To sum up, don’t be put off by the initially unfamiliar nature of the gameplay, it’s actually really easy once you get the hang of it, and very challenging and absorbing in the long term. In Architect mode in particular you can feel your brain stretching and working overtime to plan where to slot the blocks in order to achieve the objectives, and you’ll most certainly want to keep going and unlocking all available modes and worlds.

That's not to say that a knockoff can't be a worthwhile game in its own right. After all, there's an argument to be made that Lumines owes more than a little bit of its gameplay to the king of the drop-block puzzle games, Tetris. But a good clone of a popular game either adds a significant twist to the original (as Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords did to Bejeweled), or it delivers a similar gameplay experience at a reduced price. Puzzle Scape really does neither. And although you can probably get twenty bucks' worth of fun out of it with a little effort, why wouldn't you just drop the cash on a game that did it better two years ago?
