Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a majored version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. Gameplay is the same as the previous game with a new system called X-Factor, which has added and consists to increase the strength, speed, and health recovery of the characters for a short time and 12 new characters: Frank West, Nemesis, Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, and more are added in this game.
In addition to the 38 characters (counting Jill Valentine and Shuma-Gorath) included in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 added 12 other characters. In alphabetical order and by series, they are as follows:

According to publisher Capcom, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has sold 1.2 million copies worldwide since its initial release (as of June 30, 2016).
Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami
The material included in this game was originally scheduled to be released as DLC for Marvel vs. Capcom 3; however after the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami and health issues concerning the staff of developer Eighting, Capcom decided to release the remaining DLC as this game, and added additional content and rebalanced gameplay. The two DLC that had already been released for Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Jill Valentine from Capcom's Resident Evil series and Shuma-Gorath, remained applicable.
