As it stands, this is probably one of the most in-depth game collections I’ve ever seen. I can’t think of one that showcases a developer with more love than this, and while there are some games I would’ve liked to see be a part of this, there’s so much here that’s done right that it’s hard to complain. Different versions of the games, a comprehensive museum of information and imagery, emulation features such as save states and rewind, and additional control schemes make this the gold standard for future game collections.
Classic game compilations don't get much better than SNK 40th Anniversary Collection. Its selection of games, well done presentation, and oodles of cool features and extras make it a must-have compilation for any retro gamer.
This SNK collection isn’t for everyone. Fans of the company’s fighting games or overall Neo Geo outings might find this assortment of titles a bit off-putting, as it features everything from RPGs to old-school shooters. For those who are curious about the company’s early years, as well as those who are just into regular retro gaming in general, SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is one charming little package full of gaming history, as well as some underrated gems and even more free content to be included later on.
Without a doubt, SNK 40th Anniversary is probably the strangest collection of retro and classic games I have ever spent time with. Overall, the package bounced around with me having feelings of fun, intrigue, disappointment, and confusion all at the time time. The added items, such as artwork and promotional material, were interesting. While some of the games were fun, the strange yet thankfully free DLC game additions do make the package seem overall incomplete and just thrown together all to quickly. Even the most die hard of SNK fans may have a hard time justifying this collection at its current price tag, and may be better off with a price drop.
