Legendra (May 07, 2005)

It's the combination of things that Final Fantasy III does so well--the multiple stories that it tells and experiences that it offers--that makes it not only a defining moment in the series, but an important piece of role-playing history.
Retrogaming History (Dec 05, 2008)

Of all the many, wonderful RPGs to grace the SNES, the best of all was Square's Final Fantasy VI, released in the U.S. as Final Fantasy III. It delivered on all levels, and set the bar so high in some regards that it still has not been surpassed to this day.
Final Fantasy III remains a must-play, even in today's age of polygons and FMV. Don't miss it.

RPG enthusiasts, pen-and-paper dungeon masters and hardcore role players will all be thrilled with this new adventure. It's a good thing this Fantasy isn't Final!
Final Fantasy III is possibly the best game on the Super NES, and certainly one of the top ten console games of all time. Those who haven't played it yet, should, and those who have, should go back and play it again. You won't be disappointed.
Some games have "intangibles" that make simple ratings like "sound", "graphics", blah, blah blah just sit there not contributing to the overall experience. Final Fantasy III is the best role-playing game ever made, but there are times when the graphics simply don't impress and the encounters are annoyingly incessant. Despite this, it is good enough to give a TEN, something I only do when I can say a game is in the top 5% of all the games I've ever played. It's a magnificent game.

If I were forced to found any downpoints that are really worth complaining about, I'd be very hard pressed to do it, the translation is really the only legitimate gripe I have (ex: We've gotta get to Narshe on the fly!) And there's just so much more, near-death special attacks that I haven't even seen all of (and I've played through 6 times), hidden chocobo stables, lots of fun extras to keep you interested. A truly classic rpg.
Gaming Target (Aug 16, 2006)
When all is said and done, this game is one of my personal favorites. Granted, I know there are better games out there- I’ll even rate some games higher than Final Fantasy III, but there’s something about the game’s quirky appeal that still brings me back year after year. This game is a definite must have, and if at all possible, avoid getting the Playstation version. While it has some great CG cutscenes, the SNES version loads faster, has no slowdown and the sound is much crisper and cleaner. So stop reading this review, go to your local used game store (or eBay), and pick up a copy of Final Fantasy III today.
Game Players (Oct, 1994)
The bottom line is simple: if you're only going to buy one SNES game this year, make it Final Fantasy III --- you're gonna need it to live.
Nintendo Land (Sep 13, 2003)
Final Fantasy 3 is THE RPG game for all rpg fans out their but also to patience players that wants to try something different than all the american made action, racing and sport games. FF3 is THE RPG OF ALL TIME so stop reading and go buy it and become as engulfed by it´s story and great graphics as I am!
Consoles Plus (May, 1994)
RetroGame Man (Dec 29, 2015)
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Final Fantasy 3 even though it was on the easy-side. It had a compelling story, memorable characters, and open-world gameplay in the later part of the game that made it a joy to play. The excellent music was icing on the cake.
Nintendo Life (Nov 22, 2009)
There's certainly no denying what Final Fantasy III did for the RPG genre outside of Japan during the 16-bit era, and while the Chrono Trigger vs. Final Fantasy III debate still wages on, you can't help but appreciate how epic and enthralling a quest Squaresoft has been able to come up with for this sixth release in the series. Sure there might not be quite as much variety in the combat system as that of Chrono Trigger, but it's still a fairly big step up from that of Final Fantasy II, and ultimately an RPG adventure that's everything a good sequel should be and more. If you've somehow never played Final Fantasy III in any of its various forms over the years, you truly owe it to yourself to experience one of the best releases the series has to offer. And if you have played the game before, perhaps it's time to relive the magic all over again.
Cubed3 (Oct 15, 2004)
Looking back up at those score you might have guessed the final score. However, as you should know by now, C3 is not about 'averages', so FFIII US misses out on the elusive '10' rating as it does not quite reach perfection. What it does do, though, is manage to break its way into the Top 5 RPGs of all time! This was one of Squaresoft's defining moments, so be sure not to miss out on it at any cost.
New before have I seen a game with this much depth and detail. Few RPGs can hope to have the emotional draw this one has. The graphics and sounds blow away all other RPGs. This is the new standard. The Mode 7 scenes are pretty cool, albeit a little pixelized. If you've ever wanted an epic story and lots of hidden things to find, Final Fantasy III is a must. It's almost a 10. Its going to be near impossible to top this.

Have no fear, character development is the only real problem in this game. It is by far one of the best games for the SNES, and ranks among the best Final Fantasy games ever. Own a SNES? Buy this game, somehow, somewhere, for any price. Don't own a SNES? Emulators are better than nothing, I guess.
