Time Crisis: 2nd Strike is the second game in the Time Crisis series released for iOS. It is the successor to the spin-off Time Crisis: Strike and acts as a prequel to Time Crisis 4. While Time Crisis: Strike was largely a reworked version of an earlier mobile port, this game is entirely new with more features. It consists of a prologue and then three episodes unlocked gradually, with each mission split up in a number of smaller vignettes and ten stages in total. The player controls Giorgio Bruno, a member of the intelligence agency V.S.S.E. His mission starts when he needs to rescue Walter Burns, the Director of DARPA, who has been kidnapped.
The game retains the core gameplay. With a limited amount of time Bruno needs to take out enemy soldiers with dynamic camera swoops determined by the computer. Enemies on the screen need to be tapped to shoot them and Bruno quickly needs to move between cover and open positions. The cover position is used to reload and the character is also invincible then. Next to graphic improvements compared to the original game there is now also voice-acting, more gameplay elements and busier scenes, and four types of guns instead of just one: the handgun, the machine gun, the shotgun and grenades. When they are available it is possible to switch between them by tapping the corresponding icons near the bottom of the screen. Ammo is earned by progressing through the scenes. There are often mission updates during gameplay.
There is a competitive mode to go for the best scores (Score Assault Mode) or times (Time Attack mode). Just like in the first game additional Crisis missions can be unlocked. The game supports the iGunCon app where an iOS device can be turned into a wireless gun controller. Regular control schemes are touch optionally combined with tilting the device to move between positions.
