We were a bit worried that Toki Tori on WiiWare was just to please the fans of the GBC game, but Two Tribes have really outdone themselves. If you've already played the original, then you will probably blaze through the game in no time, as it has a lot of the old levels. But hey, it's been a fair few years since the GBC original -- it might be nice to revisit the game and get some new levels as a bonus. If you haven't played the original, well, you're in for a treat! At full price the GBC game was already worth it, but this version only costs 900 Wii Points, which really is a steal.

It's criminal that so few people have enjoyed the wonders of Toki Tori up until just recently. Beneath its cutesy exterior lies a charmingly tasking game which requires all the logic you can muster to get through. With over 70 levels of solid puzzles which will be difficult even for those who feast on Tetriminos for breakfast, Toki Tori is probably WiiWare's best offering to date. With WayForward set to resurrect cult GBC hit Shantae on WiiWare, let's hope the platform can work its magic again and bring even more previously unknown yet brilliant titles to a greater audience. We cannot stress this enough: if you have a Wii and you have access to the internet, you must buy Toki Tori.

Being a puzzle game, Toki Tori's length is somewhat debatable. Completing the game at 100% took me about six hours, though this length will vary from person to person based on their puzzle-solving skills. Regardless of length, the game provides for a satisfying experience while it lasts, with puzzles neither seeming too hard or too easy. Fans of puzzle games in general, and particularly those in the vein of Capcom's Zack & Wiki, won't regret picking this one up.

At first glance this game may seem tilted at a younger audience, with its cutesy-style graphics, but don’t let this exterior fool you, as your brain will come close to melting point with some of the levels. At a mere 1000 Wii point investment you can’t go wrong, as it will provide ample gameplay for hours on end, and is a puzzler that you can put down, but will keep coming back to.

Toki Tori is an excellent update to an overlooked classic that many gamers may have missed the first time around. Solving puzzles and navigating levels is addictive and engaging without ever becoming stressful or demanding. For fans of puzzles, platforming, chickens, neurological activity in general or a combination of any of those, Toki Tori is a must-purchase. It may have slipped under the radar before, but now is the perfect time to give this unique game the second chance it deserves. Don’t miss out.

Toki Tori does what it does as well as you could ask it to. Fun, clever, friendly and rewarding, it will stimulate the old noggin without ever feeling like hard work. And that's exactly what puzzle games should do.

The original Toki Tori on the Game Boy Color was a lost treasure that pretty much everyone missed when it was finally released more than seven years ago. I'm happy to see that the game's been given a second breath of life, and I'm even happier to report that this action puzzler holds up extremely well in the move from old-school portable to new-school console.

Toki Tori is a quality title with hours of entertainment for those interested in IQ-testing puzzles. It is also a solid step for WiiWare, which seems to be delivering almost as many quality titles as the Wii itself. As we have seen, these new downloads can put a real strain on the old 512mb memory bank, but Toki Tori is definitely worth the file space.

Toki Tori is a fun and challenging WiiWare puzzle game. Its cute graphics, simple control scheme, good difficulty curve, and challenging gameplay will keep kids and adults alike amused for hours. The game costs 900 Wii Points, which is a tad on the pricey side. But if you're a keen puzzle fan who has enough perseverance for the later levels, then it's definitely a game that you should check out.

With around 70 levels to play through, both fun and challenging gameplay, and appealing visuals and sound, Toki Tori is a worthy addition in any puzzle game fans’ collection.

Nintendo Only (Jun 16, 2008)

It's deceptively tricky, hiding a razor-sharp puzzle game beneath its cutesy exterior, but it's the sort of intuitive and methodical difficulty that won't scare your mum. It's not a game that I'd suggest rushing to download, not while games like LostWinds are available, but it's definitely worth picking up eventually.
