But while Actionloop Twist has strong presentation and depth of content, it's the controls and Quest mode design that elevate it to essential status. The Wiimote is a precise and intuitive tool, even if you sometimes risk twisting your arm off trying to snap to the next target, the lob move is a well-measured introduction and the difficulty curves upwards in an acceptable arc that will keep the best players coming back for one more go throughout Quest mode's 60-level duration - 20 levels per difficulty. It even has a witty end sequence. Between Quest, Challenge and the Multiplayer elements, there's plenty here to justify your seven quid. It might not have made it as a full-price game, but then - like puzzle games on the DS - it feels right at home at this price on a download service like WiiWare.

We're of the opinion that Magnetica Twist offers one of the finest puzzle experiences currently available on WiiWare. Having said that, the lack of online and controller issues make it difficult to recommend. If you like your puzzle games you might be advised to pick this up, but genre sceptics might be persuaded to wait for the inevitable release of Tetris, which promises to feature a robust online mode. As it stands, Magnetica Twist is a solid puzzler that is packed with content but is unfortunately marred by controller hiccups.

Whether you know the game from its original Puzz Loop name or by PopCap's "skirting the intellectual property" Zuma release, developer Mitchell's design is a fun little action puzzler. Nintendo gave it a new title, Magnetica, on the Nintendo DS more than a year ago, and the publisher's continuing that branding on the Nintendo Wii with Magnetica Twist. This WiiWare edition keeps the core gameplay but offers a new way to control it: by twisting the Wii remote for the 360 degree shooter action. For the most part it works and works well, but you'll have to put up with a bit of awkwardness in motion and pacing.

Actionloop Twist translates the addictive nature of the Nintendo DS game perfectly onto Wii, implementing a clever motion-control mechanic that makes for some very fast and frantic gameplay. With lots of modes on offer, including plenty for more than one-player, this proves to be one of the best puzzle games on the WiiWare service so far. The only thing lacking is any sort of online element…

Magnetica Twist is a simple and fun puzzle game that is easily worth its 1000 point (or $10 in people money) price tag. With better controls, it would be an incredibly solid WiiWare title, but as it stands it’s simply a good puzzle game that will keep you entertained for a little while.
