Hong Kong Mahjong Pro
Description
This game allows the player to play the ancient game of Mahjong against three computer players. Unlike many other games with Mahjong in the title, this game does not consists of picking matching tiles off of a pile of tiles to see if you can remove them all. Instead, it plays similarly to the card game Gin where you must accumulate straights or runs to win. However, Mahjong has its own special rules involving the special tiles used to play the game.
The game has a number of pre-programmed opponents, each with their own portrait, voice, and play style.

An Excellent Introduction to Mah-Jong
The Good
If you ever wanted to learn to play Mah-jong and did not have three other players to help you, this game would be a godsend to you. Its very easy to play. There is a tutorial, but the manual is also very good in outlining the objectives of the game and all the tiles and so forth. You also have a variety of opponents to pick from. So if you are a novice, you can have other novice opponents and later move up to more experienced demanding ones. The tiles are very well done and look authentic and the background usually is of some scenery from Hong Kong.
The Bad
As with other DOS games of this era, there is the usual test question before you start, in order to prevent piracy of the game. This is a small problem though.
The Bottom Line
This is the best solo Mah-jong simulation you will probably find right now and it features an easy interface and a variety of opponents for long term play value. If you like or have an interest in Mah-Jong, this is the game for you.
