Real Football 2016 is the follow-up to Real Football 2015, different from the Android / iOS series by the same developer. Just like previous JAVA editions it brings a simplified football gaming experience to smaller screens, with a large amount of game modes, but no licensed teams or players. The game modes for this edition are friendly games and quick play, the Seasons competition, the Become a Pro mode, Local Penalty and Classic. The game has both national and club teams with a global rating based on five stars and individual numbers representing offensive, midfield and defensive strength.
Basic controls include passing, shooting, tackling and so on with a player meter to power up shots. Players also gain strength during the game and with a maxed out bar more powerful actions become available. A mini-map shows the position of all players at all times. The game can be paused for substitutions and new team tactics, but it is also possible to switch between team formations during gameplay. Local Penalty is a game mode where two teams take turns taking penalties. Next to the regular view it shows an additional goal front view. A red dot can be moved to change the shooting position and timing is required to get a moving marker on a bar in the green zone for a good shot. Players can manage a custom team and do transfers. Next to the leagues the cups include a European cup, an international cup and a club cup. In the Become a Pro mode a single player is followed in a league season. He can be based on an existing player or start at a team as a new one. The Skills Lab is a new part of the game with five mini-games to improve a player's skills and dexterity.
