Impulse Gamer (Oct, 2009)
In conclusion, Aion is a very entertaining MMO game that although doesn’t challenge this genre too much, still uses the traditional Dungeons & Dragons archetypes. However there are some new twists and turns to the gameplay and if you’re looking for something different than World of Warcraft, (like we were) than you’d be pressed to finding something better than Aion. With new content planned, let’s hope that Aion takes off because it's already had over a year in Asia to establish itself as one of the best MMO available. Even if you're not a fan of online RPG's, the graphics will probably draw you in. Nice!
The A.V. Club (Oct 12, 2009)
In the battle against World Of Warcraft’s supremacy over the MMORPG genre, Aion’s greatest weapon is beauty. It lacks the depth and experienced wisdom of its 4-year-old rival, but Aion manages to make WOW show its age. The graphics are impressive at every level. Enormous serpentine creatures soar through the air; strange elephant-like beasts water themselves in frozen lakes. The combat skills produce vibrant visuals.
GamingXP (Nov 03, 2009)
RPGFan (May 15, 2009)
In retrospect, I believe the similarities to other well-traveled MMORPGs works in Aion's favor. Players will be able to instantly interact and participate in its world without fuss or confusion. Only gradually does the game introduce new elements to its palette; before long the whole breathtaking picture comes into view. Without a doubt, Aion is an incredibly polished experience that refines the best aspects of the genre and creates a spectacular new world. As a fan and critic of the genre, I wholeheartedly recommend Aion to both casual and experienced gamers.
Gameplanet (Oct 09, 2009)
With the game almost two years in development and beta, and the pedigree of previous games created by NCSoft, Aion fortunately isn't plagued with the usual opening night jitters. It's finely balanced and very well engineered. It delivers some real innovation in the genre, particularly in game balance and graphics, and it's a refreshing and very real alternative for MMORPG players. If you are tired of the cry of the murlocs, pack your bow and spell book and enter the world of Aion.
NZGamer (Sep 30, 2009)
It's not that different to WoW but the differences are quite noticeable - whether you like them or not is something only you can determine. If you're looking for something with a different storyline to WoW, don't play WoW for reasons other than its gameplay or want something more than combat, Aion is well worth checking out. It's arguably the best MMO at launch that we've ever seen - it took years for WoW to get to this level of polish and in some ways Aion tops even that.

I have to figure that in, as it is part of the quality of the game. Yet, it is an unfortunate blemish on what is otherwise a very solid, very enjoyable MMO experience. So, even with that said, I am still more than willing to recommend it.
AusGamers (Oct 28, 2009)
Overall, the key experience one looks for in an MMO, with numerous people active in a persistent and changing game-world are shared experiences. From tackling a dungeon as part of a group suited to your skill and role, to defending a large enemy invasion at a friendly controlled fortress, Aion utilises well executed RPG and character building mechanics to make these things quite accessible. For a person who has no qualms immersing themselves in a deep single-player RPG for numerous hours, playing an MMO like Aion, feels both different and very similar. Instead of a world filled with countless NPCs there're real people, and much like NPCs in single-player games, you pretty much avoid the majority. But when you find a group of like-minded players and work as a team in tackling a simple quest or large dungeon, Aion definitely shines.

IGN (Oct 08, 2009)
Aion is a beautiful, well-polished, well-presented game that introduces a new combat mechanic in fantasy MMOs, fighting on wings. In fact, it's such a lovely game that we wish there were more of it. While it offers something for both PvE and PvP-oriented players, it will only truly appeal to those who enjoy both, as the full Aion experience can only be achieved both by leveling up through quests and by playing in the Abyss when you're strong enough. The developers have actually added a great deal of PvE content in the process of localizing it for the North American/ European market and the potential is definitely there for the game to grow in that aspect but as it stands, ultimately the heart and soul of Aion is the Abyss. So obviously, if you enjoy both aspects in an MMO, Aion is definitely for you. If you lean towards PvE, there is enough content for you to enjoy for a few months but longevity may be an issue.
Gamer Limit (Oct 08, 2009)
Aion may not the new messiah, but it’s certainly an alternative for those who haven’t been all that satisfied with other titles in the genre. It’s a polished, complete, interesting, graphically breathtaking example that proves other companies can develop intuitive and playable MMOs. It doesn’t re-write the rulebook nor introduce generational change, but it does make other failed contenders (Warhammer Online, Age of Conan) look like mauled, decaying animals in comparison. If you’re looking for something new to suck up all of your spare time, then you could do a lot worse then Aion.
Spazio Games (Oct 01, 2009)
83 (Dec 04, 2009)
As end conclusion I can only say that Aion has had a more than decent launch. The game offers a solid base for both PvE and PvP and if we look at what the devteam still has planned then the future looks bright!

Games Finder (Mar 16, 2014)
Aion isn’t short on other features either with literally thousands of story based quests, lots of PvP to experience, guilds to join, pets and a crafting system at the centre of the game’s economy.
RPG Site (Nov 07, 2009)
Will the game continue to stay popular with the release of games such as Final Fantasy XIV and Star Wars: The Old Republic, and will NC Soft still continue to offer strong support of the game after they release their other column, Guild Wars 2? Will it ruin my social life again like so many other online games have? Time will tell, but for now, this game comes highly recommended for those wanting to experience what I personally believe is the best MMO of the year.
GamesCollection (Oct 07, 2009)
The MMO Gamer (Dec 04, 2009)
Aion brings an enjoyable experience to the crowded MMO market. From its visuals and gameplay to the ability to fly, it is worth the price of admission. While it does falter in some regards, none of the downsides detract from the overall enjoyment of the game.
Meristation (Oct 13, 2009)
Boomtown (Oct 14, 2009)
Aion is a very worthy purchase in the saturated field of MMOs. It looks great, is colourful and well designed and plays well apart from the grinding (a curse of all MMOs) needed to ascend to the higher character levels. Is Aion a WOW beater though? Too soon to tell. One thing is certaini; NCSoft's latest RPG has gotten off to a flying start and will be hoping to steadily gain altitude until it climbs to the lofty heights of long term RPG greatness.
GameZone (Nov 10, 2009)
Aion offers some new ideas and the whole wing dynamic is wonderful. The game is a real treat for the eyes and there is no ugly race. Players can, however, choose to create a beautiful being, or an ugly creation – mostly tied to Asmodian – in the character creation process, though. Even the starkness of some environments contain some amazing elements and interesting creatures. The problem with the game, though, is that it is a grind and at a certain point the story ceases to matter as much and raiding becomes the focus. That, and the economic woes, may be the undoing of this game.
Cynamite (Oct 19, 2009)

Game Watcher (Oct, 2009)
This is a game that is geared towards the end game. Subtle things such as Daeva Points, a power metre that only fills up when you’re online, encourage the player to play, and to play for as long as possible for maximum effect. Even the PvPvE system encourages (or forces) players to see things through to the near end in order to get to bits that everyone prefers – battling other players. There are only so many ways for constructing an MMO, and this is one of them. It’s probably not the best, but it’s at least different, and despite its flaws Aion is setting up to be one of the more successful new MMO’s.
Gameplay (Benelux) (Oct 28, 2009)
Cheat Code Central (Oct, 2009)
In the end, Aion is one of the best, most well-polished MMORPGs to be released in a long time, which is reinforced by its popularity and hype. It stays within the traditions of an aging genre and makes sure to maximize on it at the same time. Nevertheless, its lack of unique components doesn't help set it apart from the competition, and calls into question Aion's ability to establish a solid, faithful, and long-lasting community. The bottom-line? If you're looking for innovative design concepts and new avenues of gameplay, then Aion won't impress, but if you're just looking for solid gameplay you already know and love, then it's definitely worth your attention.
GameSpy (Nov 16, 2009)
So why do I recommend Aion, despite its shortcomings? It's a well put-together package that only falters in that it sticks to the same formulas that I've seen in MMOs since their inception. It's a highly polished experience that will satisfy if you're looking for yet another MMO, albeit one with a few more bells and whistles.
70 (Oct 23, 2009)
AceGamez (Oct, 2009)
A few years ago, Aion could have emerged as the seminal MMO experience. Unfortunately, the market has become more crowded recently; World of Warcraft continues to grow, fuelled by its regular expansions and, with more progressive titles such as Bioware's The Old Republic due for release next year, Aion runs the risk of disappearing into obscurity - especially if its server issues aren't quickly addressed. It's with a hint of sadness that, even for all its charm and original aspects, I'm not able to recommend Aion over a game five years its senior. NCSoft have produced a fine game but, in the end, it's simply too little, too late.
70 (UK) (Sep 21, 2009)
You'll either like the sound of this singular blend of MMO play-styles or you won't. If you do and are prepared to take the quality and sustainability of the high-level content on trust, for now - trust which, to be fair, the game seems to deserve - I'd recommend it. Aion's particular vision is built on a rock-solid if uninspired foundation, a meticulous mastery of the traditional MMORPG form. It might as well have been made by Toyota or Volkswagen. It won't let you down.
GameSpot (Dec 08, 2009)
It's a shame that Aion's early engaging gameplay so quickly devolves into a mind-numbing grind. This is a great-looking game with an interesting premise, and its combat system--while flawed--could certainly teach other MMOGs a thing or two about accessibility. If the zones you spend your time in from levels 10 to 50 were half as well put together as the starter zones, then this would be an easy game to recommend, but that's currently not the case.
Assigning a grade to an MMO is an excruciatingly painful task. I’ve spent hours trying to come to some sort of a reasonable conclusion. As far as I’m concerned, World of Warcraft is a 4-star game, and since I like it a bit better than Aion, I’m inclined to give the latter a 3. On the other hand, I’ve played WoW for years and am too used to it to remain objective. Just because I happen to prefer something else doesn’t mean Aion is bad; in fact, it’s better in many aspects. I can see how someone could give it a 4 or even a 5. This is a matter of personal taste, plain and simple. The only thing I can definitely suggest is to give Aion a try and judge for yourself.
Game Shark (Nov 10, 2009)
If you play MMORPGs for the journey and the storyline, then Aion: the Tower of Eternity is not for you. There aren’t enough quests to engage you in the story, and spending days grinding mobs just to level is not something many people relish doing. The main focus is on PvP, particularly at end cap (let’s face it; from levels 25-40 you’re just a gazelle waiting to be devoured by a pack of level 45-50 lions), but it would be nice if NC Soft made the journey to level 50 not so painfully boring. While there is hope that more quests will be added in the future to lower the amount needed to grind, it remains to be seen whether people will tolerate it long enough to continue playing, or bother to subscribe in the first place.
1UP (Oct 13, 2009)
Because of the relatively short amount of time I've had with Aion, and, to be honest, a general apathy toward playing any further, I've not yet experienced the so-called "PvPvE" endgame that lies in the central Abyss zone. It sounds like a genuinely fascinating mix of competitive multiplayer and co-operative raid content, and if the game hadn't bored me to tears at such an early stage, then I might have gone on to enjoy it. But if even I can't be motivated to reach the level cap -- and I'm being paid to play this game -- then what hope is there for your average World of Warcraft subscriber?
Game Revolution (Nov 10, 2009)
Overall, I cannot recommend Aion to just about anyone. Folks who were big into Lineage 2 might get a kick out it, but I don’t think this is the game for the Western audience. At its best, Aion plays like a constrained, low-content version of WoW. The game is not at its best frequently enough to give it even that small praise; Aion is simply a poor game.
