If you like music games and want a good challenge, I highly recommend Vectronom. A snappy soundtrack that bleeds into the gameplay incredibly well, simple controls and aesthetic, and plenty of goals to chase, it’s an interesting and unique snapshot of a modern rhythm game.
Ascoltatelo, guardatelo, toccatelo.

The only downside of Vectronom is that it should only take a few hours to complete. Each beat of this experience is so jam-packed and the gameplay concepts switch up so frequently that I would love each one to be explored more. Don’t let that stop you from exploring what’s here, though — this gem is a design feat and one of the most delightful platforming games I’ve ever played.

Vectronom is one of the best console puzzlers I’ve played over the last few years, even if it’s one I doubt I’ll return unless there’s some DLC that adds extra levels or modes to the game. While it has Super Hexagon’s satisfying frustration, Vectronom lacks its high score rush to keep me coming back.

Critical Hit (Jun 04, 2019)
As much as I would have liked the experience to be a touch longer overall, I wasn’t disappointed when I completed the last course. That’s the beauty of rhythm games; even when the levels are done, you’ll still go back to them because moving the beat is just so much fun. All I’m saying is that I really wish this game had come out in 2016. If it had, I could probably have survived the Hellish experience that was History and Appreciation of Music and not been forced into taking Latin.

Vectronom is an adrenalin-pumping, mind-bending experience which provides a fun challenge for the duration of its relatively brief length. Thanks to that brevity and the slap-you-in-the-face presentation, Vectronom is a fantastic palate cleanser to enjoy between meatier offerings.

Vectronom is well made and attractive. It's got a strong sense of minimalist style, and as difficult as it is, it's also entirely fair, and once you've learned its rules and behaviour, it becomes comfortable, albeit difficult, to play. At the same time, this game crystalises some issues with how rhythm games as a whole handle music, and while its various stages are well designed enough, there's nothing truly memorable in there. It's an indie game that wears its heart on its sleeve, but unfortunately also struggles to stand out as anything but a textbook example of an indie title.
