Overall though, this is a superb game that played well ten years ago, and with its new lick of paint and improved controls, still plays well today. Well worth picking up if you like your 3D adventure games, this is one of the all-time greats.

Overall, this is a great retelling of the classic Tomb Raider game. It is a title that is well worth investing both time and money in. If you remember the original then you can visit an old friend. If you missed the boat first time around then here's a rare second chance to get on board. Tomb Raider lives or dies by the quality of its environments and puzzles. Anniversary hits all the right notes in this respect, and, even though you're essentially just going from one tomb to another, there is enough creativity and interest to stop things from ever becoming tired. The scale of the world you inhabit is nothing short of breath-taking. Combine this with the newly tactile Lara and her beautiful new moves and you have a recipe for success.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary is simply Tomb Raider I with the Legend engine. For many it will be a joyfull reunion with a legendary title, not only in its genre but also in the gaming industry. For the younger generation it's proof that games really were more fun back in the days. The devs have changed just enough in the game to make sure you're not feeling ripped off and despite the limitations of the PSP and the UMD-medium they succeed to recreate a large vivid and mysterious world. An occasional drop of the frame rate and a camera with its own will shouldn't stop you from giving this game a chance. Meanwhile the replay value of the title is also high thanks to a lot of things and secret locations that can be explored, as well as a ton of unlockables that are present. Have fun exploring!

I' m sure I'm just opening up old wounds for those who thought I was too hard on the PS2 version of this game, but people need to step back and see that I'm saying Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary is a good game despite any of my gripes. The gameplay is fun and challenging, it looks pretty on the PSP's widescreen at times, and you're getting all the costumes changes, relics and Croft Manor exploits that were seen on the PS2. If you're looking for a solid adventure game, this fits the bill.
GameSpot (Aug 14, 2007)
Tomb Raider: Legend did a lot to make Lara Croft feel relevant again, and Tomb Raider: Anniversary is another step in the right direction. The acrobatic action is consistently exciting and challenging throughout. Thus, despite being a remake, the experience feels new and fresh. This is the best Tomb Raider game in years, and for the first time in a long time, that actually means something.
Game Positive (Aug 29, 2007)
In the end, Anniversary pairs the old with the new well, creating a good game with just enough issues to hold it back from being truly great. The camera is far too unwieldy at times and the enemies are hardly worrisome. However, what made the original so fun, the actual tomb-crawling, is only enhanced in this version. Those who have played the PS2 version should know that you are going to be playing a direct port. PSP adventurers, however, should take heart for that very same reason. Anniversary is not perfect, but it's an amusing diversion, especially on an anemic system like the PSP. Even with its flaws, Anniversary still comes together well enough to warrant a play by those looking for their adventure fix on the PSP.

I’ve talked to countless gamers, and have never met a hardcore fan of the Tomb Raider series. It gained a great deal of fame thanks to the cover girl and the films, but I feel it never really had the gameplay to back up the popularity. Anniversary, if nothing else, is an effective reminder of this.
Gamekult (Oct 31, 2007)
GameSpy (Aug 31, 2007)
Tomb Raider: Anniversary is a cool pick-up for anyone wanting to relive one of gaming's more pivotal releases. While it's a solid enough game, once the feelings of nostalgia wane, you may feel a bit restricted by the game's linearity and the sometimes difficult camera. The lack of any multiplayer options is also a negative. If you can look past those issues, though, you'll be able to experience both the past and the present of the franchise and see why Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider name have been around for so long.

Thankfully, when you die, which will be quite frequently, the loading times are kept mercifully short and don't add to the frustration like so many other PSP games. Did we mention the loading times are alright? They are. The PS2 Tomb Raider is still preferable due to improved camera control, but if you fancy exploring some tombs on the move it's unlikely to disappoint, as long as you're prepared to be patient and suffer the odd cheap death.
