Commodore 64Your Commodore (Jan, 1985)
The graphics in this game are of a very high standard with detailed high resolution backdrops and excellently animated sprites. Overall this is an excellent program and is probably the best 'Olympic' program available.
Commodore 64Home Computing Weekly (Nov 20, 1984)
This is streets ahead of the others in graphics, animation, realism and originality. It is however rather overpriced.
Commodore 64TeleMatch (Aug, 1984)
Atari 8-bitMicro 7 (Nov, 1984)
Atari 2600The Video Game Critic (Jul 25, 2016)
Still, Summer Games is an impressive technical accomplishment and a lot of fun. And I love the idea of playing an entire Summer Olympics in under ten minutes.
Atari 7800The Video Game Critic (Sep 15, 1999)
Overall, Summer Games features two great events, three good ones, and one that's just fair. You have the option of playing one, all, or some of these. The running and swimming events allow you to go head-to-head against another person, which always livens up the action. I was disappointed that there's no closing ceremonies, but overall Summer Games is a great sports title.
Commodore 64Info (Sep, 1984)
Summer Games adds some dimension to the Olympic games theme. The element of strategy is incorporated into 4 of the 8 events in a limited way. A reserve energy meter makes you pace your relay runner. The gymnasts can earn more points by opting for a harder routine. Still, there is some wiggling and joybutton tapping used to propel athletes along. The figures are drawn with higher resolution, but are not "Incredible" as Epyx claims. A floating sight represents the shotgun in skeet shooting, and divers seem to go off the screen, not into the pool.

SEGA Master SystemVideoGame (Jun, 1991)
Vamos a elas!
Atari 8-bitThe Video Game Critic (Oct 13, 2008)
I will give the game props for saving all world records (to disk) along with the player's initials. You can configure the game to use two joysticks, but when players are not going head-to-head, you still have to share a joystick, which makes no sense. Summer Games does show its age at times, but if you're looking for some back-to-basics Olympic action, you will love this. Note: An enhanced version of this game was later released for the Atari 7800.
SEGA Master SystemPlayer One (Sep, 1991)
Commodore 64Commodore User (Dec, 1984)
This really is something special. Summer Games is also the most original of the Games games - as it involves more than simply yanking the living daylights out of your joystick. The graphics really have to be seen to be believed. Eight brilliantly animated events plus an opening ceremony with white doves flying up into the sky and eighteen national flags for you to choose your favourite country.
Commodore 64Popular Computing Weekly (Sep 27, 1984)
The success of the game comes from its spectacular graphics.
SEGA Master SystemVideoGame (Jan, 1992)
SEGA Master SystemSega Does (Apr 10, 2017)
Summer Games is a surprisingly pain-free experience. Even though I wrestled with the pitch-perfect timing required to clear Pole Vault and Gymnastics, I do believe they can be won with enough time, patience and luck. Meanwhile, the 100m Dash, 100m Freestyle, and Platform Diving have a more subdued challenge. You can get a decent score without much trouble, but to get a good score, you’ll have to practice. When it comes to the sports minigame genre (such as it is), I’m more of a Track & Field man, but Summer Games is still the best in the Games series.
Atari 2600Woodgrain Wonderland (May 05, 2018)
I would really like to give Summer Games a better rating because – some questionable control schemes aside – it’s technically very good from an audiovisual perspective. Personally, though, I prefer the funkier sports in California Games (also by Epyx) and the winter games in, well, Winter Games.
SEGA Master SystemMean Machines (Oct, 1990)
I'm a huge fan of California Games, and I had high hopes for the rest of the Games series. However, World Games was just average, and things have taken a turn for the worse with Summer Games - it's terrible. The graphics are small and have little detail, and the backdrops are bland beyond belief - surely there was scope for some amazing animation here. The gameplay is very dull, most events requiring simple button-bashing to succeed, and those that don't are easily mastered. Even if you're a big fan of sports simulations, you'll more than likely find this very disappointing.
SEGA Master SystemSega Power (Dec, 1993)
This is a multi-player sequel to World Games. The limit action relies heavily on strict joystick moves.
SEGA Master SystemPower Play (Oct, 1990)
