Defunct Games (Jan 28, 2006)
Boy oh boy I loves the shooter games! While the ship-modification aspect of these games is either poorly employed, or none too oft, it is always a welcome addition when it is done well. Transbot succeeds in this field, providing several ways to accessorize your vehicle, and several different firepower configurations. However, as is usually the nature of the shooter, the difficulty may be too much for someone looking for a game requiring little time to master.
Happy Computer (Nov, 1986)
Sega Does (Sep 21, 2014)
Despite the game’s repetitious nature, TransBot is still an improvement over Orguss. The action is much faster than the latter game (more than two enemies on-screen at once? I do declare!), and the varied power-ups add some spice to the potentially bland proceedings. It’s a shame Sega couldn’t have thrown in a couple extra stages, but as early Mark III/Master System shoot-em-ups go, you could play a lot worse.
Tilt (Dec, 1987)
1UP! (May 27, 2016)
The Game Hoard (Feb 16, 2018)
TransBot truly is one of the most basic of old space shooters, choosing not even to embrace the one aspect it really had going for it. Most of its weapons are too similar and not very enjoyable, and the more interesting ones are discouraged if you actually want a change of pace from the monotony of the first level so you can add the monotony of the second level to the rotation. No weapon is so bad that you can’t handle what you’re facing, but the power discrepancy does mean you’re really good if you have the robot weapons and you’re aching for them if you’re stuck in the starfighter mode until you can find another truck to rob.
40 (Oct 18, 2004)
Transbot is a fun-for-five minutes game, that should have been much longer. If there were only a a few more levels, some different backgrounds and a few different boss characters thrown in then all could be forgiven. As it stands playing Transbot is just dull and ultimately pointless.
The Video Game Critic (Dec 28, 2012)
The uptempo music is nice, but it loops until you're sick of it. Transbot is an outdated shooter that will leave you asking, "is that it?!"
