Dementsprechend zieht mich alles, was einem Lichtschwert ähnelt, magisch an.

Quibbles and gripes aside it's safe to say Star Wars fans have had to often put up with worse, with last year's abysmal Lightsaber Duels immediately springing to mind. The biggest flaw of Republic Heroes, other than its generally unlikable source material, is that it feels unfinished. As a result, poor execution mars what could have been a likable child-orientated platformer. The kids, and their parents, will be more than happy to stick with Lego Star Wars.

Even if your child runs around the house, yelling, “I love Snips!” this title’s frustrating gameplay will be a hard sell. If you have such a child in your household, I would do everything in my power to ensure they never catch wind of this game. Moreover, I would correct the “I love Snips” error through Clockwork Orange-like viewings of the original trilogy.

Xbox 360Vandal Online (Oct 13, 2009)

Whilst there is a lot of room for improvement, a lot, there is enjoyment to be had especially for a younger gamer in short bursts. The problem comes when the genre is saturated to its current level, with some fantastic gaming experiences to be had. Due to this reason Republic Heroes would be best left to fanatics or only those that have already done the better competitions game and are looking for that next fix. Either way, may the force be with you.

Xbox 360MS Xbox World (Oct 11, 2009)
Perhaps the younger gamers who are fans of the show will find something worthwhile here but the shallow gameplay will deter most. The lack of variety in the combat, the level design and the almost statue like enemies result in a dull single player game that is only helped a little if playing with a friend. The story does seem to be of a reasonable standard, but that is a small positive. If you are a die hard fan of the TV series and think you can put up with the average at best gameplay, then it probably won't be the worst game you play but don't go into it with thoughts of epic space battles or waves and waves of enemies to feed your light sabre as the action rarely gets exciting.

One thing I will say, though, is that my six year-old remains undeterred by the fact that his love of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been abused so wholeheartedly by the design of this game. He still wants to keep playing and gets excited whenever a new Jedi joins the story; he still wants to play through every level and unlock every bonus. I'm sure he's not alone in his passion for The Clone Wars storyline, and that kind of unconditional love should command more respect than this effort shows.

A few years ago at a trade show, I was speaking with a representative of a publisher. When I told him that I reviewed games, he immediately asked if I was fair to kids' games. I guess they were concerned about adult reviewers bashing games meant for a younger audience. I agree that it's important to be fair to children's games, but I also want to be fair to the kids. Recommending Republic Heroes wouldn't be fair because it's simply a bad game, even for children. For parents who are looking to get their little Star Wars fan a present, steer clear of this one.

Xbox 3603D Juegos (Oct 09, 2009)

Children will certainly get something out of this game, however there are a lot better, fun games out there that they will enjoy more. Unfortunately Star Wars: Clone Wars is lacking in the imagination and general playability of better games such as the Lego Star Wars series and therefore I would find it quite hard to recommend this to anyone other than the most ardent fans of the series.

Xbox 360Meristation (Oct 09, 2009)

For some of us, Star Wars never grows old, in spite of the constant barrage of media and merchandise the Lucas empire has been throwing at fans for almost 30 years. But I sense a disturbance in The Force. The padiwans are getting one poorly conceived adventure after another, and at this point, it's really hard to convince anyone that LucasArts isn't merely going through the motions each time they set out to make another new game. Republic Heroes for Wii shouldn't be scrapped altogether, though. The clone missions have some promising elements that could likely be fine-tuned into something really entertaining. Until that time, however, fans of Star Wars should probably stick with playing one of the LEGO games.

WiiKombo.com (Nov 03, 2009)
The intended audience for Republic Heroes is going to be much more forgiving of the flaws than older Star Wars veterans. The only way to play this game is co-op and even then some of the flaws will be overpowering. Remember this game doesn't have the older gamer in mind and be sure leave this one to the smaller Star Wars super fans.

Xbox 360Impulse Gamer (2009)
Although I desperately tried to like this game, unfortunately the buggy, almost unfinished gameplay made things a very frustrating and annoying experience. It could of been great, however the lack of true Q&A makes this another Star Wars game that will go down the canals of history of the one that missed the mark. It's a shame, because the computer animated series is the perfect foundation for a decent game.

Unless you or your kids want to play as Jedi or clone troopers just for the sake of doing so, then there's really nothing here that'll keep anyone, young or old, interested for very long. Even if it does, you or your kin are bound to be frustrated at numerous sections and will likely wind up putting down the controller sooner or later. If you want a good family-oriented Star Wars game, you're still way better off with the LEGO Star Wars titles.

Xbox 360TeamXbox (Oct 15, 2009)
Republic Heroes does utilize drop-in/drop-out co-op locally and online, so, as with similar such titles, you’re likely to find its more fun battling through with a buddy. There’s also tons of bonuses, upgrades and collectibles to earn. While both these elements make the game’s many shortcomings a bit more tolerable, their inclusion makes me wonder why LucasArts didn’t just turn this license over to Traveller’s Tales. While another formulaic LEGO entry wouldn’t exactly feel fresh, it would have at least offered a reliable romp, while also allowing the Clone Wars’ characters to shine through that franchise’s blocky charm. As is, this one’s lack of polish and annoying gameplay will likely have you ejecting it from your X360 and reaching for your copy of LEGO Star Wars.

Whether you've got a friend playing with you or not, Republic Heroes likely won't hold your interest the entire way through. Sure, the game is fairly long, but every level feels the same as the last, as you kill wave after wave of the same few droids types and continue to fight with the game's biggest challenge: its poorly implemented platform jumping. Being able to play as both Jedi and Clone Troopers was an interesting idea and one that I think could have worked, I only wish it had been tried in a better Star Wars game.

These aren't the droids you're looking for. It's hard to recommend Republic Heroes, especially to the 10-and-older crowd. The Clone Wars is easily one of the least entertaining parts of the Star Wars mythology, Yoda's constant tongue-tied tutorials are more troublesome than a Dagobah skinny-dip, and the whole game feels like a pale imitation of the superior Lego series. The tiniest of caveats can be cut for the young Padawans infatuated with the show. The plentiful checkpoints, character options and couch co-op will appeal to the Jedis-in-training who have the gumption to force their way through it, but for everyone else, this game's midichlorian count is about on par with the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special.

WiiWorth Playing (Oct 21, 2009)
Sadly, Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes for the Wii is just the latest disgrace in the rapidly diminishing "Star Wars" franchise. The gameplay is a mess from start to finish, and the muddy visuals and terrible writing don't help things a bit. Furthermore, the game breaks itself by allowing players to access a cheat menu and use in-game points to purchase exploits, such as one-hit kills and invulnerability, during the very first playthrough. Forget any sense of challenge; simply pony up 200,000 points and you're invincible, which throws any form of strategy right out the window. Maybe George Lucas is trying to make Siths of us all because games like this lead to anger, and as we all know, anger leads to the Dark Side. Don't succumb to evil and stay far away from this game.

I get the feeling that development on Star Wars: The Clone Wars may have been rushed to coincide with the release of the second season of the show, which is kind of a shame because there is a lot potential in the concepts behind it. But a family-friendly game really needs to be accessible to kids first and foremost but still fun for adults as well, which is what made the Lego Star Wars games so much fun to play. But all the platform follies you’ll face playing this game take away that accessibility. I think if they’d been given another month or two to put another coat of paint on this one, we may have seen something really fun that would’ve pleased fans of all ages. As it stands now though, the Dark Side of the Force clouds everything.

In the game's defence, hearing the voice actors reprise their roles from the animated series will help convince young Clone Wars fans that what they're playing is the real deal, despite the fact that the dialogue, especially Yoda's, is terrible (hearing Yoda say “Droid-Jak” is particularly soul destroying). And while the graphics are uninspiring and bland, they're at least designed in the same Cartoon Network anime style as the show. But these slight positives are unceremoniously blasted into oblivion by the unresponsive controls and awful platforming. It's obvious that adult gamers should avoid Republic Heroes. But, more damning, it's also impossible to recommend it to anyone wondering whether they should buy it for a young fan of The Clone Wars.

To simply state that Krome Studios should have worked harder to replicate Traveller's Tales various successes is perhaps to undermine what the LEGO developer has achieved. Good game design for children is difficult and demands not only diligence and inspiration at the planning stage, but also an awful lot of observation of how children react as they play. Right from first touch, it's clear that Republic Heroes hasn't undergone nearly enough of this sort of testing, and the uninspired foundations are further compromised as they are built upon. As a result, this is a product that will make children frustrated and unhappy, the very opposite of that to which Star Wars should aspire.

LucasArts may have turned a page lately, but it's still got its cheap and nasty tie-in days bookmarked.

Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes feels like a cheap cash-in to milk the Star Wars franchise around Christmas time. Kids will no doubt want it as a gift since they love the show, but they’ll be left disappointed and frustrated with the terrible platforming and tiresome combat. It’s just poorly designed and feels rushed for no apparent reason. I encountered myriad glitches during my time, including one game breaker, so it’s difficult to recommend this to anyone. The Jar Jar Binks of Star Wars video games, if you will.

Even if you do like the cartoon, though, I urge you to avoid Republic Heroes. Its basic design philosophy is one of laziness and glossing over problems rather than really putting out the effort to make a decent game. That's a bitter pill to swallow for a kid who just shelled out 50 bucks of lunch money.
