I could go on and on as this game has plenty of features and plenty of content that you just have to experience first hand. This game is well deserving of the 5 GiN gems rating as it is excellent! It is the only game since April 1999 that has gotten me to change my EverQuest subscription from six months to monthly. This game is indeed for anyone no matter how much experience you have in playing online roleplaying games or any other type of roleplaying game.
Game Chronicles (Apr 30, 2003)
MMOGs are a risky venture for developers, either becoming a currency printing license of success, or financial failure plagued by a lack of subscribers. If my experience is any indication, Turbine and Microsoft have hit this one out of the park. The game is still fairly young and there doesn’t seem to be any shortage of players at any given time, and what’s not to like? A MMOG with fantastic production values, monthly episodic content, that’s playable over a 56k connection, you bet people will like it! Give this one a shot folks, despite the initial investment Asheron’s Call 2: Fallen Kings is as solid a MMOG as you can buy.
GameZone (Dec 02, 2002)
Asheron’s Call 2: Fallen Kings is an addictive game that has a good spawn rate, wonderful graphical elements and solid sound. Players with lower modem speeds do not seem harshly punished for that, the quests are plentiful, the world changes almost constantly and the action can be intense. This is a terrific game that will raise the bar for MMORPGs.
Asheron’s Call 2 is easy to get into, difficult to stop playing and always enjoyable. Its rich virtual world and diverse skill system offer many hours of exciting gameplay within a realm that promises to never stop changing. The simple character creation and deferral of skill specializations vastly improves the game’s accessibility, and the ability to untrain skills means that no character is ever set on the wrong path irrevocably. What’s more, a stable and efficient server implementation coupled with the many communication and collaboration options ensures positive real-time interaction with players around the world. With beautiful graphics that will take advantage of next year’s hardware and a multitude of 3D sounds, Auberean will be looking and sounding sharp for years to come. The struggle to reclaim Dereth is epic and momentous, and whether you’re a devoted Asheron’s Call player or you’ve never set foot in an MMORPG, you’ll be glad if you give it a chance.
Gameplay (Benelux) (Jan 31, 2003)
IGN (Dec 13, 2002)
The most important question you might be asking is, is Fallen Kings fun? I have to say a resounding yes! If you've never played a MOG before, this is a great one to introduce you to the genre. If you enjoy questing, lore or role-playing, you will probably love this game. In fact, if you are anything but a power-leveling addict who wants to be the first to reach level cap by constantly hunting monsters, this is the experience for you. However if riding that level treadmill is what you live for, this will most likely not appeal to you in its current state. What awaits everyone in Dereth is a world rich with lore, quests and beauty. Monthly updates indicates that Asheron's Call 2: Fallen Kings will only get better.
Gaming Nexus (Dec 19, 2002)
Asheron’s Call 2 is the best MMORPG I’ve come across. It looks great, it plays well, and it is very stable. The plot looks to be an interesting one, and with the continuation of monthly events promises to remain fresh for new and more experienced characters alike. Veteran MMORPGers are sure to find something they like here, along with those wanting to try out the genre for the first time
Even with these drawbacks, Asheron’s Call 2 is a fantastic title and a new standard for MMORPG’s. With a fabulous graphics engine, smooth play, deep character development, and what I’m sure will be excellent additions to come in the months ahead, AC2 is more than worth the price of admission.
PC Action (Feb 15, 2003)
Game Over Online (Jan 20, 2003)
Fallen Kings does a good job in presenting combat and magic skill sets by the way of a tree. On the other hand, the crafting skills need more organization as the current sort order is anything but intuitive. The inventory could also benefit from a sort feature.
Game Revolution (Dec 01, 2002)
All in all, Asheron's Call 2 is a welcome addition to the increasingly lucrative genre of online persistent world gaming. It's a MMORPG that gives you a reason to play, and that reason changes month to month. With a beautiful game engine and elaborate quest system, the game doesn't disappoint. If you try it out, who knows, you may just see a handsome Lugian with a sword in each hand wildly striking monsters to death. If so, say hi. Now if only I could buy a new set of armor...
GameStar (Germany) (Jan, 2003)
GameSpot (Dec 04, 2002)
Also, considering the game's streamlined interface, low learning curve, and unusual setting, if you're new to online RPGs--especially if you're a fan of console RPGs, with comparably bizarre characters and monsters--you'd do well to give Asheron's Call 2 a try. If all these things and the idea of a small, tightly knit player community appeal to you, Asheron's Call 2 may be just the game for you. But if you're looking for a bustling online world with plenty of other people and many different things to do, you may not find what you're looking for in Asheron's Call 2 for some time.
Despite all the cool tweaks and additions, the repetitive gameplay still nags at me. But Turbine is committed of creating interesting monthly episodes, and if they manage to both fix the problems and keep the game interesting, then AC2 will be a worthy successor.
RPGFan (Apr 23, 2003)
While far from perfect, Asheron’s Call 2 was not as bad as I feared it would be, though some major issues need to be dealt with. The lag needs to be managed. With such a small number of people on each server, there's no reason for the game to lag as often and as it does. Also, they need to merge servers to increase the average number of players per server so that the player-driven community can truly start to flourish. With 10 servers running at less than 500 on average (the highest populated server, “Frostfell” only boasts approximately 900 players), Asheron's call 2 is a very lonely world waiting for people to realize it's evolving.

Gamesdog (Dec 15, 2003)
From launch to now to whenever you read this review, there'll be something else for you to do (well, fight) in the Asheron's Call 2 universe. You certainly won't be bored, whether or not you're a hardcore RPG player. Definitely worth a look especially if you can find it at the lowered street price. Being cheaper at retail is fair enough for what will become a single-game ISP, you're getting massive value for money out of it. Do a search and check on technical progress and community opinions before finally shelling out, but we reckon you won't be disappointed.

Aside from a rocky start, AC2 stakes its claim on a significant portion of the MMORPG market. The game looks better than most in the genre that are currently released, even though we all know that looks aren’t everything. Is it fun? For the casual gamer, this is what you’ve wanted. For diehard players, this probably isn’t your best option, but it will probably provide a couple of months of entertainment. The bottom line is this is a good online game, and at the very least you should check out the fan sites to see what Dereth might have to offer you.

ActionTrip (Dec 09, 2002)
This game, whether you like this genre or not, is a very good game, with some vary noticeable flaws. Its promise of new content every month with a changeable world affected by the players is very attractive, but the game itself can be laden with boredom, substandard equipment and obnoxious PvP (in the wrong zones). If all of the developer's promises are fulfilled, it will put a new spin on the MMORPG world. If the updates are not what they are cracked up to be, this game will be just another run of the mill online RPG.
PC Games (Germany) (Jan 20, 2003)
GameSpy (Dec 22, 2002)
With more content on the way and an already large fan base, Asheron's Call 2 may yet blossom into a special game. But if you're looking for something new that's going to keep you up day and night, month after month, you'll want to wait on this one.
GameBanshee (Jan 14, 2003)
Aside from the awesome graphics I find the game to have a noticeable lack of core game content. It easily can become another experience treadmill game. If you are looking for a MMO that will keep you playing until the wee hours of the morning then this might not be the game to choose. If you are looking for a MMO to play casually that is fun and simple to learn then Asheron's Call II is a game you will enjoy.
FiringSquad (Dec 11, 2002)
But in the end, AC2 didn’t manage to grab us. Like a hot but completely insipid college girl, there’s plenty of reason to be attracted to it, but little actual feeling. It’s a solid and fun gaming experience, just not something that will have you reaching for the caffeine pills. In a MMORPG were you pay to play, and don’t get your money’s worth if you don’t play, this is a serious problem.
RPGamer (2002)
Asheron's Call 2 is a game that is innovative and addictive. Many will love it, but many others will be put off by the game's technical problems, crafting difficulty, and poorly designed travel system. Online games are constantly being updated, so these issues may be resolved in future patches. AC2 is a fairly good game now, but may be a great game later.
