Just like you’d expect, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is the complete package on the Switch. It’s a straightforward port with a couple add-one that don’t feel stapled on, but as always the real draw is having a game on a console with more staying power and appeal than the Wii U offered. If you’re not familiar with Captain Toad then definitely check this out, but if you had the game on Wii U then you’ve probably already made up your mind about if you’ll be migrating the recent ports over to the Switch. Either way you cut it, this is a great game and a definitive port.

So yes, if you want a cute little puzzle game to sink a couple of dozen hours of relatively enjoyable gameplay in to, by all means, pick up Captain Toad. It is a solid game well worth the price point. But it is mostly meant for the hard core Nintendo fan or the younger crowd. Older gamers will mostly breeze through the game in little time with nothing else to go back to. It really is a one playthrough wonder. After your initial 20 hours or so of play time, you will only go back to play the really engaging maps and that is it.

Way Too Many Games (Jul 13, 2018)
To sum it up, this version of Captain Toad is basically the same game you’ve already played on the Wii U. There’s no reason to replay it if you have done that the first time around and there’s nothing too exciting to justify a full-priced purchase if you haven’t. It’s a good game that oozes an irritating amount of charm, but this is far from being one of Nintendo’s best titles out there.
GamingTrend (Jul 23, 2018)
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is fundamentally strong with a solid core idea and great level design, but doesn't succeed beyond that. A more cohesive atmosphere, extra camera options, and deliberate mechanical progression could’ve made the experience far more satisfying. The conversion to the Switch brings along its own problems as well, making it hard to call this version definitive. As it stands, the game is a fun but forgettable adventure.
