It's one of many finishing touches to a game that started life as what sounded suspiciously like a fund-raising stopgap conceived on the back of an overdrawn chequebook and blurted out during a conference call. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is anything but that, however – it's one of the best games of 2010.

One minor quibble is that when running the game through Steam, you’ll be forced to exit the program in order to jump from multiplayer to single-player and vice-versa. It only takes a couple seconds, but it’s annoying. That said, the PC version comes prepackaged with the multiplayer Animus Project updates and The Da Vinci Disappearance single-player campaign. Of course, the biggest selling point for the PC version is the Nvidia 3D Vision and multiscreen support. Clamoring up to the Viewpoints at the top of the Borgia towers becomes a much more breathtaking experience when you’re viewing Rome across three screens.

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood isn’t as much a sequel as a completion to the second game, and while this is certainly the best game of the three so far, you probably don’t want to jump into the story without having played at least the second game first. Brotherhood polishes the presentation and fine-tunes the combat and gameplay to create a masterpiece of action and adventure with a rewarding storyline. The whole concept of the animus and reliving memories embedded in DNA creates so much potential. I can’t wait to explore other ancestral memories from the 1600’s all the way to the present. And until that next big adventure arrives, I’ll be perfecting my own assassin skills in some of the best online multiplayer currently available.

Thing is, while this is all well and good, we do have to wonder what took Ubisoft so long to port it over. Four months later, and the buzz surrounding the game has died down, with console owners instead waiting for the next instalment to continue the tale. The free DLC nearly makes up for it, but PC gamers will still feel a little let down. If you've still not got around to giving it a play, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is a masterpiece that deserves your time - and with all the added extras now firmly in place, there has never been a better time for PC gamers to delve into Ezio Auditore's world.

Although you can’t say that it’s an impressive evolution compared to Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood is without a doubt a more polished version of its predecessor, and the introduction of a captivating multiplayer has turned it into the best game of the series yet. And considering how it ends, I can’t wait to see that Assassin’s Creed III will have in store for us.

Fans sollten also auf jeden Fall zuschlagen.

PC Gamer (Mar 28, 2011)
Overshadowing even that, Brotherhood’s biggest improvement is that it requires only one-time activation, as opposed to AC2’s “always-online” DRM. The game itself isn’t notably superior (especially in terms of story), but all of its additions put it at least on par with the last, and it’s a hugely entertaining sequel.

Experiencing Ezio's rise from streetwise youth to devious assassin was one of Assassin's Creed II's finest pleasures. In Brotherhood, he gets plenty of chances to flash his disarming smirk, but his character arc isn't nearly as fascinating as it might have been. Nevertheless, this excellent period adventure has a magical allure that draws you in with its sheer beauty. Additionally, few games make it such a pleasure to simply move from place to place, whether you are galloping on horseback, soaring through the sky from rooftop to rooftop, or diving into a bale of hay from hundreds of feet above. Like Ezio himself, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood doesn't exhibit the growth you might have expected, but its charms are almost impossible to resist.

Game Over Online (Apr 05, 2011)
And so we come back to the original question, "Should I buy this game?" The answer is fairly mundane for Assassin's Creed veterans: If you liked the previous games, want to know how the story inches forward, and don't mind spending another 20 some hours doing all the same stuff you've done before, go buy it. I easily fit into that category so while it was easy to see the flaws, I still had a great time playing. If you're still a little burned out on Assassin-y gameplay, this isn't going to reinvigorate your desire to play and you should probably wait for a Steam sale six months from now. Brotherhood is truly "same as it ever was", but none the worse for it.

Mana Pool (Jun 07, 2012)
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood is ultimately an excellent continuation of the series. It isn’t a ground-breaking improvement, as Assassin’s Creed II was over the first in the series, but it is still an immensely satisfying game that can suck up hours of your time.

Built on the shoulders of Assassin's Creed II, Brotherhood is the most polished and robust execution of the Assassin's Creed formula yet.

IGN (Mar 17, 2011)
If you’re new to Assassin’s Creed, this is a solid entry, but picking up the threads of the convoluted story may be a challenge. If you’re an experienced assassin, on the other hand, expect to tread pretty similar ground to the last title.

AusGamers (Mar 23, 2011)
If you’re an Assassins Creed fan and have been holding out for the PC version, you won’t leave disappointed. While the default control system leaves something to be desired, the improved graphics, lower price and bundled DLC make this an easy purchase for those looking to finish the journey they began in AC2.

GamingBolt (Mar 31, 2011)
So there you have it, a fantastic adventure title robbed of its high production values and engaging gameplay by a series of coding errors; each more devious than the last. Naturally these bugs won’t affect everyone, but it’s still indicative of the effort (or lack thereof) that has gone into this port. The removal of annoying DRM schemes (at least ones that I know of) is certainly a step in the right direction, but the rest is unimpressive at best. If you have a 360 or PS3, make sure it is your weapon of choice when it comes to taming the beast that is Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. If you only have a gaming PC, make sure you wait until the game is patched and updated. This current incarnation fails to do the game justice in any way, shape or form.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun (Mar 21, 2011)
What a shame, and an indefensible one at that, that it’s taken so long to arrive on PC. Four months on from its console release, the buzz around it is all too quiet – so much so that I almost wonder why Ubisoft have bothered. I hope it sells well anyway, because it’s the best of the series so far and I’m enormously keen that we get to see future instalments reach PC. That said, those future instalments will presumably move to a new setting now. While I craved that come the end of AssCreed 2, now I feel the opposite – this Italy is a superb playground, and Ezio a fond companion. I’ll miss them both. First, though, there are at least forty-eight million side-missions and shopping quests to polish off. I shall be happy for some time yet.
