The Game Hoard (Dec 22, 2017)
Super Mario World lands right in the sweet spot of what a 2D Mario platformer should be. Plenty of variety, fun power-ups, accessibility, and a game that is packed with little touches that make it more than just a typical Mario Bros. game.
The DOS Spirit (Mar 21, 2011)
Løp og last ned!

The Video Game Critic (Nov 21, 1999)
The "world" is huge compared to previous Mario games, with a nice variety of settings including my favorite - haunted houses! A battery backup allows you up to save up to four games in progress. High in quality and super fun, this should be standard issue for all SNES owners.
While it's not quite as groundbreaking as Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World is more fun than any of its predecessors. And that's what really matters. That, and the fact that it helped to introduce the Super NES, which went on to sell over 20 million units in the U.S.
The dictionary definition of "Killer-App" would probably read Super Mario World were it not just a geek's term for a bloody good game.
HonestGamers (Jan 13, 2004)
Like most Mario games, it has a knack for capturing us and taking us away for hours, days, weeks at a time. The three on the NES all had that uncanny ability to make the real world disappear--but SMW is most ambitious in replacing the drab everyday with its own blue and white world of flying dinosaur friends and other childlike fantasy. SMB3 came close in terms of expansiveness; perhaps it could have been the first true Super Mario land--but SMW will be the world to you.
PGNx Media (Jul 07, 2002)
Mario went into the 16-bit dimension and he made all of his fans smile once again for the second straight year... Super Mario World is either the favorite of the old Mario games or the least favorite. Rarely there is anything in between. Even if the game is your least favorite, though, the game is at the top of the ranks, which is extraordianry. The game redefined everything we thought we knew about the Mario games and put in a little variety and a new character, Yoshi, who is now one of the most beloved Nintendo characters ever.
Cubed3 (Oct 15, 2003)
As you will be aware of by now, Super Mario World is set on an overworld map. Nice and simple every time you complete a level you get to move onto the next one, until you've uncovered the path to get all the way over to Bowser's castle. Of course it isn't quite that simple. Many of the levels have 'secret exits' which require you to do various things in the level to discover. For example Ghost houses often hide a secret exit somewhere inside that just needs to be found like a normal, but other levels may require you to find a key then an exit. This adds another layer to the game, finding all the exits in the game, as stated earlier is quite a tough little challenge, one that you will be rewarded for as well… Well that's about it, all that's left is to go and play the actual game, enjoy it all of you.
The graphics are absolutely brilliant, with some fantastic visual gags (the look of surprise on a nasty's face when it's grabbed by the dinosaur is hilarious) and the marvellous music (complete with honky-tonk piano samples) really shows what the Super Famicom's PCM sound chip can do. Quite apart from all that, the gameplay is just so addictive, you'd better be prepared to stay stuck to your screens until you've completed it! Overall, a totally fantastic game - what more can I say?

You can't miss this one - it's the ultimate intro to the gob-smacking world of the SNES!
Video Games (Jan, 1991)
Retroage (Dec 29, 2012)
This one BIG game it has around 75 different courses for you to complete! Mario also gets a new tool the Cape. With the cape Mario can fly using a special technique. A must buy for all SNES owners!
N-Force (Nov, 1992)
Still one of the best platform games available and it's absolutely free when you buy an SNES.
Retroguiden (Aug 13, 2010)

Here you have it! The ultimate Mario adventure! Super Mario World is a perfect subtitle, with 96 areas to explore! Everything just plain blew me away! Only one game in this genre rates higher in my book, but since tens are impossible, Sonic will have to share the same rating.
Overall, Super Mario World added something for each thing it removed, and it provided a fun experience in the process. If it weren't for Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World would easily reign supreme as the best 2D Mario platformer in existence (and I count New Super Mario Bros. in that statement).
VideoGame (Oct, 1991)
Super Mario World, ou Super Mario Bros.

All in all it’s a frickin' good game hey, especially at the price I got it. Okay, maybe it’s not Nintendo’s best, and people will argue that SMB3 is better or whatever, but I think this is the second best Mario game ever, bettered only slightly by Yoshi's Island: Super Mario World 2... damn I love that game.
In the end, it’s simple – if you enjoy Mario-style platformers, you should own this game. If you don’t already have it on the SNES or GBA, the Virtual Console version is just as good (and arguably ever so slightly better), and this game deserves a spot in your library.
Play Time (Sep, 1992)
Entertainment Weekly (Sep 27, 1991)
Mario bops his enemies, eats power mushrooms, crawls in and out of drainpipes...all the things he's been doing for the past five years, and in settings not remarkably advanced, graphically, from those of previous eight-bit games. Super Mario World amounts to advertising, a vehicle intended to show off the capabilities of the Super NES as well as goad brand- conscious kids into buying the system in the first place.
