If it has to be you versus these big city greaseballs and junkyard dudes — bring them on! They won't come at you one at a time, so its a good thing you can be quick and mean. Go to it, Vigilante! Or never see her smile again.

Brave the streets of New York City in this side-scrolling beat-'em-up game. Thugs kidnap the beloved Madonna, and it's up to players to become vigilantes. Players fight their way into enemy territory to get her back. Enemies attack with weapons like iron pipes, chains, guns and motorcycles. To fight back, players can punch, kick or use the "nunchaku" item that appears in the stage. Players must use each of the attacks effectively to defeat their enemies. To clear a stage, defeat the boss that waits at the end. Players fight their way through exciting stages that include the City Streets, Junkyard, Brooklyn Bridge and the Backstreets.

NEW YORK 1994 ...... The police dare not patrol the streets. The army cannot control the city. Law and order no longer exists. ...... When street gangs dominate a city. When ordinary citizens no longer defend themselves for fear. And when law enforcement agencies are powerless to help. Your last chance is ...... VIGILANTE ...... THIS TIME IT'S WAR

NEW YORK 1994 ...... VIGILANTE ... CETTE FOIS-CI, C'EST LA GUERRE!

As the Master once said, "No punch can hurt if you don't feel pain." Remember that - because Vigilante pits you against some of the toughest thugs that the sewers can produce.
They're skinheads, and you've had trouble with them before. But now they've kidnapped your woman. You've warned them more than once not to mess with you, but they don't seem to get it. So now you have to show them.
Skinheads are big into brute force. They don't have much choice - the brain activity going on below the scalp is about the same as the hair activity going on above it. They'll come at you from every side, wielding clubs, knives, chains, and guns - you have only your fists and your numchucks for protection.
Most guys wouldn't have a prayer, but your different. You're quick. You can dodge a kick or sidestep a motorcycle - at the same time you take out its rider.
And you've got the stamina to fight them wherever they go - through city streets, in the junkyard they call home, across a bridge, even from the naked beams at the top of a skyscraper.
Sure you're putting your life on the line. But, hey, this is worth it - it's for your girl.

Vigilante kicked, punched, jumpkicked, and nunchucked its way into arcades in 1988 and then onto the TurboGrafx in 1989. The game was originally created by Irem, known for their hit video games like R-Type, and In The Hunt. In fact, Irem created the first arcade beat-em-up, "Kung Fu Master", in 1984, although you probably know its NES port better, simply known as "Kung Fu". While Vigilante was not an official sequel, because its gameplay feels a lot like Kung Fu, it's a sequel in spirit. You can play this classic side-scrolling beat-em-up today on your Wii™ Virtual Console™!

You ARE the Vigilante. Your girlfriend, Madonna (no not the REAL Madonna, at least we think it’s not the real one), has been kidnapped by a vicious street gang, and you’re her only hope of being rescued from somewhere deep in the bowels of New York. Follow the trail through the city, through junkyards, and across bridges. Waves of gang members will try to drop you, so you better watch out for tough guys with chains, cowards with guns, and crazies on motorcycles! The only weapons you have are your fists and your feet, except for the occasional nunchuck you may come across. Battle through the city and through 5 rough-and-tumble boss battles! Unlike other Turbo games released around the same time, which were known for their high level of difficulty, Vigilante was easy to pick up and play without it being too overwhelming. You’ll probably never see the original arcade again after all these years, so download Vigilante for the Wii™ Virtual Console™ today and save Madonna before it’s too late!
