Description
Back To Earth 2 is a single player space shooter in the fixed screen genre. It is an enhanced version of Backspace Software's game Back To Earth, even using the same storyline.Earth has been at war with an alien race for a long time. Neither side can gain the upper hand. The aliens have developed a new kind of ship that can warp time which will tip the balance of power in their favour. The player takes the role of a pilot who has managed to steal this ship and is heading 'Back to Earth'.
The player's craft is armed with a minigun which never runs out of ammunition. There are three other weapons that the player can pick up along the way, the plasma gun, missiles, and a laser. Use of these weapons is limited not by time, as in some games, but by the amount of ammunition power-ups the player collects as they play. The player is able to switch between combinations of weapons as they play a level by pressing the number keys 1 - 4, this allows the more potent weapons to be saved for the end of level boss. There's also a concussion bomb power-up which, when collected, destroys all nearby objects and the 'Time Warp' effect which slows down enemy fire.
The game can be played via the keyboard, mouse or joystick. It has three modes of difficulty, in-game music and sound effects. It records the player's score during the game and this game also has a high score table which its predecessor lacked. The game also saves the player's progress automatically. There is a 'Continue Game' option on the main menu which allows the player to restart their game at any level.
