Redhead Redemption is a vertically-scrolling shooter where a girl called May finds her house empty during a zombie apocalypse. Her mom and dad are gone and she takes her baby brother George on her back to escape. Unlike similar games in the genre, the character is near the top of the screen. She runs away from the zombies automatically, who chase her appearing from the bottom of the screen, while George on her back fires automatically. Through tapping left or right, or by using the device's gyroscope, the character is moved left and right, also moving the vertical stream of bullets. Even though May moves by herself, it is not an endless runner, as most levels have a fixed length. The goal is generally to survive until a certain point in the level is reached for her to escape. The game is a collaboration with the entertainment website 9GAG. This is visible through internet meme parodies on billboards prior to starting a level. Some zombies chasing May are introduced with a giant troll face on the screen and then suddenly appear close behind her, instead of running from the bottom of the screen.

Pacifiers in the top left corner represent health. When zombies get too close they grab May and health is drained, while the shooting continues. This can be prevented by tapping the knife melee attack in the bottom right corner, but it has a recharge time and cannot be used constantly. The left side of the screen shows a vertical line with the remaining distance. By shooting zombies, coins (the basic currency) are earned. Each stage usually has three stars based on objectives: survive the stage, finish with full health, and collect five pieces of intel. Intel is gathered by killing fast runners with a blue device on their backs. Certain enemies also leave behind power-ups such as double damage or a speed boost activated by tapping the screen. Coins can be spent on upgrades in four areas: weapons, perks, power-ups and sidekicks. Weapons include machine guns, shotguns, grenade launchers ... with different damage, spread and reload time. Weapons can usually be upgraded multiple times. Perks include additional health, faster speed, additional power-ups slots, a better knife, more backpacks, piercing bullets, extreme mags etc. Power-ups are a speed drink, distraction, a bomb, a burner etc. The sidekicks are different types of cats. They also appear from the bottom of the screen along with the zombies. When May bumps into them they stay with her for a while, firing as well. Levels also have obstacles that need to be avoided and prior to starting a loadout can be defined based on weapons and power-ups.

As a free-to-play title certain items can only be bought with the premium diamond currency. There are in-app purchases for coins and diamonds, but diamonds can also be earned by completing levels in the nightmare mode. Each level has a nightmare variant unlocked by completing the normal level with three stars. Levels are divided into chapters with a different theme. Diamonds can also be earned by watching advertisements or by promoting the game through social networks. The story is furthered through static comic book panel sequences, stored in a diary. Next to the story mode there is an endless mode where May simply needs to survive as long as possible. There are 120 stages in total and the game provides daily bonuses.

Does this game's name ring a bell? If so, it's probably not a coincidence -- we have to hope that the pun on Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption wasn't the developers' starting point, because it's probably not so hilarious a joke as to justify writing an entire game around.
