Space Panic wäre für beinahe jedes andere Videospielsystem ein großer Wurf; bei CBS-Colecovision zählt das Spiel zum — allerdings immer noch spielenswerten — Mittelmaß.
If you thought Donkey Kong was the first game to use ladders, guess again. In 1980, Universal unveiled Space Panic— the first ladder/obstacle course video game. After a short run in the game rooms, Space Panic has returned— this time as a ColecoVision cartridge. Although Space Panic is one of the lesser known titles in the Coleco library, it stands out as one of the best looking and most challenging games Coleco has offered to date.

Where retro score attack games are concerned, Space Panic is not the greatest I've played. It is, however, a very enjoyable title that's worth a check for folks who dig old school "kill 'em all" style titles. If you've got fifteen or so minutes to kill and you'd like to spend it watching predatory vegetation from space slip through spacious cracks in the floor, then give the game a whirl.

Either way, Space Panic is an underrated game with a fair amount of strategic possibilities and an interesting premise.

Une fois encore, vous avez été expédié sur une bien curieuse planète. Des fraises diaboliques se déplacent sur des murs reliés entre eux par des échelles en essayant de vous attraper.

Coleco had resurrected several short-lived arcade games and transformed them into home favorites, but they should have let Space Panic rest in peace.

Space Panic doesn't make a lot of sense to me, and it plays like Dig Dug in slow motion. Sure it's challenging, but that's mainly due to the flaky controls. For some reason you can't dig when in close proximity to a ladder, which severely limits your options. There are some pleasant musical effects, but the graphics are downright boring. I've heard some gamers defend this, but Space Panic did not appeal to me at all. The instructions contain an extra piece of paper with "Additional tips", a sure sign that customers were having difficulty grasping the concept.
