Ballance

Moby ID: 13647

Description official descriptions

Bringing Marble Madness to a whole new level, Ballance increases gameplay with many new items not seen in that earlier game.

Ballance is a marble/ball game up infinitely high where a fall would never end. You must navigate 12 levels filled with many puzzles you will need to figure out in order to complete the level. This must all be done before your time runs out. Thankfully, there are spots to increase your time throughout the levels.

As you progress through the levels, you will have the ability to change your ball between 3 different materials (wood, stone, and paper); all with different properties. For example, the stone ball is slower to get moving and harder to stop. It also will not get up the steeper ramps. But it is needed to move various things out of the way.

Maneuver the ball without letting it fall from the platforms and ramps. It may seem fairly easy at first, but as you progress through the levels, the difficulty increases. Can you get your highscore on the official website as a top 10 highscore for each level?

Addicting puzzle game

The Good
The variety in each level as the levels get more and more complex is a great way to keep a player interested in the game.

Each level is on raised platforms infinitely high in the air. This makes the view you have much different than in probably any other game. The graphics are excellent and really help the game to shine.

The three choices of balls (wood, rock, and paper) all have fairly realistic physics models that you will definitely notice when using each of them. The rock one is the heaviest and therefore is harder to stop or turn quickly, and it cannot climb ramps that are too steep. But it will push things out of the way really easily. The wood ball is lighter and more maneuverable, but can't push as many things. And the paper ball stops instantly and can be maneuvered very easily. It also can be blown around on air currents when there are fans on a level.

Scoring is also interesting. You can get through the levels without getting all the powerups. But some powerups give time bonuses which are added to your score at the end. So you need to decide if you want to spend the time going after a bonus and perhaps lose more time than you gain, or just going on to the end of the level.

The sound was also good and did not get annoying as it does in many games out there.

The Bad
The biggest problem I find in the game is that it's too short. With only 15 levels, you can complete the game in 2-3 hours if you wanted (and if you're good at solving the puzzles). Having more levels, or a level editor would greatly improve the replayability. And it would be fun to make levels for others on this game.

The Bottom Line
If you enjoyed Marble Madness and similar games, this game is for you. It takes games like that to the next level and gives you a great game, even if it's short. You can play through most levels in a short time, so it works as a break between doing other things without wasting too much of your time.
