Destructoid (Oct 23, 2011)
Although polished to modern standards, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land carries the spirit of the 16-bit era in its heart, bringing one back to a time when games could be bright and happy without feeling the need to serve two scoops of cynicism at the same time. This is the kind of game you could once find in abundance on the SNES and Sega Genesis, now refined to a distilled and ultimately superior form. Videogames simply do not get any more pure than Kirby’s Return to Dream Land.

Kirby’s Adventure Wii is a resounding success in every single area. From the gorgeous visuals to the infectious soundtrack, through to the ingenious level design, impressive new weaponry Kirby has to hand, the extra challenges thrown in to please veteran gamers, and the four-player drop-in/drop-out option. Those eagerly awaiting a high quality successor to Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards need look no further. Another spectacular side-scrolling platform game to grace Wii.
Nintendo Life (Oct 24, 2011)
Kirby fans have been waiting a long time for a return to the classic Kirby experience, but after playing Kirby's Return to Dream Land, it's perfectly clear that the wait was well worth it. Not only are the colourful visuals absolutely stunning, but the classic gameplay, although a tad on the easy side, has never played better or featured more variety. And when you take into account how much additional content has been included, not to mention the engaging multiplayer mode, you end up with what is easily one of the most well-rounded Kirby titles ever crafted and the old-school Kirby adventure fans have been dreaming of for years.
NintendoWorldReport (Oct 23, 2011)
Kirby's Return to Dream Land is a very fun, classic game that delights in its streamlined, simple appeal. The gameplay avoids most of the conventions associated with modern day platformers, especially Wii platformers, but the new additions and ideas are placed tastefully without getting in the way of the classic feel of the franchise. There are plenty of things to do in the game, and the difficulty actually rewards skilled players for their tenacity. This is one return you will want to experience before the year runs out.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land is pretty much the exact Kirby game we all wanted. Sure, his animal companions aren't involved (seriously, Nintendo, bring them back), but the same gameplay that made Kirby Super Star so much fun back in the 90s is present and accounted for. Add a whole bunch of powers, a fun cooperative multiplayer, and an inexpensive price tag, and you have a recipe for a great Kirby game. This is a fine game to see the Wii out on, or at least hold us over until Skyward Sword comes out next month. If you are a Kirby fan, you simply won't want to miss out on this one.
Game Informer Magazine (Oct 23, 2011)
While it doesn’t have the challenge of Donkey Kong Country Returns or the charming art style of Kirby Epic Yarn, Kirby’s Return To Dream Land is another formidable entry in a line of great side-scrolling Wii platformers.
Worth Playing (Oct 24, 2011)
Kirby's Return to Dream Land remains a solid but simple game in the series. Though the real challenge lies in collecting everything to see the true ending, the game remains easy to finish, especially with the new abilities. Multiplayer is a blast, and the different character choices give it some replayability for those who want to experience the game from multiple angles. The sound is excellent, and while the graphics could be a tad better, the amount of post-campaign content available after collecting the required amount of orbs gives the game some legs. Platforming fans will have lots of fun with this title as long as they understand that they may wrap up the main quest sooner than expected.
Vandal Online (Nov 26, 2011)

Cooperative play, meanwhile, makes this game a great social gaming experience. And while things never get particularly hard, playing with multiple players makes boss fights that much easier. Dedicated players will be able to make it through the main stages in a few nights, but collecting all of the spheres hidden within them -- which are required to unlock bonus modes and features -- will take a lot longer. It’s not groundbreaking, but it is well crafted and a lot of fun.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland is a pure joy to play, and while it's not as enterprising as 'Epic Yarn,' it stays closer to the Kirby of old that we remember. Best yet, you will be smiling the whole time you rummage through the eccentric land of Pop Star. Add in 4 player support and you go a great game for the family that doesn't involve wiggling your whole body (just your arms.) Kirby we love you, don't stop now little puffer, you're on a roll.
GameSpot (Oct 24, 2011)
For those who've grown accustomed to the numerous creative surprises woven into Kirby's past few outings, Return to Dreamland's old-school-oriented approach may not be as dazzling as Kirby's Epic Yarn or Kirby Mass Attack. It makes up for this with tight gameplay that is as absorbing as it is adorable. The addition of seamless multiplayer does bring something fresh to the table, and Kirby's handful of new abilities add an extra touch of comedy and silliness to the mix. You won't find much trailblazing action here, and the challenge is a light one for most of the way until you unlock the tougher game mode by completing the story. Still, there's enough charm on tap to satisfy diehard Kirby fans and younger players.
IGN (Oct 24, 2011)
Kirby is not necessarily for you or me, but for our children, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. It is a whimsical, charming adventure that has clearly been designed for a younger audience first and others second. That's not a bad thing, but it does come with limitations. It's a little frustrating that Nintendo couldn't have aimed for both audiences at the same time, and I know when I was a kid I would have killed for the harder challenge, but you can only fault the game so much for that.

Kirby's Adventure Wii isn't bad, but set next to last year's Donkey Kong Country Returns, or even Ubisoft's zesty Rayman Origins, this winter's other other platformer feels very vanilla by comparison.
