Game Chronicles (Nov 18, 2008)
Call of Duty World at War is an amazingly fun and addictive game all around. You couldn’t ask for a better FPS value. Whether you are playing solo, competitively, cooperatively, or are just kicking back killing Nazi Zombies you are sure to have a world of a good time until next year’s Call of Duty. Even if you are really disappointed that this isn’t Modern Warfare you should still pickup this game because you won’t find a better World War II game out there.
Cheat Code Central (Nov, 2008)
Treyarch came back this year with an excellent addition to the franchise. Many gamers may look at this game with an "I've been there, done that" attitude. I am here to tell you that this is the best WWII effort so far, as well as the best game in the franchise.
Game Freaks 365 (Nov, 2008)
Call of Duty: World at War picks up where Call of Duty 4 left off. While there are basic modifications that have to do with a change in time period, World at War uses the same engine as Call of Duty 4, making gameplay nearly identical. Not that that is a bad thing. With what could be described as the most well rounded multi-player experience ever, Call of Duty: World at War inherits a tested game engine and a lot of goodwill from gamers. In a year from now, when the next Call of Duty will no doubt get released, I hope to expect something from Infinity Ward that is different from the current formula. I have every reason to believe that they will live up to this. Until then, World at War continues the same formula that has been working and keeping gamers up for long nights of gameplay since the release of Call of Duty 4. For that reason alone Call of Duty: World at War stands as the best World War II shooter to date.
IGN (Nov 11, 2008)
It's easy to be jaded about World War II shooters, but Treyarch makes a convincing argument to stay excited with World at War. The game is packed with a deep amount of gameplay to appeal to every type of player, from those who want to experience a gritty single-player campaign to those who like to play with their friends to those who just like to play multiplayer. This is a solid, confident shooter with plenty to offer the casual and hardcore alike.
World at War is a great game. Treyarch doesn’t even try to emerge from the shadow cast over their latest by last year’s Modern Warfare. They apply themselves instead in a different direction, responding to fan complaints about the previous game by adding in cooperative elements while serving up a high-concept alternative to 2007’s think piece. With the solid foundation of a well-constructed game engine at its core, Call of Duty: World at War is proof-positive that excellence can spring from derivation just as easily as it does from innovation.
GamingTrend (Nov, 2008)
It could not have been easy to follow on the heels of CoD4’s success, but Treyarch really stepped up to the plate this time around. Delivering a game that will please fans of the WWII setting without alienating fans of CoD4, they have created a product that deserves to be judged on its own merits. While not an entirely new experience, World at War is a highly polished iteration of all that has come before and well worth your gaming dollar.
UOL Jogos (Nov 21, 2008)
GamesRadar (Nov 13, 2008)
All in all World at War delivers. It isn’t a revolution in Call of Duty gaming, but neither is it a step backwards, like some have claimed. Right now, it’s the best WWII shooter we’ve played, largely because it’s got a solid (if unoriginal) single player, some spectacular multiplayer, and oh yeah: because it’s brutal as hell.
GameSpy (Nov 11, 2008)
It would be easy to dismiss World at War as a reskinned version of CoD4, more of a giant expansion pack than a true sequel. It's certainly not the bar-raiser that Modern Warfare was, especially in the solo campaigns. But with the new co-op play and the rest of the multiplayer content, World of War turns out to be an extremely entertaining and faithful addition to the Call of Duty family.
GamePro (US) (Nov 12, 2008)
To call it Call of Duty 4 with a World War II skin is insulting to Treyarch because World at War is so much more than that. It's a great follow up to Modern Warfare and proves that World War II is still a viscerally charged conflict to live through. The single-player campaign is a tad short and it isn't as polished as Modern Warfare's but the action is intense, there are plenty of thrills and the multiplayer looks like it will be just as awesome. I'm especially looking forward to the Nazi Zombies mode.
Game Arena (Nov 27, 2008)
Overall Call of Duty World at War is a great game with some great ideas, but it feels too familiar to be a real must have title. If World War II FPS are your bag you'll have a tough time finding a better game - if you're neither here nor there on the genre give the demo a go first.
Gameplanet (Nov 17, 2008)
If Call of Duty 4 is anything to go by (and we’d say it is) people will be playing Call of Duty: World at War for some years to come, and it is definitely worth the investment.
90 (Nov 14, 2008)
The weight of expectation on Treyarch's shoulders must have been immense. Having seen CoD4 release to near unanimous praise and incredible sales, there must have been a few worried people inside the studio. The WWII shooter suddenly became incredibly dated, yet Treyarch was a year into development. Whether the sheer number of doubters spurred the team on or the extra development time just allowed them to make the game they were truly capable of doesn't matter. What matters is that Call of Duty World at War is a stunning game that doesn't miss a beat from start to finish and includes one of the most feature packed multiplayer components of any game released this year.
FiringSquad (Dec 17, 2008)
It is important to note that none of this makes World at War a bad game, it just makes it an uncreative game. Let’s face it, if you are going to copy someone’s work, you could certainly do a lot worse than Infinity Ward. Perhaps Infinity Ward holds a tight leash on Treyarch, preventing them from really venturing out in the series or maybe Treyarch just knows how to make a really bankable game. Either way, we’ve seen far worse games than Call of Duty: World at War, but we’ve also seen quite a few that were better.
3D Juegos (Nov 12, 2008)

World at War mógłby też być trochę dłuższy i... tańszy.

IGN UK (Nov 17, 2008)
Although World at War too often feels like a refit, it’s a refit of one of the greatest games of the current generation - and one that’s, by and large, been confidently handled by Treyarch. The WWII setting compounds the wearying feeling of over-familiarity, but the solid engine that powers the game ensures that it’s often the most spectacular take on the conflict yet, and one that’s certainly the most exhilarating. Whether multiplayer offers enough to wrest people away from Modern Warfare boils down to a matter of taste, but anyone who’s tempted to return to the Second World War will be met with a solid package – but one that’s short on surprises.
GameStar (Germany) (Nov, 2008)

GameZone (Nov 11, 2008)
Not a huge departure in terms of how the game plays out. There is a rhythm to the levels, each with a hump that must be crested to begin the downhill run to the next level in the story arc. Overall the game feels a bit short but is not only a very tasty bit of eye candy, and a treat for the ears as well, but a briskly paced action-adventure that should please fans of WWII first-person shooters.
GameSpot (Nov 12, 2008)
By staying largely true to the formula that made Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare so successful, Call of Duty: World at War has ensured a proven level of technical quality, particularly in the multiplayer arena. On the other hand, one of Modern Warfare's strengths was its fresh approach, and by embracing a familiar setting and familiar mechanics, World at War achieves greatness but falls short of excellence. This is only a bad thing if you are expecting this game to top its benchmark predecessor. If, however, you are hoping for an exciting campaign, fun cooperative play, and engaging multiplayer action, then you'll find a lot to be happy about in World at War.
Gamer 2.0 (Nov 19, 2008)
If you can’t tell by now, the game is worth picking up. Treyarch has made vast improvements from their COD 3 work and delivered a solid product. There are a few flaws, but the game keeps up the intensity and fast-paced feel that Infinity Ward set up last year. And for a World War II game, it doesn’t feel the least bit outdated.
83 (Nov 13, 2008)
World at War vil næppe omvende tvivlere, som Modern Warfare i et vist omfang gjorde det, men vil bestemt tilfredsstille fans. Imponerende både afbalanceret og struktureret.
80 PC Gaming (Jan 18, 2009)
Call of Duty World at War is a mixed game. The single-player didn’t really impress me, but was still enjoyable. Multiplayer is very similar to Modern Warfare, but with new additions, and can be very entertaining. As someone who’s played Day of Defeat (and the Source version) for a countless number of hours, I’d say it’s a great step up in World War II multiplayer. World at War almost reminds me of a mix between DoD and Red Orchestra. Treyarch certainly didn’t botch this title, though I wonder how it would be different if Infinity Ward was at the reigns. Don’t buy this game for the single-player, buy it for the multiplayer.
Game Vortex (Dec, 2008)
Call of Duty: World at War may have its issues, but it is still a very fun single player title and entertaining on a Local Area Network or taking it online in matches that allow up to 32 players (according to the box; although I did see up to 44-player matches in the online lobbies - possibly a bug?). The Co-op modes are also a blast, but none more than barricading yourself into a stronghold while being attacked by wave after wave of zombie soldiers. It's true that I wish the developers had spent more time fixing bugs and improving the framerate issues than adding this extra bonus mode of play, but I have to admit that it is a blast to play. Most fans of Modern Combat likely have a similarly-positive reaction to playing Call of Duty: World at War.
PC Games (Germany) (Nov 26, 2008)
Vielleicht schreckt mich deshalb World at War so ab: Alles, was ich erlebe, kenne ich so schon von früher.
Total PC Gaming (Nov 14, 2008)
We never thought we’d hear ourselves say this, but the game is simply too hard in places. Where other COD games make up for the enemy’s superior numbers with superior cackhandedness when it comes to their aim, the AI of World At War are all, bar none, a crack shot. Often this means that if you stick your head up for even half a second, you’ll have it shot off. In a game with no cover system per se, it's simply unbearable. And that’s providing you even have half a second before the half-dozen grenades go off at your feet. World At War is accomplished and flawed in equal measure. A good game. A brave game. But one that could do with some fine-tuning in the actual gameplay department.
Good Game (Nov 17, 2008)
The co op, and multiplayer online is going to be fantastic for fans of World War 2 deathmatch Jung with this engine behind it. I love the zombie mode unlock when you beat the game, but I started to get sick of ww2 again by the last mission. I’m giving 7.5 .
HardGamers (Dec 11, 2008)
1UP (Nov 21, 2008)
World at War may not represent the best of Call of Duty, but it's far from the worst. The single-player's a solid step forward from Call of Duty 3, and the cooperative multiplayer should give the game some legs...but I just wish competitive multiplayer had grabbed me the way Modern Warfare's did. I think anyone skeptical about whether Treyarch could improve upon their last iteration will be pleasantly surprised; World at War brings all the ugliness of humanity in wartime to the forefront, and it manages to find refreshing -- and satisfying -- new stories to tell.
At the end of the day, what Treyarch did is take a perfectly blend recipe, add a little salt and pepper and release it as a full game. Call of Duty: World at War feels like it’s nothing more than a mod to the acclaimed COD4 title. For now, we can’t help but, agree that the flamethrower is the game’s only poster child.
CanardPC (Nov 15, 2008)
Thunderbolt Games (Dec 07, 2008)
World at War is just another pretty good game. Where it falls between good and great will depend on you. If you’re still hankering for WWII shooters, you’ll probably get more out of it than I did. If you’re looking for Call of Duty 4 - Part II, you’ll probably want to skip this. Me, I liked it, but until I finished this game, I was happy to eat up another WWII FPS. The game certainly isn’t a must-buy, but if you do, you’re likely to enjoy what you get.
70 (Nov 13, 2008)
Computer Bild Spiele (Nov 30, 2008)
Good Game (Nov 17, 2008)
Despite the usual thinking of red barrels making good cover, it’s a solid ww2 game, with very stylish between-mission cutsenes that use actual footage from the war. It’s hard to get excited about World War 2 games nowadays, but World at War raises an eyebrow, 6.5 from me.
Absolute Games ( (Nov 14, 2008)
Тем, кто знаком с предыдущими Call of Duty, вообразить World at War не составит труда.
