Stargate: Resistance is an online, 3rd person shooter based on the science fiction television series Stargate: SG-1. As the war between the Goa'uld and Earth's Stargate Command rages on, players can jump in and join the fight for galactic supremacy.
Choose one of two Factions: the "good guys" (Stargate Command) or the "bad guys" (the System Lords). Each Faction has 3 classes with unique abilities, skills and weapons. For SGC, those are Soldier, Scientist and Commando. The System Lord classes are Jaffa, Ashrak and Goa'uld. The gender of the class members is preset with all being male except for Scientist and Ashrak, who are female. Players can advance in rank as objectives are reached and achievements earned.
Gameplay is team-based and PvP (Player vs. Player). A maximum of 16 players can be involved in one game at once (8 per side). At the time of release, there are 3 "worlds" (Earth/SGC, Piramess/Whiteout, and Amarna/Temple) and 3 game modes (Team Deathmatch, Capture the Tech, and Domination).
Keyboard keys and a mouse are used together to control the character and use weaponry. The game offers text communication between teammates, but does not include in-game voice chat.
Immediately after the release of the game, parent company Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment filed for bankruptcy. In May 2010 the foundation of Fresh Start Studios, LLC was announced, an entity based on a joint venture agreement in March 2010 to deal with the funding issue, unpaid wages and creditor issues for the game. In the same month the development and maintenance of the game was tasked to Dark Comet Games, LLC - a studio founded by the original development team behind the game.
