The Big Three
- The Big Three (1989 on DOS)
Description
The Big 3 is a turn-based (three turns per year) wargame set in World War II. The player has the choice between three factions (USA/Britain, Soviet Union and Germany/Italy) with the goal of winning the war. The presentation is similar to other wargames: abstract symbols are moved over hexagonal fields.
This game focuses on macro-management: The playing field (Europe, Northern Africa and a small part of the USA) is one big map divided in relatively few hex fields (e.g. Germany has five). During each round, the player produces units (restricted by force pools which ensure that each faction keeps a certain ratio of unit types) and moves units. Combat is decided with a dice roll while factors like seasons influence the winning chances. Producing units and offensive actions require building and military points which are awarded at the end of each round, e.g. by holding cities. It is important to keep supply lines.
This is an updated version of The Big Three specifically developed for Windows 3.x. Besides VGA graphics and adapted menus, the main addition is an AI opponent to play against.
