he latest in the Renegade series is also the best, check it out even if you don’t normally like beat-’em-ups

Probably the best arcade game on the 64 at the moment Renegade III has lots and lots of gratuitous violence spliced with addictive gameplay and mounds of humour. My recommendation is, get it before it gets you.

Addictive gameplay and brilliant (though monochrome) graphics make for a tasty beat 'em up.

ZX SpectrumThe Games Machine (UK) (May, 1989)
Renegade 3 keeps with tradition, which may disappoint fans looking for several new ideas. The omission of a two-player option could have been a mistake, but would invariably have made the game far too easy - as it is it plays at just the right level.

Colourful, highly playable and addictive - that's this version in a nutshell.

[Budget re-release] Overall, The Final Chapter is a spiffy swansong for the first-flailing vigilante. The only question is, where does he go from here? (Home to bed, I'll be bound!)

Four levels might not sound a lot, but there's heaps of baddies to bash in each zone - it'll take plenty of perseverance to rescue the girl. The graphics are great, with beautiful hi-res sprites, colourful backdrops and the brilliant sound. A definite must-buy for fans of joystick-controlled violence.

Commodore 64Your Commodore (Sep, 1991)
This game looks good, and the sound effects and music fit in really nicely. If you didn't like the previous Renegades, then don't worry. This isn't really much like them at all. I'd this was worth buying if you're looking for a decent budget game.

The standard beat 'em up formula gets a bizarre fantasy twist – and it works!

Unfortunately, while this looks really smart (the sprites are incredibly detailed), Renegade III's gameplay is frustrating, mainly because your bloke is very difficult to control accurately. Even more annoying is the fact that the smallest enemies are the hardest to beat because low punches are most difficult to use!

Just keep moving and fighting, and jumping the odd spike trap or pit. Boooring. As I've already said the graphics are pretty good but the awkward and unresponsive controls make it a bit of a chore to play.

The action is very similar to the previous game: enjoyable but undemanding. It has been a good series of games but hopefully this is the Final Chapter.

Finger weg!
