre and the last game to pick this up!
Spazio Games (Apr 28, 2010)
GameTrailers (Apr 26, 2010)
With an expansive cast, upgraded features, and extremely strong online support, it's hard for Super Street Fighter IV to not track on any fighting fan's radar. But even at a reduced price, reluctance to drop cash on this sophomore effort is certainly understandable. Penny pinching pugilists may give pause, but let your fears be dissuaded: Super Street Fighter IV is worth every single cent.
3D Juegos (Apr 26, 2010)
The A.V. Club (May 10, 2010)
There’s a forgettable plot wedged between all the Dragon Punches, but without live opponents, a fighting game’s shelf life is pretty limited. Fortunately, online play is much more robust this go-round. As the arcades die on these shores, SSFIV’s home version resurrects them via Endless Battle, where up to eight people wait their turn in a lobby to topple the current round’s winner. There’s also a greater sense of fun here, even in elements that are old hat by now. The dialogue still sounds like it was written by 8-year-olds playing with action figures, and the AI still gets unfair advantages, but by now, you should know whether that appeals to you. For God’s sake, you’ve had 20 years to make up your mind.
PSFocus (Apr 26, 2010)
That Gaming Site (May 16, 2010)
Super Street Fighter 4 could be the definitive fighting game of this year. Even with BlazBlueContinuum Shift’s home launch this summer, it will keep you hooked with its chess like mechanics, improved online functions and iconic characters.
It's flawed in places, but this is still a game that expertly demonstrates to the rest of the gaming world why Capcom are still considered the kings of the fighting genre. It's no incremental upgrade and brings more than just character balancing to the table, managing to improve, fix and surpass the original Street Fighter IV in every way imaginable - and they've done it at less than full price. This is how you do an upgrade.
Super Street Fighter IV is some of the best value we’ve seen in a game in a long, long time. The already excellent gameplay from Street Fighter IV is here, just further refined and polished into an even more powerful package, and with a boatload of extra content to boot. You’ve also got a new intro which, though pretty superficial, is awesome in its own right anyway, and there’s plenty of new music and audio effects which, though subtle, are much better suited to the game. Capcom seem to have everything that was great about Street Fighter IV and made it even better, then added another extra coat of polish over the things that players didn’t quite like, and put a budget price point as the icing. If you’re any kind of Street Fighter fan, this is an essential purchase, and if you’re on the fence about it, well now’s the time to pick it up, as Super Street Fighter IV simply sets in stone the franchises status as one of the best fighting games around. Fantastic stuff.
Level 7 (Apr 29, 2010)
D+PAD Magazine (May 11, 2010)
Super Street Fighter IV is a celebration of the Street Fighter series that adds a final, glossy lick of paint to the already sublimely polished original and, while it is unlikely to woo new fans, those already hopelessly addicted to Hadōken’s and Tatsumaki-Senpū Kyaku’s will be in their absolute element. Capcom have said that this is the final, definitive version of Street Fighter IV and, despite the lack of that song and (for the moment) a tournament mode…we’re inclined to agree with them.
90 (Apr 26, 2010)
At the end of the day, though, Super is a tremendous update to a tremendous game. It addresses many of IV's weaknesses, subtly tweaks old features so that they work better, and introduces some characters that exceed the high quality bar set in February last year. It is a game tailor made for hardcore Street Fighter fans; if Street Fighter IV didn't float your boat, Super won't either. But if you're a hardcore Street Fighter fan, Super is an essential purchase. It is the best fighting game available on this generation of games consoles, and further reinforces Capcom's dominance of the fighting game genre.
PlayStation Lifestyle (Apr 28, 2010)
When you combine everything that Super Street Fighter IV has to offer, Capcom has crafted a game that you will be challenging your friends and online foes to for quite some time to come. Out of all the fighting games available, the $40 asking price for SSFIV is but a small fee for the premiere fighting game on the PS3. With such a diverse and deep amount of content crammed onto the disc, along with the highly addictive gameplay, this is the fighter that no fighting game fan should be without. Get. It. Now.
90 (Apr 26, 2010)
IGN (Apr 23, 2010)
Even if it doesn't have the same kind revitalizing effect on the genre as its predecessor, Super Street Fighter IV is an easy recommendation. It's the superior version of one of the best fighting games around, offering a huge cast of 35 characters along with a far more developed online suite compared to the original version. The gameplay is fast, fun and easy to dig into, and deep enough so that you're always discovering new ways to chain combos and improve your skills. Whether you're a franchise veteran or a total newcomer, you can't go wrong with Super Street Fighter IV.
Gamereactor (Sweden) (Apr 24, 2010)
Game Informer Magazine (Apr 26, 2010)
When it comes down to core gameplay mechanics, there’s no denying that Super Street Fighter IV resembles the original in almost every way. However, the numerous new characters and greatly improved online options make the game worth a purchase regardless of whether or not you owned IV. Capcom has said all along that there was simply too much content here for it to be released as DLC, and my time with the game has convinced me of this. I put nearly 100 hours into IV, and I can easily see myself pumping dozens more into this update. If you haven’t played IV at all, then $40 is an absolute steal for the ultimate version of the best fighting game in recent memory.
GamesRadar (Apr 26, 2010)
It’s last year’s top-rated game remixed with 10 new fighters and fantastic new online modes, all at a lower price. That’s an incredible deal no matter how you slice it, so if you were somehow on the fence about this whole Street Fighter thing, succumb and find out why everyone’s in love all over again.
GamePro (US) (Apr 26, 2010)
Super Street Fighter IV is just more of a good thing and fans of the original have plenty of reasons to invest in it. But seasoned players who didn't care for the original SFIV won't have any reason to like the update because, despite the improvements and additions, the fundamental gameplay hasn't changed; it might have familiar faces from Alpha and Third Strike, but the presence of those characters won't magically transform Street Fighter IV into a different game. So it boils down to this: if you loved Street Fighter IV, Super is an absolute must-buy; if you didn't, you can save your money for something else. And of course, if you didn't buy SFIV the first time around, consider this $40 package the "definitive" version of the title.
Although it can be hard to rationalize purchasing a rereleased game, Super Street Fighter IV is definitely one that is worth the extra purchase. With ten extra characters, new moves, and an overhauled online mode, this title honestly feels like more of a sequel than just a rerelease. And with an MSRP of $40.00, and the promise of DLC to come this summer (including a new Tournament mode), there is plenty of value to be had with this title. If you are on the fence about repurchasing a game with the "Street Fighter IV" logo, don't be. This is one rerelease that is sure to make you fall in love with the series all over again.
90 (Apr 27, 2010)
Thunderbolt Games (May 07, 2010)
No matter how you may personally feel about Street Fighter IV in general, Super is a marked improvement over last year’s solid iteration; there’s no question that this is the definitive version of Street Fighter IV. With a ton of ‘new’ characters and a vastly improved online component there are a number of great reasons to get back into Street Fighter. With that said, if you’re primarily interested in playing alone (who are you?), there are no longer Survival or Time Attack modes to occupy you. For everyone else, Super Street Fighter IV is a wonderful addition to anyone’s fighting game library and a fitting conclusion to the Street Fighter IV ‘series.’
GameSpot AU (Apr 27, 2010)
Super Street Fighter IV stands tall on the broad shoulders of its predecessor. Its large and diverse character roster, balance tweaks, and comprehensive online play reaffirm its place as one of the best fighters this generation, and it's a worthy upgrade even if you own last year's version. The results are improvements in every aspect of the game, making this a must-have for series fans and Internet brawlers.
9lives (May 01, 2010)
GameFocus (May 20, 2010)
SSF4 is a beast of a game and is an absolute steal for under fifty dollars. All of the new additions blend seamlessly with the existing game and really amplifies the magnitude of the game. From the addition of dozens of new character match-ups to the new ultra meta-game to the pristine online fight mode, Super Street Fighter 4 is a super game indeed.
InsideGamer (Apr 27, 2010)
Game Revolution (Apr 26, 2010)
It’s understandable if you think Capcom should’ve gotten the $60 Street Fighter IV right the first time, so we don’t have to pay another $40 for the Super version. The only thing you get for having SFIV data are brush-like graphical filters for each character, though Capcom has announced a free Tournament mode as DLC to release on June 15th, 2010. But it can also be argued that without the original Street Fighter IV, the Super version would never be, and with all the new additions, encouraging everyone to get the superior version in its entirety is better than splitting the fanbase with multiple DLC add-ons. It’s unfortunate that Street Fighter IV steals much of the would-be impact and innovation from Super Street Fighter IV, but when all is said and done, SSFIV is the best modern fighter in video games today.
XGN (Apr 26, 2010)
