Samurai Shodown V Perfect, the newly-released game in this compilation, was the stuff of rumours before this compilation was released. According to a tweet thread by compilation developer Brandon Sheffield, it was a skunkworks operation by a team of developers during the development of Samurai Shodown VI. Feeling they hadn't quite finished what they meant to do in Samurai Shodown V Special, they fixed various bugs and issues in the original game while also implementing a new story mode with stories for every character. It was given a brief location test in a single location, but was pulled as soon as higher-level staff at SNK found out and was never released. For years, a few blurry photos of its title screen were all that were known to exist. Luckily, a copy survived and was able to be included in this compilation alongside a brand-new English translation.
