Bastion has raised my expectations further than ever before for Indie developers and I'm anxious to see who else step up to the plate. It gave me a feeling of true satisfaction that I have long to feel from an Indie title and even goes so far as to be comparable to full $60 games.
GameZebo (Aug 19, 2011)
It’s a rare game that gets every element absolutely right. It’s also a rare game that truly engages me in its story. Bastion had me in the palm of its hand from the moment it started and I could not put it down. When I wasn’t playing it, I was thinking about playing it. The game raises questions that you’ll be thinking about and discussing with your friends for weeks on end. All this from a tiny team that poured all of themselves into these characters, this world and every element that comes together to form Bastion. Supergiant Games gave us what is not only one of the best games of this year, but one of the best I’ve played in a long time.
Mana Pool (Dec 02, 2011)
It’s fresh and original, and above all it’s unpretentious and subtle. You must put down all other games and play it immediately. Did I mention this is Supergiant Games first title? Here’s to their future.
Game Chronicles (Aug 18, 2011)
Bastion is one of the most original titles I’ve played in quite some time. From the charming graphics to the smooth vibes of the narrator perfectly blended with a magical soundtrack, and the 10-12 hours of action-packed exploration and combat, Bastion is like kicking back with your favorite interactive storybook. And with so many ways to customize the various parts of the game, as well as the clever difficulty vs. reward modifiers (idols) and the New Game Plus mode, you might find yourself playing Bastion for a long time to come.

With that said, Bastion is one of those games that you won’t be able to put down if you like this genre of game at all. The more the world unravels itself to you, the more you will want to play. Bastion is available on nearly all platforms, including all the major ones, so if this game sounds at all fun, pick it up and have a go – you won’t regret it.
RPGFan (Sep 16, 2011)
Although I truly believe that Bastion could have doubled its length in terms of gameplay, I'm glad that the story didn't risk imploding on itself. Don't let anyone tell you this is a Diablo clone – that would cheapen Bastion; it needs to be heard to be believed.
PC Gamer (Nov 22, 2011)
A charming hack-and-slash RPG, with an excellent soundtrack, great colouring, and a superb narration gimmick.
Sega Does (Jun 07, 2017)
Bastion‘s story keeps you interested, but even with Rucks’ constant narration, I didn’t feel much one way or the other for the characters or their desires. And that’s ok. As much as the game tries to draw you in with its warm narrator and comforting music (which was good, but not as life-changing as it’s purported to be), Bastion isn’t about the story or the soundtrack. The reason to go back into its world and start a New Game+ is the rewarding combat and the immersive atmosphere.

Thunderbolt Games (Sep 10, 2011)
It’s proof that good ideas aren’t always grand ideas, and it never lets its story get in between the player and the action. Instead, it weaves them together at the same time, making a simple story and a simple game feel like so much more.
Cheat Happens (Sep 04, 2011)
Lately game developers have been very interested in our need for nostalgia, but where Bastion differs is that it uses that nostalgia factor as simply a starting point, and takes its ideas in a million directions after. From its addicting hack and slash gameplay to the gorgeous visuals and cool narrator, Bastion is as unique as they come, and you're going to want to check it out - your gaming library deserves it.
MMGN (Aug 22, 2011)
Bastion provides an unforgettable experience that uses art and music to create a magical and wondrous experience. With deep and varied combat mechanics, and plenty of replay value Bastion is definitely one of the most enticing titles available this year, and would have to be in contention for game of the year. Supergiant and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have released a true gem in Bastion, a title that will continue to impress for quite some time.
IGN (Aug 22, 2011)
When I beat Bastion for the first time, I reloaded my save and played through for the second ending. When that was done, I started my new game plus. I'm not the repeat type of gamer, but Bastion's leveling, weapon upgrades, and difficulty tweaks are just too gosh-darn addictive. The story could've been better, but it doesn't matter. This game is amazing and you owe it to yourself to download it.
Ironhammers (Aug 30, 2011)
You don’t have much of a choice to not finish his story once you do stand up. The only way to fully create your own story, I suppose, is to stand up from your seat and leave the characters of Bastion in suspended animation. It’s a sign of the excellent writing and engaging gameplay that you want to explore each possible ending, no matter if any or all of them rub you the wrong way. While it certainly sticks to its story, it invites you to resist it, to read the text of the game in different and discursive ways. But, after all, isn’t this where good stories are made, in the faults and cracks that open into memory? “The past,” the narrator sighs at one point, “the only good thing to come out of the past is history.”
3D Juegos (Aug 23, 2011)

Even if Bastion is short (just a few hours, depending on how many challenges you’re keen on passing with a gold medal rating) it’s one of the few games in which the New Game+ (rewinding the whole adventure but keeping the endgame resources) was just as much fun as the first playthrough. The content might be identical, but you’ve probably missed out on a few platforms the first time around, so you’ll have the opportunity of discovering them and testing out your untapped weapons as well.

GameSpot (Sep 01, 2011)
The world of Bastion is brought to life with some truly exceptional hand-painted environments. Every stylish bit of scenery is filled with tiny touches that add to the game's fairytale vibe. While the world may be filled with color, its muted tones help underscore a somber tale that grows darker and darker as you progress. It's a wonderfully crafted adventure that presents a fun and focused challenge you can customize in all sorts of ways. Once you finish, a new game-plus feature opens up that lets you carry over all your weapons and experience from the previous game. The sweet-talking turrets from Portal even make an appearance your second time through as a secret technique--much to the narrator’s bewilderment. Even though it may be the end of the world in Bastion, it's still an amazingly good time.
ActionTrip (Jan 24, 2012)
In spite of some shortcomings, Bastion entertained me from start to finish. It's a highly polished, bug-free bundle of fun and at $15, it's a steal. Kudos to Supergiant Games.
PC Games (Germany) (Aug, 2011)

GameSpy (Aug 16, 2011)
I suppose it's a good gripe to have, but I want more: Bastion is a game you can easily polish off in a day or two, without much in the way of side activities to keep you busy. Given that it's a small indie game -- not some sprawling 40-hour RPG -- I can't rightly complain too much. It's fun while it lasts, and I can't wait to see what other cool narrative ideas Supergiant Games comes up with for future games.

Bastion has a great story to tell, and it tells it in a way only a videogame can. Affecting and thought provoking, and also a damn well executed action RPG. Bastion is a standout first effort from Supergiant Games, and we look forward to hearing about their future plans.

Save Or Quit (Aug 22, 2011)
All in all the game with simple combat and with level design that are different from the level to level (read level design paragraph for more) and level design reminds me on Final Fantasy Tactics A2 when you were going to the battle. I recomend this game to anyone who want relax with fun, colorful, imagined world.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun (Aug 17, 2011)
As I said, the core of the game, what you actually do, isn’t the most fresh or all-conquering of things. (It even features that most tiresome of action tropes, the enemy that can only be attacked from behind – oh please.) If you play for mechanics there’s a lot on offer here, but you’ll be confused why the game is being celebrated so loudly. But for atmosphere, grace, wit and heart, it’s a remarkable achievement. I’m nowhere near finished – the game appears to be enormous. But as I write this, one of the game’s pieces of music looping endlessly in the background, I know I’m going straight back.
