Wind Waker HD is full of charming, colorful characters, plenty to explore and some of the best dungeons in the Zelda series to date. It’s still one of the strongest titles in Nintendo’s venerable franchise, and perhaps one of the few that has aged gracefully. Despite the lack of anything major changes to the game, the update to the visuals and the GamePad options are enough to make this one of the best games you can purchase for the Wii U. Hopefully this trip back to the past is a good sign for the future of the series.
Darkstation (Oct 18, 2013)
What impresses me more then the visual/gameplay updates is the fact that Wind Waker HD still can compete with any new game on the market today. The story is charming, the characters warm your heart, and the game remains as one of the best 3D adventure games to date. With the lack of killer software on the Wii U, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD is one of the only great games currently available to date.

A gorgeous, whimsical adventure that's worth owning a Wii U for.
RetroGame Man (Oct 12, 2016)
Overall, this is my 2nd favourite Zelda game next to a Link to the Past. While it might be a slight be shorter than most Zelda games, its fun all the way through, feels extremely fresh, and looks and plays like an absolute charm. Few games are a fun to play as this one.
DarkZero (Oct 10, 2013)
For anyone who has never played The Wind Waker, this HD release is one that you must own for your limited (for now) Wii U library. It’s a charming experience that has been improved visually and mechanically to make for a better game. The Wind Waker HD comes across as a game created from this era is a testament to how well the title has held up over ten years. As for fans, revisiting the magical world of The Wind Waker feels like a trip down memory lane, but without any of the unpleasant mechanics you’ve forgotten about. It might not be the system seller Nintendo are after, but if you want to sail the high seas with Link again, then there is no question that The Wind Waker HD is the best and most satisfying way to do that, and at the same time sets a good benchmark for what we should expect from HD re-releases.

Link's journey across the great sea has never been so vivid, so brilliant or so convenient. This is the definitive version of a classic, and if you've played it before or not, it deserves your attention.

Viel Spaß auf hoher See!
Chip Power Play (Nov, 2013)

New Game Network (Nov 12, 2013)
The Wind Waker HD is a fantastic addition to the Wii U library, and certainly one of the best on the system so far. The graphical overhaul is gorgeous and the gameplay tweaks make it well worth revisiting this classic. If you're new to its delights, then you really have no excuse to pass it up.
Digital Chumps (Sep 18, 2013)
Beautiful, fluid, and tactfully modernized, The Wind Waker HD heavily preserves its base while adjusting the ingredients when absolutely necessary to correct the original’s most glaring imperfections. The result is a ten-year old game that feels new, especially if you’ve never played the original—in which case this would be a great time to consider it. Despite some missed opportunities to further improve upon the 2003 classic, this is still the definitive version of the game.
Destructoid (Sep 18, 2013)
Indeed, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker suffers from some archaic mechanics, its fundamentals not having aged quite so gracefully as its aesthetics. Its unwieldiness and occasional sluggish pace can, in fact, grow temporarily infuriating. However, the streamlined menu system and map access go some way toward making up for any setbacks, while the unmistakable Wind Waker charisma ensures you won't ever stay mad at it for long.
Mash Those Buttons (Oct 16, 2013)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was a good game when it came out, but its issues with sailing and busywork made it impossible for me to love. I couldn’t see past those issues to the solid game behind them, but Wind Waker HD has cleared that up for me and let me enjoy this game. It let me savor the beautiful artwork and animated characters, to really feel what Link was feeling without him saying a word. It let me feel this connection with the most cartoonish, unrealistic Link in a way that the other Legend of Zelda games have never been able to pull off. I really felt connected with this adventure, could really internalize the feeling of childish wonder at all of the beautiful things in this world.
The Video Game Critic (Jun 10, 2014)
Wind Waker HD occasionally shows its age, but it's still a remarkably well-designed adventure that's worth replaying. And if you haven't played it since the original release (11 years ago!) it'll be like playing it for the first time anyway.
Gamekult (Sep 18, 2013)
Diehard GameFan (Oct 14, 2013)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD sails its way onto the Wii U, making itself into the definitive version of the game to play. The presentation is top notch, and the Swift Sail makes the traveling less of a chore and more of an invitation to explore. Miiverse integration makes for a welcome addition and while I would have preferred a retooled version of the Tingle Tuner, it was certainly not worth keeping in its current form. Hero mode provides replay value beyond the core game, though there’s plenty to see and do even without it. If you haven’t indulged yourself in Wind Waker yet, this is the version to do it with.
