True Game Headz (Nov 24, 2009)
“New Super Mario Bros. Wii” has been a long time coming, and it’s well worth the wait. Whether you’ve been jumping around as Mario for 25 years, or you’ve never picked up a controller, this game epitomizes what a lot of games today are missing: simplicity. “NSMBW” is easy for anyone to pick up and jump right into, so there’s no excuse for anyone that owns a Wii – everyone should play this game.
The Video Game Critic (Nov 29, 2009)
One major new feature is the ability for four players to participate at once, but while it sounds great on paper, the characters tend to knock into each other, making it difficult to execute jumps. It's very chaotic and I really wish the players would "overlap" each other instead. Oh well, you don't throw away a Cadillac just because it has a dent in it! New Super Mario Bros. Wii proves that graphics are only screen-deep, but classic gameplay is timeless. The 3D Mario games were terrific, but Nintendo has finally given us what we've wanted all along. Take note Sega!
100 (Nov 24, 2009)
Side-scrolling Mario platformers are the gold standard of gaming, and this title does not disappoint. Consider it highly recommended, particularly to long-time Nintendo fanatics.
1UP (Nov 13, 2009)
Ultimately, though, the greatest compliment you can pay NSMB Wii is that it feels like the perfect expression of the classic Mario style: It's the true sequel to Super Mario World we've been clamoring for all these years.
Blend Games (Nov 29, 2009)
Still, as far as 2D Mario games go, I have to say that New Super Mario Bros. Wii is really only a few itty bitty steps behind Super Mario World in its overall scope and vision. Be that as it may, that’s still saying a lot that I could even come close to comparing the two since Super Mario World is unquestionably the greatest platform of all time, with only New Super Mario Bros. for the DS even coming remotely close to it. Well, New Super Mario Bros. Wii comes even closer to being the best 2D platformer ever. And just like I whole-heartedly believed Super Mario Galaxy was the best game of 2007, I’ll have to again wave my flag of allegiance to Nintendo and say that New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the best of 2009. New Super Mario Bros. Wii, quite frankly, is one of the greatest games ever made and it’s on the Wii. Who’da thunk it? Pick this game up now if you own the console. You really have no excuse.
GamesCollection (Feb 09, 2010)
Con New Super Mario Bros.
NintendoWorldReport (Nov 18, 2009)
But the complaints above amount to nitpicks. This is New Super Mario Bros., not Super Mario World, and on its own terms New Super Mario Bros. Wii holds its own. As both a platformer and a party game, for both casual and enthusiast gamers, Nintendo's latest Mario game delivers in spades.
Worth Playing (Nov 27, 2009)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii may not be as innovative as Super Mario Bros. or Super Mario Bros. 3, but it stands on its own through pure quality and is easily one of the best Mario titles. Each level is fun and interesting to play, and the game has done a lot to balance and alter power-ups and level design so that both novices and hardcore can enjoy it. In terms of multiplayer, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is one of the best co-op games in years, and it's a boatload of fun to play with friends.
Retroage (Dec 04, 2009)
Podsumowując, New Super Mario Bros.

So auch beim sperrig betitelten New Super Mario Bros.

Bravo Nintendo - New Super Mario Bros.
Gaming Age (Nov 25, 2009)
It's certainly the most accessible Mario adventure yet, but still manages to provide a huge amount of entertainment to long-time fans. Well worth picking up, and definitely one of the highlights for Wii owners this year.
FNintendo (Dec 04, 2009)
É claro que New Super Mario Bros.

Cheat Happens (Nov 24, 2009)
After all these years, Mario is back to prove why he is still the king of the platformer. It may not be the most innovative, but New Super Mario Bros is one of the most fun gaming experiences I’ve had not just this year, but in recent memory. It’s fun and it’s nostalgic but at the same time it’s fresh and new. Over the last few years I’ve questioned why I own a Wii and this is the answer to that question. New Super Mario Bros is a great experience that bridges the gaps between our increasingly segmenting hobby. Go out and buy Mario’s latest adventure, it will remind you why you fell in love with the medium in the first place.
AusGamers (Nov 20, 2009)
New Super Mario Bros Wii - overall - is a brilliant platformer. The only real issue being a lack of controller options. It's been a long time coming and the inclusion of four-player multiplayer is just an added bonus when thinking about buying a game that you should own regardless. Now it's time for me to sit down with my all-Rush mix-tape, a two-litre bottle of Shasta and get to finishing 100%. If only Nintendo had some Xbox style achievement system, then someone might notice.

Realm of Gaming (Apr 02, 2010)
Super Mario Bros. Wii is an awesome game and definitely worth playing. Though in some opinions it may never compare to some of the classics like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World for the SNES, it is highly entertaining and can keep up to four people (or more, as the game can be just as fun to watch) occupied for hours.
GamersGlobal (Nov 20, 2009)
90 (UK) (Nov 16, 2009)
Played solo, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is an improvement on the DS game, but it has the same character. It's almost routine in its excellence, resting with ease on Mario's mountain of laurels: a brilliant game, but more tribute than true successor, and an exercise in deja vu for the seasoned Mario fan. With more than one player, however, it's transformed.
GameSpy (Nov 13, 2009)
If you have friends who enjoy videogames, this is one to play together. It's made specifically for that -- and yeah, it's got all the painstaking collectibles and supplemental multiplayer challenges you already assumed it did, so you're going to play it for quite a while. And if you just want a serious challenge, play alone and revel in the pure joy of death. Either way, it's a damn fine Mario game. But I bet you already knew that.
NSMBW is a stunning game in single-player, and a chaotic barrel of light-hearted laughs in multiplayer, accessible to beginners while truly challenging to long-term fans. Well done, Nintendo.
Thunderbolt Games (Nov 23, 2009)
Regardless of its shortcomings, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is easily one of the best titles on the system, and an impressive addition to the series. Saving the princess just got fun again.
89 (Nov 27, 2009)
Truth be told, I had to blow dust off the Wii before putting New Super Mario Bros Wii into the drive. But only Nintendo's device could ever push a 2D game as their big holiday number - and it's fantastic that they have.
IGN (Nov 13, 2009)
I had a great time plowing through all eight worlds (and then some), but the nagging feeling of it seeming like a step backwards kept creeping in. As a gamer I love New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but as a critic I just couldn't let the issues slide.
Softpedia (Feb 12, 2010)
It's all about nostalgia with New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Wii. If the characters and their exploits have dominated your younger years and then you left them for more complex, violent or narrative driven titles, the new game is a perfect way to reconnect and share some of the fond memories again. It's also perfect to bring an updated Mario adventure to those who have never experienced the magic in the first place. It's also very engaging, if not always fun and a bit too chaotic, in multiplayer. Nintendo has done a great job at expanding the appeal of the title to a wider array of gamers while keeping its soul firmly in place.
NZGamer (Nov 16, 2009)
It seems strange to chop an excellent game down for being too excellent, but I guess that's what I'm doing - I said something similar about Bowser's Inside Story, but at least there they broke out into a new and exciting genre, right? On some level (some, not really immediately obvious level) there's a hollowness. If it wasn't for the excellent, enriching multiplayer I should be very worried about this game's long term potential. Oh, but should you buy it? Absolutely!
GameSpot (Nov 13, 2009)
Thankfully, New Super Mario Bros. Wii has more than nostalgia to back it up. While it doesn't stray too far from what's come before it, New Super Mario Bros. Wii's tight gameplay, multitude of secrets, accessibility for newcomers thanks to the nifty Super Guide, and some fun multiplayer additions all add up to a great platformer that Mario fans and nonfans alike should enjoy.
GameZone (Nov 19, 2009)
With nothing entirely new or groundbreaking introduced, there was no way for NEW Super Mario Bros. Wii to deliver a flawless experience. It’s wholly possible that if Nintendo had chosen to replace the rehashed levels with tons of fresh stages, gamers would have been less likely to recognize the sequel’s overall shortcomings. But when you see rocks falling from the sky and think, “Hey, I’ve played this before.” Or when you jump through a vertical stage as lava rises up, or defeat inept bosses that are rehashed from older Mario games, you will get the depressing sensation that you’ve experienced this before. That’s not a feeling the Mario series was known for creating. It’s certainly not something Mario Galaxy – a groundbreaking and spellbinding masterpiece – was guilty of. NEW Super Mario Bros. Wii shouldn’t have been guilty of it either.
ITavisen (Nov 27, 2009)
That Gaming Site (Nov 19, 2009)
Mario fans will bask in the joys of returning to the Mushroom Kingdom. For everyone else, it's everything you're expecting and not much else. Put simply, this is classic Mario. Untouched but still golden!
Level (Mar, 2010)
80 (Feb 23, 2011)
Nevertheless, I’m still giving this game an 8/10. Why? Because, contrary to…shit, I don’t know what my point is either, but the fact remains that this game is still worth playing despite all its flaws. 2D Mario on a modern console? You CAN’T lose with that, even if it’s inferior to the originals.
Gamereactor (Sweden) (Nov 15, 2009)
I New Super Mario Bros. Wii stannar man gärna en extra stund.
80 (Nov 18, 2009)
Critics might say the single-player experience is essentially a 20-year-old game, but when that 20-year-old game is so eternally pleasurable, that's no bad thing. New Super Mario. Wii is hard, old school and great fun. Who says Nintendo doesn't make games like it used to?
Gamekult (Nov 18, 2009)
GamesRadar (Nov 13, 2009)
It’s clear by now we’re not exactly smitten with New SMB Wii. But that doesn’t mean some of its finer points were lost on us. Take for example the music, which are mostly remixes of existing Mario tunes. Nothing special there, but if you watch enemies and parts of the background, they’ll actually dance in synch with the beat. Small touch, but it’s cute, and that helps ease the pain of trudging through yet another narrow, one-note level.
Game Critics (Feb 03, 2010)
NSMBW isn't unfun. It's uninspired. Like the games that came before it, New Super Mario Bros. Wii evokes concepts and imagery presented in its predecessors. Unlike those games, it makes no effort to expand upon any of those ideas. It falls short of their legacy of great platforming with the exception of the endgame, and in that same endgame the multiplayer—its greatest success—crumbles. In an effort to capture the imagination (and $50) of gamers, Nintendo has created a sales pitch with a game wrapped around it, and their cynicism has resulted in a hodgepodge of nostalgia without identity or imagination.
60 (Nov 27, 2009)
I like the fact that Nintendo have brought a 2D Mario back to the home console. I think there is still a place for it, but the place for it could have been WiiWare as with a little scaling down this could have been WiiWare’s crowning piece. Of course it’s just not good business, and I fully accept that it was always going to be a disc based game as WiiWare just isn’t a big enough platform for this title to sell from. In all the game is well worth getting for Mario fans and families but I couldn’t help feeling disappointed that Nintendo didn’t try to be innovative or fresh to justify that “New” in the title. I do recommend the game as I have no doubt you will have fun and kids will have to play it under the playground law. I just didn’t find it as fun and balanced as I had hoped and we should expect more on the Wii, post Mario Galaxy.
The A.V. Club (Nov 23, 2009)
The Mario series has always offered such brilliant big ideas—the rich, non-sequential structure of Super Mario World, the groundbreaking use of 3-D space in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy—that it was easy to ignore the repetitious nature of their underlying format. The lack of a strong concept in this game brings that decades-old sameness to the fore and makes New SMB Wii the least essential Mario title to date.
