It's a very exciting game to play, it's as if you were really in battle. It's very challenging and also very entertaining. I have not yet put it down since I have gotten it. Once you start unlocking different maps, and weapons things become a lot more entertaining. If your looking for a good Xbox game that rules, then I suggest getting Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon.
WindowsNetjak (May 06, 2002)
Games come and go in the gaming world. FPS are a dime a dozen, and few capture the interest of hard-core gamers. Games such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor: Allied Assault simply can't hold a candle to the fire that burns from Ghost Recon. Red Storm has produced one of the best games ever. I give my 100% approval of this game, and recommend this to any hard core experienced gamer.
MacintoshMac Gamer (2003)
Despite a vaguely antiquated feel to the story line, the mood developed by the makers of Ghost Recon goes far beyond the simple reactionary skills required by such "twitch" games as Quake. Apprehension and anxiety stalk your every move. Gameplay is solid and varied, even in multiplayer environments. Once the current community shifts their perspective toward the more subtle inter-dependency of squad based play required by Ghost Recon, gameplay should mature in some very complex and tantalizingly ways. My initial reluctance towards squad-based play has been completely reversed and Ghost Recon now ranks as one of my top games to play.
WindowsGamezilla (Dec 04, 2001)
I was very skeptical before I received this title, considering how much hype this game received before publication. After several hours of play, I can honestly say the game meets, if not exceeds, all the expectations the hype engendered. Richly designed and well-balanced gameplay, adding new squad-based and tactical interfaces to an already complex style of play, Ghost Recon is the thinking man’s shooter. With hours of single player fun, the game is only enhanced by the sheer amount of multiplayer enjoyment possible. There are a few things I would like to have seen in this game: the ability to jump and the ability to grab ammo from dead opponents. Vehicles, while prevalent, weren't available to be controlled, just destroyed. Those small things aside, I am pleased with this game. This title looks to be the most popular FPS this year and with good reason. It scores a high 90’s and two thumbs up from me!
XboxGameZone (Nov 27, 2002)
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon is an amazing piece of work that is worthy of being in any die-hard gamer’s library and since it can be played online, there is nothing really more to say then: Buy this game immediately. With its entertaining game modes, great graphics and multiplayer options, you can’t go wrong.
Xboxgames xtreme (Jan 07, 2003)
Overall the game is a great strategy squad based shooter, and should provide plenty of atmosphere, satisfaction and fun for anyone with an Xbox, though those who can take advantage of the system link facility will benefit the most.
WindowsIGN (Nov 09, 2001)
Simply put: do not miss out on this one. The single player missions and multiplayer modes are more than worth the time you invest. There are a few minor problems with it (and you still can't jump or pick up other people's weapons) but in all, the game is highly polished, marvelously fun and unexpectedly believable.
XboxGame Freaks 365 (2002)
There is only one other game that is exactly like Ghost Recon, and that is SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs on the rival PS2. This is the Xbox's counter to SOCOM, though a watered-down version of Ghost Recon is also available on the GCN & PS2. People who like to use strategic maneuvers to get through a game, this is the type of game you should pick up, now. The game has 15 missions with many unlockables. Ghost Recon has 20 hours of game play, matching SOCOM.
XboxWorth Playing (Dec 17, 2002)
In Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, you are invited to lead this brand-new squad as they focus on covert military strikes and international peacekeeping missions that do not always go as planned. You and your team conduct extensive missions on foot, but you’ll occasionally have assistance from troops in tanks, helicopters and close air support. In many cases, you will be working with international military forces and NATO to fight against rising dictators and rebel groups.
XboxGamersMark (Feb 25, 2003)
In Ghost Recon you really get a great sense of military action, and the intense, gruesome realism of war. You hear bullets ricocheting off of barrels, and guns firing from all directions. You could honestly mistake this game for a high budget feature film, of course, that is if you’re over doing it with the LSD.
XboxConsoles Plus (Dec, 2002)
MacintoshMacworld (Mar 01, 2003)
If you enjoy 3-D action games such as Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Quake III: Arena but find that the nonstop action leaves your brain wanting, then Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is an excellent choice.

WindowsPC Zone Benelux (Nov, 2001)
XboxXBox Solution (XBS) (Dec 14, 2002)
When I first heard about Ghost Recon, I never thought I would end up getting it because I’ve never been good at Tom Clancy games. However with Ghost Recon I found myself immersed when playing with others on Live. It was so unlike many of the games I have played before. There was no overly glorified heroes; no menacing looking evil monsters; just the real thing. This game takes patience and tactics and if you think you can just run in with guns blaring you’re as good as dead. This game rocks.
WindowsGame Informer Magazine (Feb, 2002)
As the realistic military-sim genre progresses, we the people of the United Gaming State reap the benefits. Red Storm has done some impressive things with the Rogue Spear series, but let’s just say it also left a lot of room for improvement. Ghost Recon has taken cues from what Rogue Spear did well, and adds a lot to fill in what it didn’t. One of my major qualms with the Rogue Spear series was that the graphics reminded me of a good-looking PS-X title. GR looks like you’ve stepped into the environment right beside your squad, and the character models are beautifully designed. Gameplay wise, things take a bit of getting used to, but for all intents and purposes, this is a highly detailed first-person shooter.
WindowsSvenska PC Gamer (Dec, 2001)
XboxIGN (Nov 13, 2002)
Ghost Recon is not for everyone. It's slow pace, one-hit kills, and ugly graphics may turn off some gamers, but those willing to put some time and effort into the game will find a rewarding first-person shooter.
WindowsFiringSquad (Jan 24, 2002)
And yet, on a purely technical level, Ghost Recon does seem to have the better combat. Sniping, team control, and teammate AI are all done better to one degree or another. Ghost Recon is not necessarily more realistic, but it gives the player a great sense of accomplishment and doesn’t leave him thirsting for acknowledgement of his heroic actions. In Ghost Recon, you are the hero, the special ops leader who can change the tide of a war. In Operation Flashpoint, you are a grunt swept along by greater forces, who just happens to be in position to get a few lucky shots in. The comparison is inevitable and which you may prefer is up to you, but on its own or put beside Operation Flashpoint, Ghost Recon is a great game.
86 (Sep 15, 2002)
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is one of the best tactical first person shooters I've ever seen and in my opinion it even surpassess Operation:Flashpoint. It will be hard to find better.
WindowsGame Over Online (Dec 31, 2001)
If you have any remote interest in tactical first person shooters and realism, you will not be disappointed with Ghost Recon. However, unlike in 1998, Red Storm has a lot more competition to deal with this time and only time will tell whether Ghost Recon will have as much staying power as Rainbow Six did.
XboxNetjak (Jun 24, 2003)
Ghost Recon occupies an interesting niche in the Xbox lineup. Most mainstream gamers may find it a bit too realistic for their tastes, but for gamers weaned on Red Storm's previous efforts, or those who enjoy the concept of a hardcore military sim, Ghost Recon is just what the doctor ordered
XboxGame Informer Magazine (Dec, 2002)
Ghost Recon on the PC was a major leap forward for developer Red Storm, so it’s no surprise that ports are now showing up on the consoles. Since it is a port, I was expecting a downgrade in both play mechanics and graphics. Surprisingly, there is very little graphical degradation that I could detect, and the control scheme has been shunted over to the Xbox controller with a decent amount of effectiveness. True, the map/order-issuing system is sloppy at best, but it seems to me like the developers did the best they could with the buttons they had to work with.

WindowsGame Chronicles (May 29, 2002)
While this game may not appeal to the button-mashing, rocket-jumping, Quake veteran or those looking for a mindless FPS title, anyone looking for a serious military simulation won’t want to pass this title up. And now that the game has been re-released in the Game of the Year edition you can get this game and the Desert Siege mission pack for a great price.
XboxXbox Gazette (Dec 09, 2002)
WindowsActionTrip (Nov 23, 2001)
If I had to describe Ghost Recon in just a few words, I'd call the game a Rogue Spear modification with a simpler and more intuitive interface, and the type of gameplay that was seen in Delta Force and Operation Flashpoint - wide-open spaces, lots of vegetation, and plenty of shooter searching. Ghost Recon is best described as Red Storm's attempt to rival the success of the aforementioned titles. Rogue Spear and Rainbow Six were primarily focused on CQB, while Ghost Recon relies mostly on its outdoor missions and the fact that most of the firefights occur in open areas, like: jungles, fields and wide city boulevards.
XboxGameSpot (Nov 26, 2002)
You wouldn't expect a game like Ghost Recon to make the transition to a console very well. After all, its slow pacing and realism give it a distinct PC flavor. And yet you'll have no trouble controlling the action, thanks to the few but key changes that were made in the Xbox version. Additionally, Ghost Recon makes excellent use of the Xbox Live service, giving it replay value well beyond that of its PC counterpart. In a crowded genre of similar action games, you'll undoubtedly find Ghost Recon to be a welcome addition to the Xbox library. It would have been nice if the game had updated graphics and better squad AI, but as it is, this is a great game nonetheless.
WindowsPC Games (Germany) (Dec, 2001)

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is one of the most fun and challenging games to be released for our favorite platform this year. Combining stealth, quick reflexes, group leadership, over-average artificial intelligence, great attention to detail, and tactical gameplay that's second to none, the designers over at Red Storm have managed to create a game that is engaging and enticing for gamers of every kind. Check out the demo - I think you'll enjoy it.

Finally, Ghost Recon is a game that those who enjoy the genre may relish; especially in multiplayer mode and for creating mods. It is not however the finest game in the genre, nor is it without it’s flaws. Good but not great.
WindowsGameStar (Germany) (Dec 05, 2001)
WindowsGameSpot (Belgium/Netherlands) (Nov 27, 2001)
XboxGameSpy (Dec 25, 2002)
Ghost Recon turned out to be a very nice surprise. It features not only fun single player but very fun online multiplayer, a nice and seldom-duplicated balancing act. If you're an Xbox owner jonsing for a little of that PS2 SOCOM action, this is just the ticket. And if you have both systems, the Xbox version of Ghost Recon is an order of magnitude better than the PS2 edition. It lacks the PS2 version's extra levels, but Xbox has online play and just about everything else is better, too. Bottom line? Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon should satisfy action fans looking for something a little more thoughtful than Unreal Championship.
WindowsGameplay (Benelux) (Nov 30, 2001)
XboxGame Chronicles (Dec 31, 2002)
Ghost Recon recently celebrated its one-year anniversary and what better way to celebrate than with an excellent port to the Xbox. The timing couldn't have been better either, as Microsoft launched their Xbox Live online service the same week this game hit stores. Ghost Recon has always been about multiplayer and teamwork and the Xbox is the perfect console to bring this action to your living room.
80 (UK) (Jan 27, 2003)
Ghost Recon is a fantastic port - and unquestionably best on Xbox - but it suffers in part thanks to last century's tech and in part because pathetic team killing gits thrive in the current Live community. We would recommend it to fans of the PC game with Live access, because you deserve a decent online version of it, and it's definitely among the finest tactical blasters we've encountered. But if you enjoy scratching braindead insignia into train windows, hurling abuse at passers by and nutting your friends for a cheap laugh, then please go away and die instead.
PlayStation 2Gamereactor (Sweden) (May 07, 2003)
80 (UK) (Dec 06, 2001)
Ghost Recon is a decent step for tactical shooters, but more to the side than forwards. It relies far too much on a standard formula throughout, without providing a large enough level of variation in the missions. The complete reversal from indoor to outdoor action is an impressive move to begin with, but you soon begin to want more intimate contact with your adversaries. The atmosphere and action (when there is any) is superlative however, and will provide a decent couple of months gaming for fans of the genre.
MacintoshmacHOME (2003)
The multiplayer element is loads of fun and highly addictive, with the cooperative missions gaining our endearing stamp of approval. Simply put, if you enjoy a challenge this game's for you.
XboxX-Power (Feb 18, 2003)
WindowsSuper Play (Sweden) (Dec, 2001)
WindowsGame Informer Magazine (Feb, 2002)
The firefights are lightning-quick and very intense. The details in the landscapes are also something to sit back and gawk at. The most noticeable improvement, at least for me, is the variety that has been implemented into the missions. Rather than forcing players to run according to protocol, freedom has been granted to experiment with different strategies.

Ghost Recon is a "hobby game," one that you have to spend a lot of time with to master, especially if you plan to take it online to play against other humans. Still, with its simple yet deep user interface and relatively new way of looking at and using squad-level combat, it's well worth the time of those willing to invest in it.
WindowsUOL Jogos (Jul 25, 2002)
WindowsFactornews (Dec 20, 2001)
And the point is...
GameCubeGame Informer Magazine (May, 2003)
Ghost Recon is a great game – on PC and Xbox. Unfortunately, the GameCube version is pretty far removed from those two, lacking in online, system link, and other key features. The core gameplay is still here, however, and is very cool. Missions require a good amount of both planning and action, and switching characters on the fly really helps (especially when teammate AI breaks down). This is a tolerable fix for Medal of Honor fans, but Ghost Recon will struggle to find a place with GameCube’s core demographic.
WindowsGameSpy (Dec 01, 2001)
It makes a bold attempt at realism, but super-smart enemy AI and inconsistent gaming conventions make Ghost Recon a much rougher trip outdoors than it could have been.
PlayStation (Feb 06, 2003)

Ghost Recon is another fine Clancy shooter, and should satisfy fans of the series while remaining accessible enough to win a few new fans as well. But it's not quite forward-thinking enough to be remarkable, only a solid game that is perhaps a bit too similar to the previous Clancy games. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Raven Shield.

With more attention to detail, better character skill development, improved Al, and no bugs, Ghost Recon could have been this year’s best tactical sim. Don’t get me wrong—this game is enjoyable, especially for tactical combat nuts. It just doesn’t fulfill its awesome potential.
PlayStation 2Power Unlimited (Dec, 2002)
PlayStation 2GameZone (Dec 20, 2002)
This game has some problems that deter it from being an involving Clancy/Red Storm title. The Rainbow Six games were much better at team controls, and while the scope of mapboards may not have been as large, the game play was more immersive. This title does have challenge but also delivers its share of frustration.
GameCubeGameZone (Mar 05, 2003)
Overall, I must admit that I did have some fun playing Ghost Recon, and when things worked well it was an enjoyable experience for me. My wife even mentioned (when things weren’t going completely goofy) how intense and into it I looked when she came in to see what I was up to. Unfortunately, I’m going to have to recommend a rental to all of you action, FPS, or Clancy fans out there regardless of what you may have played in the past or what you are into. I applaud UbiSoft on a cool idea and something a little different, but the downers in Ghost Recon unfortunately may kill the enjoyment for a lot of gamers out there and probably won’t warrant the $50.00 purchase for many of you.
PlayStation 2GameSpy (Dec 25, 2002)
The only real bright spot in Ghost Recon for the PlayStation 2 is the extra content it features over the Xbox version. Eight exclusive single player missions, five (really boring) "boot camp" levels and a plethora of production materials are available to partake of. Alas, it's really hard to care about these things when the actual gameplay is in all ways inferior to that of its Xbox brethren. Multiplayer, control, graphics, HUD, you name it -- the PS2 version loses. Even if you ignore the Xbox version it's not very good. If you've got both systems, by all means seek out the great Xbox version.

Another wound to the game is that there?s no online component like in the PC and Xbox versions there's only a dull, two-player split-screen game. Still, with 23 missions in the single-player mode, Ghost Recon is a decent squad-based shooter to try just don't expect the quality to be the same as that of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs.

Furthermore, the GameCube version of the game doesn’t allow the player to control more than three teams and tells you exactly where enemies are situated with a radar and a cursor that changes color when it passes over an enemy, which makes the game less about strategy and more about who hits who first. This is made even more simple by the fact that one shot, any shot, kills. While enemies can occasionally take two or three hits to bring down one of your men, I’ve toppled numerous opponents with a single shot to the foot. In short, the term “Team-based strategy FPS” hardly seems accurate, since your teammates don’t act like a team and the element of strategy is shaky at best.
GameCubeGaming Target (Mar 21, 2003)
Ghost Recon is a tactical squad based shooter where you’ll be given command of two teams of three, as opposed to the PC’s three teams of three, where you can assume the role of any soldier and issue orders to your squad from an in-game interface and eliminate the forces of evil as covertly as possible. Before each mission, the player will be given a choice of operatives based on the mission objectives. You will need to outfit the squad with the appropriate weapons and equipment to deal with any surprises or threats that the mission will entail.

PlayStation 2GameSpot (Jan 15, 2003)
Ghost Recon for the PlayStation 2 is simply not a very fun game. Its unchallenging gameplay mechanics, substandard graphics, and lack of any real multiplayer modes make it the worst iteration of the game yet. If tactical first-person shooting is your game, SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs is a much better choice on the PlayStation 2.
GameCubeGameSpot (Feb 28, 2003)
Those GameCube owners who've been waiting patiently for a decent tactical first-person shooter might want to consider renting the game.
GameCubeGameSpy (Mar 05, 2003)
This game isn't all bad, though -- just frequently so. There's an incredibly detailed training section to wade through which should instantly familiarize the player with the nuances in the game. Of course, these nuances take a backseat to popping caps into the stupid AI rebels with a machinegun and ignoring all other plans of action. This is because Ubi Soft has proudly ruined, sorry, I mean "tweaked" the gameplay from the PC predecessor by adding an auto-aim feature and a new zoom target.
GameCubeIGN (Feb 18, 2003)
As in most other Red Storm/Tom Clany titles, players can choose to dive headfirst into Ghost Recon via its standard training mode firing range. It's nearly the exact same training mode featured in the remarkably poor The Sum of All Fears GameCube title that recently shipped to stores, but with a slight twist of lime. Whereas The Sum of All Fears was based more in S.W.A.T.-style counterterrorism, Ghost Recon has its roots in the camouflage of standard issue U.S. Army BDUs. It replaces the highly trained special forces in Fears with the highly-trained grunts in Recon, but manages too also keep consistent the many nagging gameplay and technical flaws afflicting its Cube brother.
PlayStation 2IGN (Dec 10, 2002)
Some reactions to the PS2 version have focused on the lack of online play -- myself, I consider that a pretty minor point. I found the PC version's single-player game more than enough value for the money, and the PS2 version provides the Desert Siege expansion campaign along with all of those missions. There's also a substantial archive of DVD-style extras covering the making of the game -- dedicated Red Storm fans might actually want to grab the PS2 version just to get those, if it drops down to a budget price any time soon.
PlayStation 2Game Chronicles (Dec 30, 2002)
Normally I don't see games get this butchered unless they try to go to the Game Boy Advance. What was once a proud and shining title has now been stripped of everything that made it great. Gone is the strategy, the difficulty, the intensity, and worst of all, the online component that keeps PC gamers playing even today. Ghost Recon is a great game on the PC and the Xbox, but the PS2 port in no way represents the true potential of this title. Avoid it at all costs.
