Despite of some elements that could have been added for more diverse play, I really enjoyed the game. Whether you play as a team, or try and play as just one guy and leave your teammates behind, any shooter fan should enjoy this title.

While this means ABZ is far from subtle or deep, it does make for a lot of action. There's much less creeping around than there is laying waste to all and sundry, which is ABZ's strong point. So for all the weak enemy AI and graphical glitches, ABZ remains a decent and carnage-filled team-based blaster, worth checking out when the price drops.

For forty bucks, Alpha Black Zero isn't terrible. It just isn't very entertaining. For that price (or cheaper) you can pick up any of a number of shooters that are both better looking and more fun. Alpha Black Zero has a lot of potential but the execution falls short of being good. What we're left with is a game that's frustrating because it seems like it could have been much better with a bit more polish and more comprehensible missions.

Alpha Black Zero is Serious Engine based sci-fi tactical first person shooter from Netherlands based developer Khaeon and publisher Playlogic. The game is set several hundred years in Earth's future when space travel and galactic colonization are in full swing. In this future, which is pretty distant (2366 AD), mankind has colonized the stars, and most planets fall under the auspices of the Sol Government. You play the role of Ltn. Kyle Hardlaw, leader of an External Tactics Initiative team (five highly skilled marines), which is codenamed Alpha Black Zero. The game itself is a kind of big flashback as Hardlaw was being put on trial for mass murder. As you play through the missions, you are playing through the events as they are being described to the court by Hardlaw...

Alpha Black Zero: Intrepid Protocol is a textbook example of why bigger does not always mean better. This third-person action game from developer Khaeon aspires to be an epic shooter, but it muddles that goal with terrible pacing. Instead of filling Alpha Black Zero with fun and exciting action, Khaeon instead serves up a dimly lit, lackluster game that doesn't know when to stop.

As stated before, Alpha Black Zero doesn't offer anything new to set itself apart from the far superior Rainbow Six and emerging console offerings like Sony's SOCOM series which reduces the need to make sure your computer can stand up to the challenge and focus on the game itself. Unfortunately the penetration in the US market for games not published by a super-publisher is small, but you won't be missing anything that won't be followed up by four other tactical games in the next quarter all looking to be the next big thing. It only takes one good game to change a genre's landscape, but, sadly, ABZ is not that game.

Alpha Black Zero: Intrepid Protocol is not only a mouthful it's a handful as well. The controls are simply ludicrous, and continued to be so even after I spent a fair amount of time reassigning them. The camera still makes navigation nearly impossible. The levels are amazingly large, but this is not a good thing - finding your objective on the lands that do not offer maps is often harder and more time consuming than any enemies you encounter on the way. That said, if these issues can be conquered there is an interesting (and often quite fun) game under there. Action fans with patience will find reason to rejoice.

Alpha Black Zero isn’t a bad game, but it’s hobbled by so many execution problems that it never really catches wind in its sails. The core structure is definitely there, but there’s so many “if’s” covering it up: if the levels weren’t so long, if there was an overhead mission map, if there were more specific tactical commands, if you could choose individual loadouts, if the AI could keep from getting stuck on corners, if the outdoor levels weren’t so disorienting, and so on. The impact that the shortcomings have on the product as a whole are especially sad, since Alpha Black Zero contains an engaging storyline and the individual mission concepts are strong. With some patching, this title could be a sleeper hit, but as it stands, it’s hard to recommend.

Смятый, откровенно убогий финал в мгновение ока уничтожает с трудом нащупанные крупицы «доброго и вечного». Перекошенная гористая местность (единственное, что умеет рисовать движок) приедается через полчаса, а глупые, унылые миссии довершают разгром. Игра тянется как инопланетная слизь в трехкопеечном ужастике, и после развязки чувствуется горечь обиды.

Alpha Black Zero veut se faire passer pour un Ghost Recon futuriste mais il n'est en fait qu'un jeu très linéaire, aux missions trop longues, avec des ennemis aussi futés qu'une tanche et un gameplay "squad based" qui ne sert en fait qu'à passer du fusil de snipe à la mitrailleuse. On s'ennuie fortement très vite.

If you're in the mood for a tactical shooter, stick with the Tom Clancy game. Hell, Alpha Black Zero even makes games like Chrome look like high art. Ultimately, the intriguing storyline doesn't compensate for the vast, boring levels, and ugly scenery. The redeeming payoff for braving the stuff that makes the Zero in the title so fitting is the combat itself, which offers a bit of a rush. It's too bad there's not more of that, and less ... jogging.

On a positive note, the entire game can be played cooperatively over the Internet. On a less positive note, there’s absolutely no reason to do this. Alpha Black Zero might not be the worst game ever made, but it may be the most tedious.

Un tactical shooter sans tactique et aux combats ratés. C'est tellement laid, linéaire, mal foutu, répétitif et mou qu'on se surprend par moment à regretter Kreed. J'en ai fini la moitié et je me suis lâchement enfui quand il a planté au milieu d'une cinématique.

Mit vier KI-Kollegen hetzen Sie im Actionspiel Alpha Black Zero durch öde Zukunft-Levels, um Extremisten zu beseitigen. Steuerung, Optik (Serious-Engine) und Sound sind weit hinter Standard. Wer einen intelligenten Team-Shooter spielen will, hält sich besser an Raven Shield.
