When Bugs Attack

When Bugs Attack is a single player, arcade style shooter from Webfoot Technologies, it bears a striking resemblance to their game Bug Attack.

In this game the player takes on the role of a killer bee and fights against an invasion of ants, bugs, wasps, spiders and so on. The bee is at the bottom of the screen and generally moves left/right while continually shooting. It is possible for the player to advance some way into the game arena, this is necessary because, occasionally an insect will traverse the bottom of the screen and must be avoided because the cannot be shot, and also because occasionally one of the deceased insects will leave power-ups behind.

In the game arena are insects which are to be avoided and shot to score points as well as obstacles such as rocks which cannot be destroyed, flowers and fruit which can be destroyed but score no points, and barrels of explosive which destroy everything nearby.

Ants and other insects approach from the top of the screen and make no attempt to dodge the players shots. In the early levels the enemies approach in a single column, as the player progresses the difficulty increases and more columns descend at the same time. Every few levels or so there is a bonus round in which a large number of single insects come down the screen, these score higher than the average insect.

The game has a high score table which only allows three character names. It also allows the player to both disable the sound effects and/or the music. and also disable the background image and/or the game arena's 'floor'.
