A Story About My Uncle is a great game with outstanding visuals and exceptional storytelling. If you’re looking for a dreamy, sunday-afternoon game that takes time and a love of exploration to enjoy with a wonderful story, then you’ll find this will definitely hit the spot.

A Story About My Uncle

A Story About My Uncle è un'azzeccata miscela fatta di meccaniche platform in prima persona, esplorazione e narrativa fiabesca.

Αξίζει λοιπόν το A Story About My Uncle μια επένδυση των 10 ευρώ από μέρους σας; Μπορούμε με βεβαιότητα να πούμε ότι αξίζει και με το παραπάνω.

Unfortunately, the last quarter of A Story About My Uncle does become a little too repetitive, and slightly overly obscure grapple set pieces require blind luck more often than skill. That said, this is still a great adventure - one which will return you to childhood fantasy, and one which will far from get your goat.

A Story About My Uncle is an incredible game that is greater than the sum of its parts. The story is compelling despite some iffy English and similarly-problematic voice acting, while the graphics are impressive as a whole even with antiquated character models being used. The controls are exactly what they need to be — easy to use on a gamepad and more precise with aiming via a keyboard and mouse setup. ASAMU’s platforming is some of the most challenging you’ll experience, and some of the most enjoyable too. It’s tough, but not Kaizo Mario-level — it’s fair and just requires trial and error to succeed. With a price point of only $15, A Story About My Uncle is a must-own for anyone who loves games that make them think and can appreciate a good platforming challenge as well.

A Story About My Uncle is a captivating and engaging experience. Once you put on that suit and are launched into the sky, you begin a journey that will have you smiling throughout, even during the challenging moments. It’s a game of beauty and wit, converging to create a truly wonderful experience full of dazzling artwork and obstacles that demand some thought to overcome. Some may find A Story About My Uncle too easy, some people may find it infuriating; most, however, will be engrossed in its ever-glowing and charismatic fantasy world.

You get the feeling that the world is just a series of platforms that you have to check, like in a giant slalom skiing tournament, with all the eye candy trying to fool you into thinking that you're actually doing something else entirely. The premise of the story is interesting and gets you hooked, and even though the game is linear and demands near perfect execution for many of its puzzles, it's still an interesting mechanical and visual experience, but A Story About My Uncle ultimately disappoints by ending very abruptly and not getting anywhere. On the other hand, you could also say that it revolutionizes the way we think about platformers. It's rewarding to play, and you can even pick it up after you're done with the story and have some quick fun with it, so in that aspect it wins a few extra points.

A Story About My Uncle is an unusual game, but one that is well worth playing. The story is involving, the visuals are stunning and the gameplay is both challenging and satisfying. The lack of threat and the absence of puzzles may leave some players feeling unfulfilled, but it is very difficult not to like such a charming and charismatic game.

Fast, fluid and fun first-person platforming tied together with a warm narrative. Pace slows near the end, though.

The game itself is only a few hours long — I finished it in a single session one afternoon, before dinner — and it feels like it ends just as the world is starting to really be revealed. The story never amounts to much, and generally it would have been nice to just have … well, more. For what it is, though, A Story About My Uncle accomplishes its goal of creating a feeling through controls that many games aspire to, but fail to grasp. My biggest takeaway from the game was wishing there was more of it; the game does a phenomenal job of making it exciting merely to be present in and move about its world, if only for a fleeting visit.

While it has its problems, it still has its charm as well. The soundtrack is very well done, and as I said before, the world itself is rather pretty to look at, especially in the heat of all the platforming. For $13, players looking for a unique experience will find it here. Keep in mind, there is some trial and error platforming awaiting would-be players that can get nerve-racking after a while, and some of the dialog delivery is off, but the world itself is colorful and interesting and while it may be delivered slightly off at times, the story is rather interesting.

A Story About My Uncle is not a fascinating story. The uncle is not a memorable character. Neither the story, nor the uncle are what make this game really fun. It’s the exhilarating first-person traversal. Swinging through this world is unlike anything I’ve played and it really continues the indie trend that you don’t always need combat to create an immersive first-person game. I would love to see these developers return to this idea but really flesh out everything that surrounds it. If the uncle, the story, and the world were as captivating as the mechanics, A Story About My Uncle would have become more than just a story, but a legend.

ASAMU is a good platforming game, but it distracts itself with vague dialogue and a poorly developed world. It has a lot of room for improvement and it would have been nice if the final product were more polished. I feel the story could have done with more elaboration, rather than giving the player the bare bones and expecting them to fill in the holes. Hints in the form of objects throughout the game were a nice idea, but being able to interact with these and have the father tie them into the story would make it feel more engaging. The platforming was excellent, but still suffered from growing tiresome at times, and the complete inability to interact with the world made the game feel more like a ride set on a track than the story of a boy exploring a new world.

Game Critics (Aug 11, 2014)
The core failures of A Story About My Uncle have little to do with narrative, however, and more to do with fundamentals of design. When the game lets its main character race through the world, bounding across chasms and flinging himself here and there with the grapple, it is really wonderful. That happens all too rarely, however, and instead the game breeds repeated frustration brought on by the difficulty of figuring out where the protagonist should grapple, why he can't, or what to do about it.

A story about my uncle är ett spel med stora intentioner.
