With Clifford Phonics, Scholastic has created a very engaging way for young readers to learn how to read. In addition to original and effective activities, the software pays attention to the small details that make learning to read easy, including providing hints and having the characters read aloud any word over which a youngster scrolls. Take your children to this carnival and they will come home reading.
Edutaining Kids (Oct, 2003)
This is one of our favorite edutainment software games of the year. Why? It’s fun and only gently challenging for emergent readers. It’s ideal for children just beginning to find meaning in short small words, and never over-stimulates or frustrates with inappropriate material for the intended age group.
Just Adventure (Oct 21, 2003)
This game is designed from the same people who bring reading books to your child’s home and school, and feature one of the largest story characters to life. Our friend Clifford is up to a new adventure and needs you to help him at the carnival. This game is designed to focus on building phonics skills that help a child combine a series of phoneme sounds to make words. Being an elementary teacher I can attest to the need for students to develop both sound and word recognition and the people at Scholastic have done a great job.
Review Corner (Nov, 2003)
Beginning readers will find nothing in this phonics program that is intimidating or overwhelming. A gentle pace and solid free-play activities, as well as a likable theme, are this program's strengths. Although appropriate for any emergent reader, this game is especially useful for children who are reluctant to go further simply because it is pressure-free and encouraging.
SuperKids (2003)
All children learn differently, and some early readers benefit from the phonics approach more than others. This is best for the average kindergartner or beginning first grader who is learning to read with phonics. It is intended for home use. You can expect that this game will keep your budding reader busy for that crucial 30 minutes before dinner.
Impulse Gamer (Aug, 2006)
In conclusion, Clifford the Big Red Dog Phonics is an extremely affordable program, easy to install and extremely easy to master that I would recommend to all parents who wish to have a positive stake in their child's education. Highly Recommended!
